Performance (10-30 minutes)

Invite the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington to your school to do what they do best – perform! At your request, an ensemble of GMCW singers will perform a small set of songs (2-4) for students at an event or assembly. Schools must give at least two month’s notice to allow for scheduling and preparation.

Sing-A-Long (30-60 minutes)

Are your students outgoing, musical, and/or obsessed with performing? Invite ambassadors to provide a sing-a-long with your students, filled with favorite showtune, musical, and pop songs. In addition to GMCW music, students may also bring music to play themselves or for ambassadors to sight-read.

Choral Dancing 101 (60-90 minutes)

Allow some of GMCW’s finest dancers and choreographers to teach your students dancing moves and choreography. This program is inclusive of all abilities, and ambassadors can accommodate a variety of skill and mobility levels. The primary goal for this program is to get up, move around, and enjoy being active!

Vocal Technique 101 (60-90 minutes)

GMCW has members with gifts and talents in vocal technique teaching and facilitation. Allow ambassadors to provide a vocal technique workshop for your students. This program is inclusive of all levels of vocal ability. If you love to sing, we welcome your participation!

Concert Music Selection (60-90 minutes)

How do you most effectively select music for a choral concert? What tricks are there for creating a balanced and consistently compelling performance? Are there particular choral pieces with LGBTQ themes? Invite ambassadors familiar with choral music selection to assist school choral personnel in developing and selecting the ideal set list.

Discussion Groups (60-90 minutes)

Are your students negotiating difficult subject matters that they would like to discuss within a group? ambassadors can facilitate discussion groups for students to talk about issues relevant to their lives in a safe and affirming place. Discussions can include a variety of topics, including but not limited to relationships with peers and family, gender and sexuality identity, coming out, self esteem, faith and LGBTQ people, and finding LGBTQ community. ambassadors can facilitate a conversation with school faculty to understand better the needs and experiences of their LGBTQ students.

Arts Management and Not-For-Profit Career Exploration (30-60 minutes)

Invite GMCW Staff and Chorus ambassadors to discuss the wonderful professional opportunities available in arts management and not-for-profit work, including LGBT advocacy and awareness. GMCW has a number of members working in creative arts fields, with responsibilities ranging from creative directing to non-profit fundraising. This program is especially exciting for students entering college and/ or considering a future career in the arts.
