Now is the Time to Say Nothing is an interactive immersive video installation exploring the role of screens in observing global conflict. Using video and immersive sound, it follows the real story of Syrian artist Reem Karssli as she captures her daily experience of the Syrian conflict on camera. We see what emerges when she is contacted by a group of teenagers from the UK who want to see beyond the footage they’ve watched on their TVs. Together they co–author an experience which attempts to connect audiences to the human story behind the news. Created over four years, following Reem into an exile which forces her to leave her camera behind, Now is the Time to Say Nothing is an intimate exploration of what it means to stay connected to each other and of what happens when war and the need for survival get in the way.

16 GALWAY IN TE RN ATIO N AL ARTS FESTIVAL

Until the Flood is the latest riveting theatrical event from acclaimed writer and performer Dael Orlandersmith. Based on extensive interviews following the 2014 shooting of black teenager Michael Brown by white police officer Darren Wilson, this tour–de– force show gives voice to a community haunted by injustice and a country yearning for change. Awarded a Critic’s Pick by The New York Times and hailed as ‘a must see show that will have a profound effect on everyone who views it’ by Broadway World, Until The Flood explores the dark forces of American history, race and politics that exploded in the streets of Ferguson, Missouri and sent shock waves across the nation. Pulitzer Prize nominee Dael Orlandersmith [Yellowman, Forever, The Gimmick] brings the voices and emotions of the people who lived through these raw events to the stage.
