Fr Doug Fiscal Crisis Averted! After arriving at Guardian Angels last July, I soon became aware of huge looming debt payments and of our inability to pay some of them as their due dates rapidly approached. Although the actual debt of this parish is manageable, we were facing an imminent cash-flow crisis. Earlier planning had assumed significant revenue from our “Rebuild My Church” capital campaign that did not materialize. A dire situation was rapidly approaching – if we were not able to resolve this imminent cash crisis, drastic and unpleasant actions would become unavoidable. When I shared some details of our adverse situation with the Archdiocesan department of administration and finance, I was put in contact with a company called Catholic Finance Corporation (CFC). This company has effectively helped many parishes survive similar situations. We began an intensive effort to envision a viable plan to help us stay on track so we could continue our recovery and establish a vision for our future. The parish Finance Council has been aware of our progress and I agree with their emphatic advice that we must be prudent and responsible. The idea of borrowing more money was not eagerly received, because that is how we got into this situation in the first place. Nevertheless, we had to find an immediate short-term solution; otherwise, our long term viability was at risk. After completing a near term fix, we agreed in unison that we must do whatever we can to prevent this from happening again. Gary VanEyll and Jennifer Salwei have worked tirelessly researching and providing the information that enabled me to join Steve Rasmussen, one of our two parish trustees, at the IDS center last Tuesday to close on a bill consolidation loan. CFC has arranged a package that enables GA to settle our current and impending debts. Most have already been paid off and we are seeking a plan to settle our debt with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Although our indebtedness has now increased, the increase is not huge – remember, we borrowed this money to consolidate our loans; our existing and impending debt has been rolled into this loan and our cash flow crisis has been stabilized. We have a payment plan that is reasonably within our means. We continue to have challenges, but we can now start focusing on other issues without the nerve-racking pressure of insurmountable debt payments. There is cause for optimism – our worship is well-attended, our weekly contributions are stable, and our financial situation is now in control. All these are indicators of a brighter future as we build and improve upon the good things we have, as we move away from excessive deferred maintenance and redundancy. I wish to thank CFC and all of you who have responded to our call for help. It is a joy to meet so many committed people who share our hope for a vibrant parish with thriving faith. Your faith is the true beauty and future of our parish. We made it through the valley, now let’s climb the mountain!

Communion for the Homebound...When we come together to pray at our Eucharistic liturgy, we do not forget the members of our community who are unable to be with us because of ill health. We remember them in our prayer, and we wish to include them in our Holy Communion. Members of our community bring the Blessed Sacrament to them to comfort them and to unite them with us in the Eucharist. We are not always aware of those who have this need. Please call the Parish Office to let us know if you or a member of your family would like to have Holy Communion brought to them. That way we can schedule a time for our ministers to visit and bring the Sacrament. Hospital, Nursing Home, Homebound Visits...Churches are no longer notified by hospitals or nursing homes when a parishioner is admitted unless the family has requested it. If you or a family member are homebound, hospitalized or in a nursing home and would like a visit from a member of the pastoral ministry staff, please call Jean Rief in the parish office.

Mind~Body~Spirit Register Tapes for Education Do you shop at Cooper's Market in downtown Chaska? You can help Guardian Angels School earn credit for free school equipment by turning in your Cooper's register receipts to the Parish or School office. Your receipts earn GA School credits and in March 2012, we will be able to place an order for some items we can use in the school. Receipts must be original and have the date and total amount visible. The program runs now through March 31, 2012. For more information, please contact the school at or call us at 952-227-4010. This is such an easy way to show your support of GA! Thank you!

Because of the Thanksgiving Holiday, the deadline for the November 27th church bulletin is

12:00 noon on Thursday, November 17th. Submissions after that date will go in to the December 4th bulletin, as space allows. Thank you! GA has helped make Christmas special for many poor, disadvantaged and/or disabled members of our community. In the last 20 years, parish members have generously donated over 3,750 gifts! How does the GA Giving Tree work? The weekend of Nov. 19-20 there will be two trees in the back of church filled with ornaments. Each ornament has the needs/wants of someone less fortunate. Pick an ornament from the tree and purchase a gift(s) for $20-$25, using the list of ideas on the ornament. Then, bring your gift, concealed in a gift bag, to church, with the ornament attached to the bag. Please remember to attach the ornament to the gift bag so we are able to match the gift with the recipient. When/Where are the gifts returned? Put your gift (s) under the tree in back of church. Please return all gifts no later than SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4th. All gifts will be organized and delivered that week. Your loving generosity is greatly needed and appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Jean at 952-227-4095, or Cheryl at 612-366-3953.
