Noninvasive Blood Glucose Monitoring Device for Diabetic children and their parents, to prevent Hypoglycemic attacks Gluco-Buddy is a system to allow both Child and Parent to monitor the Child’s Blood Sugar Levels, during the day and night, to prevent Hypoglycemic attacks. Using Noninvasive Monitoring Techniques known as Reverse Iontophoresis, as well as fun user interaction, it removes stresses typically associated with such issues. The cool design of the Child’s wristband also removes potential stigmatism linked to current Diabetic Systems.

1. Glucobuddy at night is monitored by the parent using a wireless dock, to reduce stress on the child.

Blood reader gives glucose reading

Hypoglycaemia -

When the body’s Glucose levels drop to an abnormally low level, depriving the body’s cells of Glucose.

Short term effects can include Sweating, Nausea and Anxiety, as well as acting as if they are drunk. Long term effects can include brain damage, resulting in impairment of other www.diabetes.org.uk cognitive funcions.

Glucobuddy in the Child’s daily routine

Screen Interface The screen character changes as the child’s Glucose levels drop, visualising their current condition.

Reverse Iontophoresis Sensors on the wristband extract glucose levels through the skin membrane, through Electromigration and Electroosmosis.

-

Removable Screen The screen module is removed during the night to switch monitoring to the parent, as well as charging the unit.

+ Speaker Activated when Glucose levels reach a critical level, alerting others in close proximity.

+

Dock Speaker Activated when Glucose levels reach a critical level, ensuring the parent wakes up. Dock Light The light increases in intensity as the child’s Glucose levels drop, waking them gradually.

Cad Development Lifelite was developed in Pro Engineer Wildfire 3 to ensure that the dinmensions and proportions were accurate, feasible and manufacturable, as well as A Class surfacing.

Partially working Aesthetic Prototype Using rapid protyping and vacuum casting techniques, a model of Lifelite was produced that represented the final appearance of the product. It also inclded fully funtioning LEDs and arecarchable battery to consisely test the overall concept.
