At the end of 2008 German state archeologists found an extraordinarily well-preserved Roman battlefield in Lower Saxony, 400km from the Roman Empire’s borders. They determined that the battle took place in the 3rd century AD – over 200 years after the Romans were supposed to have stopped their campaigns into German territory, and while the Roman Empire itself was on the brink of collapse. How could they still have fought a major battle, so far from home? Who were their German enemies? And how could it be that, until now, nobody knew about it?

On February 16th, 1943 the Italian army massacred 150 innocent farmers in the Greek village of Domenikon, nearby the Mount Olympus. After sixty years, the massacre of Domenikon is still unpunished. Stathis Psomiadis, who lost his grandfather in the massacre, is collecting evidences and witnesses to obtain justice. Meanwhile, in Rome, Lidia Santarelli, history professor at New York University, is studying documents to reveal war crimes committed by Italian soldiers during the occupation of Greece. As Stathis hears from witnesses and survivors the dramatic unfolding of the massacre, Professor Santarelli finds out that Domenikon was only the first of a terrible series of mass executions, in which thousands of civilians from over 400 villages were slaughtered. The massacres were consistent with a strategy of war against civilians that Mussolini had been adopting since colonial wars in Africa and was largely employed in occupied countries during World War 2. Despite thousands of civilians were tortured or assassinated by Mussolini’s soldiers as a result of this strategy, none of the 1500 Fascists denounced to the International Commission of UN were ever prosecuted. While Nazi war criminals faced Nuremberg trials, Italian crimes remained unpunished, as United States and United Kingdom encouraged the falling of a veil of secrecy over Mussolini’s dirty war.

Set up in 1940 to produce tetraethyl lead, a petrol additive used to boost efficiency of Mussolini’s war machines just before WWII, the SLOI factory caused the death of hundreds of workers, while thousands were poisoned. Ironically, for almost 40 years workers were diagnosed with madness and alcohol addiction and discarded by the local community, until it was clear that these were the symptoms of severe intoxication from tetraethyl lead, which triggers a process that starts with madness and ends with death. In ‘78 after a fire that might have caused an environmental disaster, the factory was finally closed down. This ghostly presence is a living reminder of an economic system that trades life for money. Ex-workers, who are still alive, and their families give a vivid and dramatic account.

It looks through the cracks in the doors, shooting the daily lives of a selection of members, from the cleaning lady to the press magnate, from the university professor to the young proselyte, penetrating Opus Dei houses, schools, children's club; the film takes us from the dream of a perfect world to the reality of a spiritual dictatorship that offers to its members a ready-made mental and social world. Bar Vezio is a tiny place in the heart of Rome. It used to be an outpost or "hideaway" for the tenants of the neighbouring historic building known as Botteghe Oscure. For 50 years it was home to the PCI (Italian Communist Party) but it was at the bar that party leaders often met to decide the party’s strategies while sipping a cappuccino. Over the years the bar has been filled with pictures, flyers, prints, posters, pennants, busts, stickers, paintings, newspaper articles…which all celebrate Communism and... AS Roma soccer team. Bartender Vezio, an icon himself after years spent offering his own unflinching view on “copyrighted” communist beliefs, is a witness to a piece of Italian history from the side door of his bar. The bar now has to leave the old premises and pack up all those “relics”. Through the move of Bar Vezio to new premises and the accounts of those still going there, this docu-soap aims at describing the changes that occurred in the party and in this historic neighbourhood. Tender and entertaining but also intense and moving.

Instead of puppets longing to be real boys, Baliani`s actors are Nairobi street kids in search of better lives who leave Nairobi for the first time in their lives to show their version of Pinocchio to the west. What happens to these kids during these three years follows the events of the story in parallel. We meet them in the beginning as if they were pieces of wood. A group of street kids who survive in one of the many Nairobi rubbish dumps. They have no identity, overcome by hunger, by abuses, intoxicated from glue sniffing. They conquer "normality" through a series of tests and decisions. Far away from the stereotypes which too often reduce Camorra to a folkloristic and local phenomenon, this is an investigation into the military and economic structure of Neapolitan clans; it shows the drug trading in the neighbourhood of Scampia, the prostitution business along the Castelvolturno coast. And for the first time the authors set foot with a camera in Casal di Principe, in the deep heart of Casalesi’s clan, a real international criminal holding whose business is spread around the globe.

His tragi-comedy adventures in Naples, together with his journalist friend, Giulio Gargia, serve as the setting to give a fair account of the city; from its nomination as the potential host for the America’s Cup, to the drug wars in the Scampia district, until today when blood continues to flow silently in the city streets.

"TheTransition: From the death of Pope John Paul II to the installation of Benedict XVI" When Pope John Paul II died on April 2, 2005, the death of a pope became a global media event. For three weeks, all the world`s TV networks covered the Vatican 24/7, contributing to create what one expert has described as "the longest running infomercial for the Roman Catholic Church" Viewers of this film will cry with the millions of people who came to Rome and stood in line, up to 20 hours, to pay their respect to the dead pope lying in state inside St. Peter`s Basilica and will rejoice amidst the journalists and the crowd gathered in St. Peter`s Square, when the name of the new pope was announced on the evening of April 19th, 2005. The feature-length version of this film takes us behindthe-scenes at the Vatican. It reveals the role of the so-called "Funeral Effect" and explains why the 115 cardinals gathered in the Conclave decided to pick Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger to be the next pope. The film includes an analysis of John Paul II's papacy and provides an overview of what to expect from the papacy of Benedict XVI.

What does it take to survive in the prestigious National Academy of Dance? Neither talent nor determination alone is enough. It takes a thick skin to endure the constant scrutiny of instructors and fellow-students, not to mention the natural growing pains of adolescence. The dancers, aged 11 to 18, have traveled far from home and family to chase a dream. As their bodies mature, we experience with them the delusion of learning that no matter the amount of determination and hard work, nature in the end decides who will have the physique required of a professional. A decisive moment is on the horizon, and success or failure hangs in the balance as year-end and the final recital approaches.
