GAMZE ALPAN Landscape Architect gamzealpn@gmail.com +31 625274743 Amsterdam / Netherlands

I am a highly motivated and hard-working landscape architect who enjoys seeing inspirations become meaningful and commercially feasible designs. I have nine years of experience working in mainly residential area landscapes but I have also worked on numerous commercial and public spaces. I worked on design stages vary from concept development until technical detail and preparation of construction drawings. I have been living in the Netherlands for the last 1.5 years. I have focused on non-profit and personal projects like helping elder Turkish people to adapt to Dutch culture and join society. I am passionate about sustainable residential landscapes and aiming to continue improving my knowledge. On the other hand, I am always open to new challenges.

Mardin is at the south-east of Turkey in the middle of Firat and Dicle rivers which form Mesopotamia. As it is located in one of the oldest civilization points in the world, Mardin has a deep history. To preserve the historic heritage many regulations have been enforced in city planning. Kiziltepe is chosen as one of the expansion points for Mardin to grow. Kiziltepe lies in the south of Mardin close to the Turkish border with Syria. It is also a historically important location but after World War 1 and the Turkish Independence War, it was mostly in ruins.

FUNCTION DIAGRAM

Before designing the urban park for Kiziltepe, we selected six different criteria. Removing obstacles, to create uninterrupted flow for everyone. The park should also be attractive to people with disabilities. Multi-functionality, to create an environment that enables people to do various activities like sports and art. Coziness, to relax people and help them enjoy life. Cultural, which embraces the historic heritage and helps people grow. Biological, to add natural beauty and to help natural habitat

To realize our goals and match our criteria, we have implemented diverse solutions. These solutions are decided based on the municipalities needs and our architectural taste with respect to our criteria. We designed a common urban furniture inventory to match with our concept and used them wherever necessary.

“Mardin Stone the Stone of Civilizations Civilizations and their environments shape each other. The environment forces civilization to get some habits and civilization changes the environment based on its needs. Mardin stone is a perfect example of this intertwined relationship.

The Mardin Stone is a multipurpose stone that can be used in buildings, flooring and decoration. When it is first mined, it is soft and easily scratchable. That makes it perfect for decorative purposes. After it is subjected to sunlight and air, it becomes harder and available for flooring and building. Historic houses made with The Mardin Stone are important tourist attractions. Also, it is an important income source and export product for locals.,

BIOLOGICAL POND Biological Pond creates the main axis of the park. It lies linearly from end to end. It creates a natural habitat for birds. With the help of fountain, water sound occurs and creates a beautiful and relaxing landscape. A restaurant is placed next to the pond for enjoyable meals. Bridges over it connect two sides of the pond, creating both beautiful and functional walking paths.

Is it possible to expand Istanbul without killing all the green?

Even though Istanbul is one of the most iconic cities in the world, it has big problems in terms of growth and the environment. The population of 17 million and growing every day pushes the boundaries of the city, killing forests and natural reserves on its way. Traffic chaos is everywhere. Tall buildings and narrow streets amplify already loud noises. In addition to the physical conditions, working culture is also intense. Being the most important financial and industrial centre of Turkey, Istanbul embraces the “work hard, play hard, party hard” culture. Like the air in a pressure cooker, the habitants of Istanbul constantly try to escape from the city centre. Ev’re Project was born out of this necessity. We aim to create a safe, enjoyable and calm environment for families, their children and also young professionals. We embraced “the need for nature” and “the need for the city” and opportunity tried to create a long term investment opportunity.

Urban Suburban Green area Work spaces Sancaktepe, the project site, is a suburban district of Istanbul. This area getting higher spatial value due to its connection to the airport, transportation opportunities by TEM, one of the most important highways of Istanbul, and Kartal connection.

NATURE AND BUILDING INTERACTION

A meditation pool is designed hidden from the direct sight of the buildings. Its main purpose is to be a place where habitants can retreat and be alone and meditate easily. It is also a perfect spot for morning yoga activities or pilates group courses. We positioned it to be far away from the crowd. Surrounded by trees and away from the general walking routes and crowds makes it a perfect hidden spot in the project.

A natural pond with small waterfalls is designed to create a natural sound of sound. Constantly flowing water, stones and the plantation close to the pond also creates a suitable environment for birds. Combination of water and bird sounds both calms its neighbor buildings and would be a perfect attraction point for kids.

Green. The color emerging from the mixture of yellow and blue, seen in the majority of plant leaves. “Let the sky be blue, branch green, field yellow; let there be land of birds and flowers.” – C. S. Tarancı

A single color, could it be the definition of a place where the beauty of life is lived to the fullest?

Designing a roof terrace that makes you feel top of the world

This project combines residential spaces with office spaces in one of the most valuable and accessible areas of the Anatolian side of Istanbul. Both property value and office - residential area combination lead us to a unique value proposition and unique needs. During day time, the project should be able to address the needs of mostly white-collar workers, in the weekend and after work hours it should make life easier for families of the residents. Also, the project should occupy minimum space because the land is highly valuable.

ANALYSIS

SITE LOCATION

This building is located near FSM bridge, next to E-5 freeway and Kozyatağı junction on Ataturk Boulevard. This location’s proximity to the two freeways and the metro station provides easy access to many destinations in Istanbul. At the same time, the high visibility of the building is an important landmark when entering KADIKOY from the freeways and FSM bridge.

PROPOSAL

Maximizing the value was the most important aspect of the project. Luxury does not have any limits but keeping it meaningful and creating the biggest impact is crucial for any commercial projects. Our team kept the focus on the most important features that our personas need. Our target segments value healthy and social living standards. To achieve that we decided to include a gym, swimming pool and socializing area. Also to maximize the “Wow effect, we planned a sunbathing area with the decorative surrounding.

Open spaces are designed with natural habitat integrated with landscaping in the center of the courtyard for commercial areas and terraces. Indoor and outdoor facilities are available for social activities on the ground floor. Garden, fitness center and spa areas with an open swimming pool that can be closed during the winter and a pool bar are amenities that are available to all residents to socialize. The decorative pool area is located directly in front of the gym. It is designed to create an incredible view for people doing sports and also a nice view of those living in the upper floors of the building. Steps stones are set in the shallow pool for people to walk on it. It is also a nice spot for quick snaps and instagram selfies.
