• Rehabilitation Credit – A tax credit equivalent to 30% of the qualified rehabilitation, not to exceed $150,000 total or $50,000 per year.

Application Process RURAL Zone applications are available on the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) website. Completed applications should be submitted to DCA on or before the application deadline.

GEORGIA HERITAGE GRANTS Since 1994, the Georgia Heritage Program has provided more than $3 million in matching grants to local governments and nonprofit organizations for historic resources, such as lighthouses, cemeteries, theaters, courthouses, jails, schools, etc. Eligible projects include both development and predevelopment projects. Development projects may include brick-and-mortar activities, such as roof, window and foundation repair, or brick repointing. Predevelopment projects may include construction documents, feasibility studies, historic structure reports, or preservation plans. Since 2009, the program has been solely funded through revenue provided by the historic preservation license plate. For every $35 spent on each of the plates, $22 goes directly into the Georgia Heritage grant program. More than 14,000 plates have been purchased or renewed. In order to be eligible for funding, applicants must be able to fulfill the following criteria: • Must be a local government or private secular nonprofit organization.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND GRANTS The Historic Preservation Fund Grants provide pass-through grant funding from the National Park Service to Certified Local Governments that have completed a cultural resources survey within the last 15 years. Funds are available for: • Planning activities including surveys, National Register nominations, design guidelines, brochures, web site development, heritage education materials, workshops/ conferences, etc. • Predevelopment projects such as historic structure reports, preservation plans, or architectural drawings and specifications.

• Must have documentation of matching funds (equal to at least 40 percent of the project cost). • Must ensure that all grant assisted work meets the applicable Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Archaeology and Rehabilitation of Historic Properties. • Must have properties that are listed in, or eligible for listing in, the National and Georgia Registers of Historic Places and be listed prior to reimbursement of funds. • Must agree to execute a covenant agreement on the property to assure public access, maintenance, and compliance with preservation standards for five years (applies to development projects only).
