Hispanic Americans Won’t Be Silenced By Anti-Hispanic Actions No Nos Quedamos Callados Por Leyes en Contra de los Hispanos Recently, Hispanic Americans are increasingly being targeted by legislative and administrative actions that have the effect of making it uncomfortable being brown in America. Racial profiling places persons of color in greater jeopardy of being discriminated against because they are perceived by others influenced by stereotypes about their citizenship, social behaviors, lifestyles, and backgrounds. Heightened anti-immigrant actions by states such as Arizona and Michigan have gained national attention. The denial of driver’s licenses for undocumented residents, the denial of marriage licenses in Kent and Ottawa Counties, and recent proposals for Michigan to enact Arizona’s controversial law that requires Police to arrest persons who are suspected to be in the country without proper authorization, and a rise in ICE raids on employers has most of us on edge about perceptions. The results of these actions have made race relations tense in everyday encounters. News media organizations, the internet and daily conversations are focused on the topic of immigration relating the issue to the cause for high unemployment, vehicle accident and crime rates. Recent cuts to education budgets have put more pressure on schools to force out children who have difficulty with the English language. Bilingual education is being denied to thousands of children in the Grand Rapids Public Schools. Similarly, other Michigan schools are also guilty of denying children appropriate instruction based on their language needs. Hispanic children are wrongfully looked at as being “undocumented and not deserving of public education” due to their legal status or lack of social security numbers. The issue of reporting persons suspected of being undocumented aliens has become a way for competing businesses to undermine the success of their competitors by calling in tips about the legal status of employees to cause ICE immigration raids on local businesses. Disgusting behaviors are indicative of people affected by an economy in crisis. Deportation raids are on the rise and many will support these actions suggesting it is the law. Unfortunately, stereotypes lead to racial profiling and discrimination against masses of people who fit a profile. People of the majority cultural group should be cautioned that the Hispanic Community will not sit idly by and allow discrimination to prevail without a challenge. We too, are a community that has historically taken institutions to court for denying our community the freedoms and guarantees afforded to us in the Constitution. Recent cases filed against Arizona by the ACLU, American Civil Liberties Union and MALDEF, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund should serve as notice that we have legal basis for our concerns. Likewise, the denial of marriage licenses in Kent and Ottawa Counties have been challenged by local attorneys and M.A.L.D.E.F. Lastly, let’s look forward to the cases in education which will likely be filed in the future over the basic federal laws protecting the civil rights of children learning English in our public schools. As a Hispanic Community committed to promoting integration, equality and respect for all Americans, we should continue to show courage in confronting the evils of racism and discrimination, no matter who promotes it, and how it manifests itself in our society. Continue to be civil in our discussions with pro-racists as they can get heated in the workplaces of Michigan. We must remember that people who are racist must be challenged at the core of their belief system in order to change their behaviors. There is hope! In the words of the late Cesar E. Chavez, “God help us to be men and women of purpose!”

¡No debemos quedarnos silencios!

