Education Officer ‘Learning to change our World’

Background ECO-UNESCO is Ireland’s environmental education and youth organisation affiliated to the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations. ECO-UNESCO works with over 10,000 young people annually all across Ireland and delivers a wide range of youth, education and training programmes. ECO-UNESCO’s ‘Learning to Change Our World’ is a programme funded by the World Wise Schools programme aimed at up-skilling and empowering teachers and students to incorporate DE/ESD methods into their curricular and extra curricular work and to engage their schools in a Week of Action thus encouraging a whole school approach and the development of a local DE/ESD network. This is a new position within ECO-UNESCO. Job Title:

Education Officer

Job purpose:

To up-skill and empower teachers and students to incorporate DE/ESD methods into their curricular and extra curricular work and to engage their schools in a Week of Action thus encouraging a whole school approach and the development of a local DE/ESD network.

Key responsibilities:

The Education Officer will have the following responsibilities: Development and Implementation: • Coordinate, develop and co-deliver teacher and student training and workshops on DE/ESD on a regional basis (Connaught, Munster, North East, Leinster/Dublin). • Provide ongoing support to staff and students in organising whole school Weeks of Action on DE/ESD. • Provide ongoing support to encourage and enable schools to undertake an action project following their week of action where they will have identified a possible theme for their project. • Establish and support school Networks • Carry out ongoing monitoring and evaluation. • Develop website resource for schools on ECO-UNESCO website and provide online support for teachers and students involved in DE/ESD developed. • Liaise with secondary schools • Research and write materials as needed Promotion: • Promote the programme to schools through talks and presentations. Fundraising & Grant Writing

Write/complete reports on a regular basis Assist with funding applications and reporting for World Wise Schools programme.

Other • Update all participant information in Salesforce • Maintain files and administration related to the programme. • Undertake any other such relevant duties as directed Equal Opportunities:

Location of post:

ECO-UNESCO’S Headquarters @ “the Greenhouse”, 17 St. Andrew Street, Dublin 2. Travel around the country may be required.

Commitments

21 hours a week Flexibility required. Ability to work evenings and weekends essential. Contract – 7 months. December – June Travel will be required. Full driving licence required

Personal Specification Qualifications A relevant third level qualification in sustainable development/ education/ geography A training or second level teaching qualification Experience At least 2 years experience working in education; education for sustainable development; development education. Experience of the Irish second level schools system Experience of developing and delivering education and training programmes for/in secondary level education Experience developing and delivering workshop programmes. Experience of liaising with a wide range of agencies related to education including secondary schools Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of the secondary education system in Ireland Knowledge of education for sustainable development/development education in Ireland. Excellent organisational skills Excellent communications and interpersonal skills Excellent writing skills Excellent computer Skills Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure Ability to manage a complex workload Working knowledge of Salesforce A full clean drivers licence. Disposition Be a self starter with a positive, can do attitude at all times Be dependable and flexible Be committed to working as part of a team with a commitment to the values and principles of ECO-UNESCO Be able to take direction
