My concept is modern sportswear that is multifunctional, originally inspired by 1940’s and tennis fashion.

Branding

Eight One Zero is a luxury sportswear brand which focuses on mixing old styles with new fabrics and modern techniques. I would want my collection to be released as an independent brand within Adidas.

I wanted to incorporate a higher market to my brand, but I didn’t want to use my own name to brand it. Sports brands need a simple but effective name and a logo to match. The name originated from using nineteenfourty written out as words. I feel using numbers as words looks sporty and more sophisticated than numbers. As my collection may not always be inspired by the 1940’s, I decided to use my birthday as the numbers, 8th October. My brand is now more personal to me and I can use it through more collections.

Women who are active, health conscious, busy lifestyle, needs a balance between work and play, appreciating the duality of the garments. She has a quirky sense of style and a playful nature whilst been organized. Likes dance music, going to DJ sets, being outdoors. Shops at Zara, American Apparel and Adidas.

I created my own mesh as I felt sports meshes weren’t diverse enough to be translated into day/evening-wear. I wanted to use panellings and trims from sportswear as a key theme in my collection. The jacket shape was inspired by the 40’s peplum sleeveless tennis dresses.

Originally a jumper and evening style dress were the rest of the collection but after making the jacket I fell in love with the more casual style and the yellow leather. The top was again inspired by 1940’s cropped tops and jumpers. The neoprene mesh added the sport elements and the chiffon over the poly-satin made it transferable into the everyday wardrobe. The dress was inspired by vintage basketball tops, the shift simple shape and ribbed trim. I added the leather sleeves to re-incorporate it into the collection with my logo laser cut into them.

As my concept is to make sportswear that is multifunctional I needed two bags; one for the gym/sports style, big and robust to carry around. The other a small delicate clutch that still matches with all the favourite collection pieces. Both incorporate meshes, yellow and navy leather. I think they bring the collection a mix and match feel.

Line Up

For my photo-shoot I went to Chapel Allteron Tennis club. I liked the half practice wall which had a striking white line across which mirror my collections white trims.