Granholm Announces Obama to send Renewable Energy 1,200 troops Partnership with Gov- to U.S.-Mexico ernment of Navarra, border Spain LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that the state of Michigan has formed a partnership with the government of Navarra, Spain, a European center of the renewable-energy sector, to work collaboratively with leading industry experts, including the Michigan-based wind turbine manufacturer Energetx Composites, to develop green technology. The memorandum of understanding with the government of Navarra was finalized today in Dallas, Texas. The agreement consists of joint activities – including policy sharing, technology transfer, value-chain mapping and trade missions – in the targeted sectors of wind technology, biomass, solar energy, smart-grid technology and bio-climactic research. Last month, the Michigan Strategic Fund board approved a Centers of Energy Excellence designation and $3.5 million in funding for Energetx Composites, the spin-off of S2 Yachts located in Holland, which will collaborate with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the Dow Chemical Company to manufacture wind turbine blades with advanced materials. Dow and ORNL will deliver innovative materials and technical expertise to Energetx, and the University of Michigan and Kettering University will contribute workforce training. The project will receive $3.5 million in matching funds from the U.S. Department of Energy. CENER, the national renewable energy center located in the Navarra region, will work with Energetx to test wind turbine blades at a laboratory in Sanguesa, Spain. Over the past eight years, CENER has grown to become a leader in renewable-energy technology. Navarra, pioneer of renewable energy sources, currently produces approximately 65 percent of its electricity from renewable-energy sources, ranking it ahead of the United Kingdom, Sweden and France.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday ordered 1,200 National Guard troops to boost security along the U.S.-Mexico border, pre-empting Republican plans to try to force votes on such a deployment. Obama will also request $500 million for border protection and law enforcement activities, according to lawmakers and administration officials. The president announced the deployment shortly after he returned from lunch with the 41-member Senate Republican Caucus, who told him that U.S. borders first need to be secured before work could start on a sweeping overhaul of U.S. immigration laws. Arizona's two Republican senators said the deployment wasn't enough.
Administration officials said the National Guard troops will work on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support, analysis and training, and support efforts to block drug trafficking. Support Arizona and SB 1070 Rally Event on June 12, 2010! Take Action Here To Support Arizona and SB 1070 Crackdown on Illegal Immigration Join Our Efforts to Support Arizona, SB 1070, and immigration enforcement! Please sign up to support Arizona, SB 1070, and secure borders. We are sad to announce that ALIPAC is withdrawing support for any rallies in Arizona in June to support SB 1070 due to the discovery of racist group involvement and the actions of former Congressman Tom Tancredo. We take our commitment to working with and unifying Americans of every race and walk of life behind the effort to secure our borders very seriously. While the illegal alien supporters constantly make false accusations of racism and racist involvement, it is of paramount importance that groups like ours work to keep any racist element out of our events and operations. A few weeks ago, we got behind a rally in Phoenix on June 5 being planned by Dan Smeriglio of Voice of The People USA and retired Congressman Tom Tancredo. On Monday, May 10th, we discovered two painful truths that forced us to take a new direction... New face of immigration? Miami company creates 'Gringo' masks Is it Halloween already? No, not yet, although for many Hispanic immigrants things seem quite scary in Arizona and for some in the Latino community, the state's governor, Republican Jan Brewer, has assumed the role of big bad witch. The reason: on April 23, Brewer signed into law a controversial measure, SB 1070, which allows the police to detain anyone whose immigration status may be suspect. And playing into this, of course, is the person's appearance. So, you don't look the way you should in Brewer's and the police's eyes? No problem! Because here's the solution, free of charge and readily available to anyone: the Gringo Mask! Whether you are a man or a woman, now you can boast of a perfectly acceptable image for Arizona -- you know, light skin, blond hair, blue eyes -- without having to resort to expensive bleaching creams like Sammy Sosa or Michael Jackson did, or cumbersome Joan Rivers-type plastic surgery. And for this you may thank the leaders and the creative team of Zubi Advertising, one of the leading Hispanic advertising agencies in the nation, with headquarters in Miami. "When we first heard of the law in Arizona and the effects it could have in terms of racial profiling, we discussed at the agency what we could do about it, since we have access to media," says Michelle Zubizarreta, the agency's chief administrative officer and co-owner along with her brother Joe. "How can we address the issue, but do so in a creative way while at the same time delivering a message?" Ergo, the mask. "What caught our attention was the absurdity of this law, and the notion that we all must look a certain way," continues the Cuban-American executive. "Once we talked about it, my creative team came back with the idea of the mask and the website [which went live on April 30. Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are also being used to spread the word]. Basically, this is all a satire of what is happening in Arizona." To take part in this satire, all you have to do is go to www.gringomask.com, choose the mask that best applies to you, download for free, print it, cut it, put an elastic band around it and… bingo! New face, new immigration status! "The spirit in which we conceived Gringo Mask," clarifies Zubizarreta, "was not to offend anyone. We wanted to start a dialogue."
MALDEF FILES CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST OTTAWA COUNTY FOR REFUSING MICHIGAN LATINO COUPLE THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO MARRY MALDEF and Avanti Law Group attorneys challenge Ottawa County’s violation of the 14TH Amendment and Michigan’s Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act
CELEBRANDO LA DIVERSIDAD
GRAND RAPIDS, MI– MALDEF Midwest Regional Counsel Ricardo Meza announced the filing of a federal class action lawsuit against Ottawa County and Ottawa County Clerk Daniel C. Krueger for refusing to permit a Latino couple their fundamental right to marry. The Ottawa County Clerk’s office under the supervision of County Clerk Krueger has a policy of denying marriage licenses to individuals who do not possess a social security number. MALDEF filed the suit on behalf of Juana and Juan Doe and other similarly situated individuals in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Southern Division. MALDEF Regional Counsel Ricardo Meza stated, “All persons, regardless of immigration status, have the constitutional right to marry.” In the complaint, plaintiffs allege that the policies and actions of defendants Krueger and Ottawa County violate the plaintiffs’ and all other similarly situated individuals’ constitutionally protected rights to due process and equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. The complaint further alleges that Defendants’ policies and actions violate the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution by impermissibly regulating the federal government’s power over immigration and foreign affairs. In addition, plaintiffs allege the defendants’ policy and practice unlawfully discriminates against plaintiffs and all other similarly situated individuals based upon their race and national origin in violation of Michigan’s Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act, M.C.L.A. § 37.2101.

