HAVE a new definition of frustration. You are on the Cote d’Azur. You have the keys to a new Porsche 911 Speedster, a car conceived specifically to be driven with the roof down. Some of the world’s best driving roads are minutes away. But it’s raining so hard it’s as if the Mediterranean Sea has just stood up and walked ashore. Cast-iron manhole covers have been flipped like coins by the pressure in the overwhelmed drains, and fridgesized boulders have been washed down the hillsides and now just sit in the road, waiting for you around a blind bend. I’ll be quite honest with you: I haven’t tested the Speedster with the roof down. It wasn’t a lack of professionalism; I just didn’t want to utterly ruin its extraordinary cabin. But I’m pleased to report that its bespoke soft-top has passed the toughest test it’s likely to face. And given that only 356 Speedsters will be made, you’re probably less concerned about its wind-in-the-hair qualities than how Porsche justifies charging over $519,800 for it, when a Turbo S cabriolet costing around

an accessible, on demand connection to the product and service helping to keep the lead hot and transition a digital consumer into a real life relationship that can be built upon. Digital is a fun and exciting way to develop new customers and connect with current and past ones.

15 percent less has 90kW/280Nm more, all-wheel drive and an automated roof. The production run of 356 is a nod to the original Speedster (see sidebar p51). The colour – Pure Blue – will only be offered on this model, although you can have it in white too. There’s new, black exterior trim and the black 19in Fuchs alloys and rear apron from last year’s limited edition 2.7 RS-inspired Sport Classic. Naturally, it gets the doublebubble rear canopy and a 60mm-lower windscreen. Bridging them requires a manual roof, which Porsche says can be erected solo in two minutes. As we found out, it’s the real deal; don’t confuse it with the glorified tent supplied with the Boxster Spyder. Inside, you get pretty much every option from both the standard and Porsche Exclusive bespoke division brochures. Porsche knows buyers of its limited-edition cars tick every box anyway, so it has saved them the trouble. So in addition to navigation and phone and Bose and voice and the Sport Chrono pack and almost everything else as standard,
