1/ SVITVARA: A DINING EXPERIENCE

1/ Svitvara: A Dining Experience The prompt for this studio project was to research a chef to which we would then use as an influence for the development of a concept and design of a restaurant. I focused on a self taught Michelin star chef from Slovenia, Ana RoĹĄ. RoĹĄ stood out to me because of her attitude towards freedom and creativity as well as the attention she gives to creating a harmonious taste with each of her dishes.

MEET THE CHEF

Ana Roš ABOUT

PHILOSOPHY

Hiša Franko was a pre-existing resturaunt owned by her father in-law. The first time she dined there her experience was “boring”.

Ana is self taught and she believes that being self taught is what allowed her to be creative because there were less restrictions. “When someone puts a lot on your plate... it doesn’t allow for creativity.”

“They give energy to eachother.” Her and her husband Valter, now run the resturaunt together. He runs his wine cellar and she runs the kitchen. Valter pairs 3 specific wines to dish to create a fusion between the two tastes.

“It’s freedom that defines you.” She claims to have found herself in an abyss of ignorance, just by exploring without any barriers.

CONCEPT STATEMENT

CONCEPT PLAN By creating a space that uses contrasting elements in a way that allows them to feel as if they play off of each other through lighting and materials, it will create enough fluid transitions enough to create a harmonious energy in the space.

energy

through fusion

curiosity through ignorance

The goal is to create the feeling of ignorance when stepping into the space from the physchographic values, but also to evoke the desire of being open to new things by utilizing conflicting shapes, styles and textures that compliment each other to inflict the feeling of curiosity.

3/ CAMPAIGN OFFICE

STRUCTURAL AXON

3/ Campaign Office This studio project started off by creating a 200 sqft campaign office for a citizen capmaigning for town mayor. After this phase we were tasked with creating a space in an existing building for the same program but with a tripled occupany count. By utilizing the design properties I had created in the first phase, I created an evironment that focused on bringing the public in to get them invloved with the campaign so they feel their voices are heard.

As apart of the schematic phase of this project I had the oppurtunity to design collaboration and meeting areas as well as a suspended, sliding whiteboard system that the client had envisioned. Aside from creating and rendering these spaces I also created mulitple layouts for the terrace & training areas to achieve the required seat count and outdoor amenity.

5/ Jane St. Design Competition

5/ Jane St. Design Competition New York City, NY Produced for Perkins + Will

This project was an entry for a fast paced design competition for the amenities and trading floor of a quantitative trading firm. I created a concept with mathematical roots which was subsequently used to develop the final design proposal. By using the concept of breaking down the triangle in relation to the golden ratio, we were able to create zoning, wayfinding and spatial organization to give the space an identity while reflecting the company’s characteristic.

My responsibilities were to create a rendered model by inserting furniture and applying the clients desired materials for a realistic rendering in order to give the client a realistic idea of what this space would look and feel like when completed.

This project was an office restack that consisted of three floors throughout the Viacom Building. My responsibilities over the span of a few months varied from documenting and modeling existing conditions to managing the schematic design phase; this entailed creating renderings and design presentations that I presented to the client on a weekly basis.

POETRY FOUNDATION

8/ Poetry Foundation The idea of this project was to create a building that would house a poetry foundation using an existing site in historic Over The Rhine, Cincinnati Ohio. By taking into consideration the current gentrification of the site I created an experience for the occupants when circulating through public to private spaces, emphasising how the present is influenced by the past.