MALDEF Staff Attorney Alejandro Aixala noted that Defendant “County Clerk Krueger’s refusal to issue a marriage license because a person does not have a valid social security number is inconsistent with a March 19, 2008 Michigan Attorney General Opinion issued by Mike Cox.” According to the 2008 opinion, “a county clerk may issue a marriage license to an applicant who fails to provide his or her social security number on the application if the person has never been issued a social security number.” The Plaintiffs in this matter are also represented by Robert Anthony Alvarez and James L. Betzold of the Avanti Law Group. Mr. Alvarez recently filed a similar lawsuit on behalf of Latinos in Kent County, Michigan against County Clerk Mary Hollinrake. Latinos, Blacks join fight for civil rights in Arizona
More than 3,000 people demonstrated outside the state capitol and hundreds gathered at the church to protest the law. Human rights activists, religious leaders and congressmen called for peaceful mobilizations, boycotts and, if necessary, civil disobedience to stop the legislation they believe would lead to racial profiling, unsafe communities and economic turmoil.
Jimmy Smits will play Cyrus Garza, a by the book Supreme Court Justice who excuses himself from the bench to go into private practice and fight constitutional injustices in an untitled one hour NBC legal drama. Veteran Mexican actor Pedro Ar“We here in Arizona are witnessing the historic and necessary mendariz has also been cast as 21st century awakening of the spirit of the civil rights movement,” said Rev. Warren Stewart, to an audience of 300 people his political activist father who at the First Institutional Baptist Church. Other speakers included inspires him. Smits will also serve as a co-executive proMayor Phil Gordon and Congressman Luis Gutiérrez, D-Ill. ducer on the series. Several voices from the African-American community and other ethnic minorities joined the fight, sending a message of unity at a time when the state faces a divisive immigration debate.
“Where do we go from here – chaos or community?” Stewart asked, citing the words of Martin Luther King Jr. “I offer this to be our response: non-violent direct action.” Stewart presented a battle plan to the audience that mirrored the strategy the Black community in Phoenix used successfully in 1989 to force an unwilling legislature to create a legal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This included an economic boycott.
Phoenix, Ariz. – A united front of Black and Latino Arizonans mobilized against a state law that they see as a threat to their civil rights on Sunday, April 25, at the First Institutional Baptist Church in downtown Phoenix. Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law on Friday, making Arizona the first state in the nation to make it a crime for a person to be undocumented.

Michigan Education Association Recommends Bernero for Governor Virg BerneroAt its meeting today, the Michigan Education Association's Statewide Screening and Recommending Committee voted unanimously to recommend Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero for election as Michigan's next governor. "Mayor Bernero's passion for education and for Michigan's working families made today's decision very straightforward," said MEA President Iris K. Salters. "We look forward to working with Mr. Bernero as he travels the state speaking to public school employees and other voters about his vision for Michigan's public schools." A product of public education and the husband of a public school principal, Bernero has been a longstanding supporter of public schools. During his time in the Legislature, Bernero was a steadfast supporter of adequate, equitable and stable school funding, as well as a strong defender of the rights of Michigan public school employees. "When you invest in Wall Street, you don't know what you will get. But when you invest in a child, you always get a good outcome," Bernero told the committee. "Quality education iscritical to Michigan's future -- because education is economic development." MEA Votes blogAs MEA's recommended candidate, Bernero will receive the association's full support in his bid to win the Democratic nomination for governor in August -- and his subsequent race for governor in the November general election. Decisions about MEA-recommended candidates at both the local and state levels are made by MEA members who serve on screening and recommending committees. The committee making today's recommendation was representative of school employees across Michigan, including teachers, education support professionals, higher education faculty and staff, and school retirees.

