New Build Residential Multistorey Basements Extensions and Refubishments



THE BOLTONS Grade II Listed Private House South Kensington London

This is a major refurbishment of a Grade II listed five storeys house in a conservation area. The works included basement extensions increasing the internal gross area from 700 m2 to 1400 m2. The nine meter deep subterranean works underneath the garden involved complicated engineering and waterproofing works created a new swimming pool, gymnasium, changing rooms, lift and ancillary areas.

BEDFORD ROAD Private House Chiswick, London

The extension and refurbishment works to this property required complete remodelling of ground floor to rationalise the internal layout including the relocation of the front door. The works included a self contained flat with separate access for a live-in nanny, a substantial conservatory extension for the new kitchen and dining area and the reconfiguration of all bathrooms and utility room.


Ground floor remodelling includes a spatious independent flat. The opening up of the rear elevation enabled a free flowing. connection between the external landscape and the internal living spaces.


PARK VILLAGE EAST Grade II Listed Private House Regent’s Park, London

This is a Listed Grade II Crown Estate property near the Zoological Gardens. ‘Surgical’ design approach was required to insert a heating system into all four floors of the house without damaging the historic features of the building. The project included the construction of two conservatories and the refurbishment of the internal spaces to a high specification.

MARGRAVINE GARDENS Converted Artist Studio Barons Court, London

The refurbishment of the property which was originally used as an artist studio had been neglected for for many years and in a bad state. It also suffered from the fact that the above ground District Line, was within two metres of the boundary wall. The refurbishment works included the installing of a mezzanine gallery floor and the restoration of the front facade’s including the original Victorian stained glass design. A major feature of the project was to address and mitigate the trains’ noise outside the window.

JOHN UTZON HOUSE Private House Hertordshire

The original house was designed by the Danish architect, Jørn Utzon. ga architects extended the building to provide self-contained accommodation for guests and orientated at right angles incoporating the original ‘architectural language’. In collaboration with Ulrik Plesner we undertook the detail design and the management of the construction. The extension presents a blank wall to the street and acts as a garden wall to enclose the previously open landscape. The completed project was illustrated in the Architects Journal.


Lighting The design of the extension’s glazing enabled a playful relationship light and shadows and created a gentle ambience in the spaces


BUDDHIA’S HOUSE New Detached Private House Elstree Hertfordshire

This long and narrow site with a magnificent view to the landscaped garden required an imaginative approach to take advantage of the garden views and to maximise sunlight into the building. The house is a brick and stone building embedded into the sloping terrain. The orientation of the building was key to creating a four bedroom house. It also enabled all principal rooms to have views of the garden, the swimming pool and the views beyond.

THORNTON ROAD Private House Wimbledon Village, London

Refurbishment and extension of a large five bedroom family house in Wimbledon. The extension in brick and glass provides the connection from the existing building which provides the new basement.

EGLON MEWS New Semi-detached Private Houses Primrose Hill, London

This new build project consists of two new brick houses with a depth of only 7 metres with party walls on three out of four sides. The restrictive site required a clever approach to bring in light into the the principal rooms; this was achieved by the insertion of windows to the front and the design of the double heigh spaces within to accommodate rooflights. Nonetheless, when completed, each house had kitchen/dining area, living room, two bedrooms, bathroom and garage.

MANCHESTER STREET Private Appartment Marylebone, London

The project included a full remodelling of the internal areas including bathrooms and kitchenbuilt-in bespoke joinery.



PEBWORTH ROAD Private House Harrow, London

A four bedroom house overlooking Harrow School Farm that has been totally refurbished and extended to provide modern residential facilities for a large family. The bespoke joinery was made in collaboration with the client who is a joiner and made the all the furniture in his workshop

HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS



HOUSING Housing Develoment Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London

Holland Park School in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea was due to be re-built. Commissioned by the Borough to design and obtain planning permission for the affordable housing element (comprising 63 flats) to be built on a site elsewhere in the Borough. There was strong opposition to both planning applications from local residents and at the Meeting of Councillors to determine the applications the architects for both applications were rigorously cross-examined by Councillors and objectors. In the event both applications were approved. Had the application for the affordable housing not been approved, the re-building of Holland Park School would not have happened.


ISLE OF DOG Housing Develoment Isle of Dog, London

Development of twenty five single person flats built for Look Ahead Housing Association. This was one of several housing projects were the architects who advised the Housing Association from the date of its formation and undertook all the projects up to the point where the target of 1,000 bed spaces was achieved.



EXTER RIVERSIDE Housing Development London

A competition entry for a development of 135 flats and maisonettes on a prestigious river frontage site. The design was based on exploiting the riverside location, creating walkways and pedestrian links to the city centre.
