Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service was on Monday January 16, 2012. All of the brothers of the chapter participated in service at multiple sites. Bro. Arthur Smith, Bro. Santwon Hines, Bro. Jarell Mason, Bro. Phillip McCall, Bro. Terry Robinson, and Bro. John Langley were lead teams of their own at different service sites.
“First of All, Servants of All, We shall Transcends All.”
As team leaders they were in charge of leading the teams to their various sites, developing ice breakers for their team members, creating reflections, as well as, acting as the contact liaison between the members of the team and the actual service coordinator.
for brothers to experience different type of service opportunities in the community, as well as, build relationships with the different businesses in the state college area.
This day of service was from 8:00am to 4:00pm and it was a great moment
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical contest was a huge success this semester. The program was held on January 19, 2012 in the Life Sciences building. The turnout was great and the room was full with very avid listeners who gave our speakers their undivided attention. Alumni brothers Christopher Johnson and Marcus Kellam came out to support the undergraduate brothers during the event. There were five contestants who spoke in the competition; their names were Gary Closs Jr., LeQuan Clinton, Lasaundra Powell, Seth Moncrease, and Rick Lewis Jr. All of these speakers orated
very compelling speeches around the theme “Stand Up”, which was the official theme for this year’s MLK, Jr. Commemoration week. “The speeches were powerful, thoughtful and captivating”, stated an attendee of the oratorical contest. This year prizes were awarded to the first place and second place winners. Our first place prize was a $500 bookstore gift card, and our second place prize was a $250 bookstore gift card. We also raffled off a $100 bookstore gift card to any lucky attendee in the crowd. Seth Moncrease was our first place winner, LaSaundra Powell was our second
place winner, and our raffle winner was a young lady named Jamika Williams. LaSaundra Powell gave powerful speech that invoked the spirits of people to stand up and make a difference in the world. Seth Moncrease’s speech was an educational one, dipping into the history of culture and explaining why we must not follow the mistakes of the past. Overall, as one of our first programs, the outcome was great. The program even got recognition in The Daily Collegian: http://www.collegian.psu.e du/archive/2012/01/20/ML K_oratorical_contest_.asp x

Perception vs. Reality: The ineffectiveness and effectiveness of rioting This event was thrown in collaboration with Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Incorporated; it focused the history of rioting within The Pennsylvania State University and how it has affected the university’s image.
This event was coordinated by Bro. Phillip McCall on behalf of our chapter. This event was more of an open discussion type of program, and the conversation that held was very intellectual and stimulating. The turnout was very exceptional and participation was great.

Meet The Greeks This semester’s Meet The Greeks for the NPHC was coordinated and planned by Bro. Arthur Smith who chaired the Meet The Greeks Committee. He developed all of the promotions and made sure everything was planned out to every detail.
For those who are not familiar; this event is a semester by semester event that is thrown by the National Pan Hellenic Council for the NPHC fraternities and sororities to provide information on their respective chapters. For the event the
undergraduate brothers of Gamma Nu developed a presentation on Prezi, instead of PowerPoint, as well as, performed a two minute step for the audience of the event. The step that we performed was created by Bro. Jarell Mason.