This Father’s Day, take a day off and spend it with the man who gave you life. There is no need for an expensive present or a big party, because that’s not the point. The day is meant to celebrate the bond between a child and the man who will hold out his arms and assures them that everything will be alright. It is the one day of the year designated for a father and child to spend together and share the memories that they’ve had, while also creating new ones.. June 15th is the day to thank your dad for everything he has done and will do, and remind him that even though it might not seem obvious, he is the most important man in your life. Happy Father’s Day to every man who has a child and has been there to remind them that they are never alone.

LZ (Landing Zone) Michigan is scheduled for Saturday, July 3, at Fifth Third BallPark in Comstock Park, just north of Grand Rapids. Vietnam veterans will be honored, including those who were killed or declared missing in action. The event will feature speakers, musical entertainment, displays, a motorcycle rally and a video from the premiere of “Vietnam War Stories.” The celebration will close with fireworks. MEDIA NOTE: A news conference to detail the day's events will be held Monday, May 24, at 8:30 a.m. in the Pepsi Stadium Club at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, MI. Speakers include Vietnam veterans Stan Cheff and Ron Oakes, Congressman Vern Ehlers, West Michigan Whitecaps CEO Lew Chamberlin, and state Sen. Bill Hardiman. The Kent County Honor Guard will also be present. Plans will be announced for a scholarship for dependents of Vietnam War veterans. “It is time our nation makes these veterans proud of their service to their country,” said Jan Rosochacki, Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. “The LZ Michigan project will finally welcome home these veterans the way they deserve.” Tickets for LZ Michigan can be reserved at www.lzmichigan.org, by calling 800-442-2771 or in person at the Fifth Third Ballpark Box Office. Adult tickets are $10; Vietnam and Vietnamera veterans receive complimentary tickets. All proceeds will be used to support programming at LZ Michigan. For a complete list of sponsors, partners and event details visit www.lzmichigan.org. BACKGROUND LZ Michigan will take place Saturday, July 3, at Fifth Third Ballpark to welcome home Michigan's Vietnam War veterans. LZ is an abbreviation for Landing Zone, military slang for a helicopter clearing where supplies or troops are landed. This statewide effort will culminate in a day of recognition and celebration of their service and sacrifice. The event is not political or military; it is the community's expression of thanks, support and welcome for the men and women who served in Vietnam.

THE COMMUNITY VOICE LA VOZ / JUNE 2010 19
María Laura Corradini Falomir, popularly known as Chenoa (born June 25, 1975 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, but raised in Majorca, Spain) is a famous Argentine-Spanish female music artist who became successful after appearing on the TV contest Operación Triunfo. Her music style could be described in the United States as pop. Most of her music is in Spanish, although a few tracks on each album were recorded in English. Although her albums are not readily available in the U.S. record shelves as they are in Spain and Latin America, they can be found on the Internet. She has sold more than 1,000,000 records since 2002. The unplugged album Mis canciones favoritas was Chenoa's second album. It was recorded in Barcelona in April 2003, and included some of her favorite songs such as Man in The Mirror, Respect, Chain of Fools, and Love of My Life. This CD + DVD was released on a limited edition of 100,000 copies. Chenoa's third studio album Nada es igual was released in November. Produced by Dado Parisini (Laura Pausini, Nek, Tears for Fears), and recorded in Milan, this pop-rock album explored a new direction in Chenoa’s music. Nada es igual was not only a sample of her musical evolution, but also of her new personal challenge. Rutinas was the first single, which again reached number one in the Spanish charts. The album sold more than 100,000 copies in Spain after 21 weeks in the top 100 and was also promoted in Mexico and other Latin-American countries. The following singles were Tengo para ti and Donde estés. 2006 finished with a Spanish tour of more than 40 locations. Me enamoro del dolor was covered in English by Maria Arredondo and is called Even When You're With Me. On October 9, 2007, Chenoa released her fifth studio album called Absurda Cenicienta, for which she wrote all the songs herself. The first single was Todo irá bien. The album peaked at number one in the iTunes Latin Albums and went to the number two position in the Spanish albums charts. It also received Gold certification in its first week in the Spanish album chart. The single Todo irá bien has topped the charts in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Spain, etc. and a total of 12 countries. In July 25, 2009, Chenoa's new single "Duele" from her upcoming album, Desafiando la gravedad, premiered for the first time on Cadena Dial.

