WHAT IS GATHER ’ROUND HOMESCHOOL?
We are not your typical homeschool company—we are a community, a family of people who are seeking something more in our homeschools. Here at Gather ’Round, you won’t find a group of people who ascribe to a club or learning style or model; instead, you will find people who are actively pursuing a Spirit-led education for their children. We value connection over content, conversations over textbooks, rabbit trails over learning outcomes, and wonder over worksheets. On a daily basis, we wrestle against our need to perform or look good to our peers and choose instead life and life abundantly! We choose joy, peace, and relationships instead of succumbing to the ever-increasing pressure of “doing enough.” Perhaps you are sitting there thinking, “This is me!” Or maybe you aren’t quite here yet but something inside of you is leaping at the thought of a homeschool journey with these values as your compass. Maybe you need not so much a curriculum but a family who can grab hold of your hand and give you permission to let go of those expectations and burdens that aren’t yours to carry. I am not here to tell you that my curriculum is the best or that it is even the right choice for you and your family, but I am here to tell you that no matter what you choose or what direction you go—you don’t have to do this alone. God is so intensely interested in what your homeschool will look like this year. He has all sorts of visions and plans for you and your kids and is holding out His hand with an invitation. Take off that burden of getting it right and instead ask Him what He has for your family.

This curriculum is a new thing. It is unlike anything else you will find out there. It includes everything you need, it is open and go, it is gentle and yet rich, it is a tool for those who are wanting something different than just school at home. Can I give away/sell books I printed but didn’t use? You cannot. Only books printed by us with our official “Printed by Gather ’Round” stamp can be shared or sold.
What are the years that people talk about?
As we are a new company, we came out with a plan to release four years worth of curriculum that would teach and reteach important mastery skills such as spelling, vocabulary, writing mechanics, and more. The years just tell you when the units were released and helped people keep track of what new ones they could anticipate. As we are nearing the end of our release schedule, we are removing talk of “years” and starting to move toward just bundles and build-your-own bundles.

Letters + Numbers is a gentle, customizable program toward reading readiness. While most programs teach a letter per week, in Letters + Numbers we have two rounds of the alphabet. You in turn can place your child in the first round or second round depending on their development.
Ready to Read is a Kindergarten–Grade 1 program that includes all subjects. It is for students who are ready to read. They should know letters and sounds, numbers and meanings, and basic shapes before starting. Similar to Letters + Numbers, it is customizable. The first two books are for beginning readers and focus on three-letter words, while the latter

Book 2 begins to bridge into the next level of reading.
Math begins to teach the concepts of place value, money, time, etc. This is designed to be a big picture, conceptual introduction; books three and four continue to develop these skills and understanding.

Students are focusing on four-to-six-letter words and phonics rules such as: silent e, y word endings that make the long /i/ and /e/ sounds, ay word endings that make the long /a/ sound, etc. It also focuses on more than and less than, money, time, days of the week, place value, sequencing, and more! This would be appropriate for advanced Kindergarten or First Grade, depending on the child’s development and the goals of the family.

Students are focusing on four-letter words, compound words, and how vowels can combine to make digraphs (one sound). These are called CVVC words (consonant, vowel, vowel, consonant)—such as bear— and would be appropriate for advanced Kindergarten or Grade 1, depending on the child’s development and the goals of the family. Math topics covered include tally marks, skip counting, place value, currency, and story problems.
I just wanted to share how much I love the Letters & Numbers and Ready to Read programs. My Pre-K guy (5) is getting ready to start Book 4 of Ready to Read. I wanted to pause between books 3 & 4 just to give him some practice and confidence before adding more phonetic rules, and I’m blown away by how much he’s able to read! The simple books are not a problem at all and the bigger, more complex sentence books he is doing 95% on his own. Things really clicked for him in book 3 of R2R. If you’re on the fence, we really love the programs and all the animal facts and math he gets to do as well. – JEANNINE

Each of our full units incorporates all of your core subjects subjects (but math) for all levels from Early Reader through High School. There are 20 individual lessons, designed to be done 4 days a week for 5 weeks or 5 days a week for 4 weeks. The lessons include Bible, writing, vocabulary, geography, social studies, history, art, and science.

SEATWORK
Some of the feedback we received in our first year was that people wanted more writing mechanics. We started adding it in but realized that language arts was starting to take over our books and leaving less room for the other core subjects. So we came up with the concept of our Seatwork Journals. These are writing mechanics and have two daily pages which include spelling, vocabulary, copywork, and grammar. The spelling words are level-appropriate and double as phonics reinforcement. Our Seatwork Journals are available in cursive or manuscript. Some of our units have five weekly seatwork pages in the front. These have the spelling words in them and are designed to photocopy and then copy into a journal, but many prefer to have a separate book with various activities all laid out for them.

Unsolved Mysteries was our family’s favorite unit of this year. All 3 kids (middle + high school levels) looked forward to the daily Revelation Bible Study and detective work. We were able to have great discussions and friendly debates over many world mysteries that have no answers.
My kids are loving the Vikings unit! After Lesson 1 they were dressing up as Vikings. We made a Viking ship and little shields and swords for them to play with also, which has been a big hit!

This Report Writing Track will walk students through 20 lessons on how to write an informational report with daily instruction and examples. It is not themed and can be used alongside any of our units for additional support or foundational teaching. There are two levels to choose from within the lessons. Level 1 is appropriate for more reluctant writers, and Level 2 is more appropriate for intermediate writers. Each lesson has a variety of activities like teaching, examples, questions, and writing prompts to help walk your student through the steps of writing a good report. By the end of this track, students should have a report they are proud of and will also be assessing their own work by filling in a rubric to see how they did.

Paragraph
WritIng
This Paragraph Writing Track is for students that need more foundational practice and reinforcement. It will walk students through day-by-day teaching about paragraphs, how they are structured, why they are structured that way, different types of paragraphs, citing your sources, and more! By the end of the track, students will be equipped to write their own expository paragraph and help improve the quality of their writing whether they are writing a story or an essay!
*The paragraph writing track is included as your writing project for chemistry. Only get it separate if you want to do it with another unit.
CALENDAR, PLANNERS + JOURNALS
This undated calendar can be used at any time, simply fill in the dates for the month and you’re good to go! Designed to be hung on the bottom of the page, it has a memory/reflections page (kind of scrapbook style) on the top and the monthly calendar on the bottom. Each daily calendar box has eight lines in it that you can use for different events or even set up a color coding key (included) where each family member has a different color. There is space for to-dos (which was designed to be used for chores, though you can use it for people or even different areas of your life like home repairs, cleaning, shopping, etc.) Finally, there is a Bible verse for each month and a place for notes that can be used for anything.
Every part of this planner was designed to be flexible and open ended with weekly pages that include scripture and a place to plan your meals. There are monthly trackers you can use to track the time you spend outside, habits you want to make or break, or your hours spent doing school.
Not only is this planner AMAZING in and of itself, but the paper, the print, the binding... it’s all beyond what I imagined. I literally sat and smelled it.

More Than Words Level 1 is designed for kids in early elementary and Level 2 is designed for kids in upper elementary.
