GEDU 650 Advanced Educational Computing (3 credits online) Electives (6 credits) Gannon University Elective Cohort: Gannon University Elective Cohort offers elective courses online and in your area that can fulfill the M.Ed. elective requirements. These courses will be offered at a significantly reduced cost from the tuition for the core courses. As always, these courses will be based on the “teacher friendly” model that Gannon University has perfected. The times and locations will reflect the schedule of educators and will not be offered at the same time as M.Ed. cohort courses. The courses will be taught utilizing the Gannon University practitioner model that emphasizes theory allied to practical application. Cohort students will have first enrollment priority for these courses but teachers requiring Act 48 credits will also be invited to enroll. These courses will stress the needs of Pennsylvania’s educational community and be linked to school district initiatives. For further information go to www.gannon.edu/Act 48. Pathways: Gannon University will continue to offer its Pathway Programs. Pathway credits can fulfill the six credit elective requirement and also be included as the first two courses for an advanced certification as a Reading Specialist, ESL Program Specialist, or Principal. Gannon University Courses: Students may continue to use graduate courses offered through Gannon University as M.Ed. electives. Transfers: With approval of the program director, graduate students may transfer six graduate credits from other accredited universities to fulfill the elective requirement. Online: The six elective credits may be traditional, online or blended courses.

Master of Education: Curriculum and Instruction/National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification

Gannon University hosts one of four Pennsylvania Centers for Teaching Excellence, each of which supports teachers and counselors who are pursuing National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. Gannon University’s M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction is aligned with the National Board Professional Teacher Certification Standards. Gannon is one of four Centers of Teaching Excellence in Pennsylvania that supports teachers who are preparing for National Board Certification.The core courses in the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction provide a strong foundation for the pedagogical, curricular, analytical and reflective skills needed for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Pathway provides support and guided learning for National Board candidates in preparing their portfolio entries, and studying for their certificate area examinations. Students who wish to pursue National Board Certification as part of the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction must talk to the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence as part of the admission and advising process so that they can take the proper course sequence and meet all program requirements. Students must be in at least the spring of their third year of full time teaching before they take the first NBPTS Pathway course. Teachers are eligible for formal application and admission to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards after completing their third year of teaching. All requirements of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification, including successful submission of the portfolio and passing the certificate area examinations, must be met in order to attain National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. Successful completion of the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction NBPTS Pathway does not guarantee National Board Certification.

A completed application for admission including three letters of recommendation Final, official transcripts showing completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a GPA of at least 3.0 Teacher Certification Teachers must be in their third year of teaching experience before they enroll in the NBPTS program Evidence by previous academic record that the applicant has the general ability and preparation necessary to pursue graduate study successfully.

Teachers pursuing the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at Gannon University may simultaneously prepare for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Certification.

This program requires the student to take 25 credits of core courses and six credits which focus around preparation for National Board Certification.