The song 'All my lovers' can be heard ahead of schedule, the song will be released June 15.
The new single by Australian singer Kylie Minogue, entitled "All the lovers" will launch on June 15th, two weeks ahead of schedule, after its fans call for their release. The album includes songs like "Get outta my way", "Put your hands up" (If you feel love), "Closer," "Everything is beautiful", "Aphrodite," "Illusion," "Better than today", " Too much "," Cupid boy "," Looking for an angel "," Can not beat the feeling ".
Argentine heartthrob Diego Torres returns with his latest album, Distinto, full of vim and vigor—just as the bracing album art suggests. The former soap opera star and Grammy nominee (for 2002's Un Mundo Diferente) offers a crisp and balanced set of professional Latin pop, guitar-driven and heartfelt without veering into the overly cloying. Joining Diego are Noel Schajris (formerly of Sin Bandera), Mala Rodríguez (the preëminent Spanish female MC) and Jotuel (leader of Cuban ex-pat hip-hop group Orishas). The album's first single, "Guapa," has climbed as high as #5 on Billboard's Latin Pop chart. Expect to hear much more from Torres throughout the summer.

Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher) is just your average, undercover, government-hired super-assassin accustomed to a life of exotic European locales, flashy sports cars and even flashier women. But when he meets Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl), a beautiful, fun-loving computer tech recovering from a bad break-up, he finds true love…and happily trades international intrigue for domestic bliss. Three years later, Spencer and Jen are still enjoying a picture-perfect marriage – that is, until the morning after Spencer’s 30th birthday. That’s when Spencer and Jen learn he's the target of a multi-million dollar hit. Even worse, the hired killers have been stalking the happy couple for years, and could be anyone: friends, neighbors, the grocery store clerk, even that crabby old guy shuffling across the street. Now Spencer and Jen are on the run for their lives. As their suburban paradise turns into a paranoid game of dodge-the-bullet, they must find out who wants Spencer dead and why, all the while trying to save their marriage, manage his pain-in-the-ass in-laws, keep up neighborly appearances…and just plain survive. And you thought suburban life was easy. Rated: PG-13. Marmaduke For Phil and Debbie Winslow, moving their family from Kansas to Orange County is a big deal. For their enormous Great Dane "Marmaduke," (voiced by Owen Wilson), however, the move means a whole new way of life. It's chaos at home and awkward at work as the Winslows struggle to control their angsty teenage canine. Rated: PG.
Splice Clive and Elsa (Oscar winner Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley) are a pair of brilliant scientists whose cutting-edge experiments in genetic engineering make them superstars in their field. As devoted to their careers as they are to one another, they start conducting unauthorized experiments with new animal species that show great promise. Drunk with their godlike powers, they introduce human DNA into one of their creations, producing a creature that is greater than the sum of its parts: a rapidly developing animal/human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. While this female creature inspires maternal feelings in Elsa, she evokes something far from paternal in Clive, something that poses a threat to them all. The Karate Kid
n the 2010 version of the movie "The Karate Kid," 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson, "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button") latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying—and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. The A Team
The a Team Movie is based on the television show of the same name. In the TV incarnation, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries. The Middle East replaces Vietnam - in the movie - as the place the four did their tour of duty. The original series, which ran from 1983-87 and starred George Peppard, Mr. T, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz, followed an unofficial team of Vietnam vets who will stop at nothing to get the bad guys. Sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit, these four commandos escaped from a maximum-security stockade and now survive in the Los Angeles underground as soldiers of fortune. Stephen J. Cannell, who created the TV show, produced the movie with Ridley Scott. Rated: PG-13.

Countdown to Zero
The movie "Countdown To Zero" traces the history of the atomic bomb from its origins to the present state of global affairs: nine nations possessing nuclear weapons capabilities with others racing to join them, with the world held in a delicate balance that could be shattered by an act of terrorism, failed diplomacy, or a simple accident. Written and directed by acclaimed documentarian Lucy Walker (The Devil’s Playground, Blindsight), the film features an array of important international statesmen, including President Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Pervez Musharraf and Tony Blair. It makes a compelling case for worldwide nuclear disarmament, an issue more topical than ever with the Obama administration working to revive this goal today. The film was produced by Academy Award winner and current nominee Lawrence Bender (Inglourious Basterds, An Inconvenient Truth) and developed, financed and executive produced by Participant Media, together with World Security Institute. Participant collaborated with Magnolia on last year’s Food, Inc., recently nominated for an Academy Award, and Casino Jack and the United States of Money. Not Rated. Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage (Documentary) Toronto-based power trio Rush was formed in 1968 by guitarist Alex Lifeson, bassist and singer Geddy Lee and drummer John Rutsey; the band made their way through the Canadian bar scene until they signed a recording deal and released their self-titled debut album in 1974. However, it wasn't until Rutsey left the group and Neil Peart signed on as their new drummer that Rush's signature sound took shape, a muscular variation on progressive rock marked by the keen instrumental prowess of all three members and the lyrically and musically adventurous songwriting of Peart. With little help from the music press or mainstream radio, Rush grew into a commercial powerhouse, releasing a long string of multi-platinum albums and playing sold out shows in North America and Europe. A notoriously reclusive band, Rush offer their fans a rare and intimate behind-the-scenes look into their music and their career in the documentary Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, which features exclusive interviews with the members of the group and footage of them on and off stage as well as contributions from a number of famous fans, from Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Gene Simmons of Kiss to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and actor and musician Jack Black. Directed by Scott McFadyen and Sam Dunn, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage received its world premiere at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.

The apricot has a delicate aroma and is an excellent source of Vitamins A (beta-carotene) and C. Apricots are also a good source of iron, potassium, phosphorus and calcium.
The apricot originally came from China. Cuttings from the apricot made their way from the Persian Empire to the Mediterranean. Credit can be given to the Spanish explorers for the introduction of the apricot to the New World; the fruit flourished in the gardens of Spanish missions in California. The first major production of apricots was recorded in 1792 in an area of San Francisco.
The apricot harvest usually begins in mid-May and lasts for around two months. The ripe fruit can be kept longer if refrigerated. The ideal way to ripen very firm apricots is to keep them at room temperature or to place them in a paper bag with a banana or an apple. There are many different types of apricot. The Poppy, Castlebrite and Ambercot are medium sized fruits with varying skin tones and flavors. The Tomcot, Tilton and Katy are larger apricots, again with different skin tones and flavors. There are many more types of apricot, with flavors ranging from sweet to tart. Apricots can be sliced or halved and frozen in syrup. They are also great for making brandy or wine. They are delicious eaten whole and fresh, and the good news is they are low in sodium, calories and fat, so there is no need to feel guilty no matter how many you eat. Look for: Apricots that are plump and juicy looking, with a uniform, golden-orange color. Ripe apricots will yield to gentle pressure on the skin. Avoid: Dull-looking, soft, or mushy fruit, and very firm, pale yellow, or greenish-yellow fruit. These indicate overmaturity or immaturity, respectively.
An apricot is a small sweet fruit with a golden orange color. A ripe apricot can be recognized by its fairly firm skin, and it will be plump and juicy when it is at its best.

A certain teacher or parent is walking around and giving everyone the hairy eyeball. You know you're totally in the clear, but just to be safe, don't do anything to attract his or her wrath.

It's all about the Benjamins these days -- as in, do you have any left in your wallet at the end of the week? If finances are looking tight, draw up a budget or (yes) get a job.
You know how people are always saying you shouldn't sweat the small stuff? Well, generally that's true -- but in this case, taking care of some of the small stuff could make the overall big picture much brighter for you.
Sweetie, honey, baby, cookie, doll -- these words and more will drip from your lips. Can you help it if you could charm the birds out of trees? No! And what's more, you shouldn't.
It can be so frustrating if someone starts offering advice when no one's asked them. If someone wants to start getting all involved in your business, be polite yet firm when you tell them to back off.
