Letter of the president Dear friends and collaborators, What seems like a dream when the foundation was founded in 2009 is reality now: A center for young people with severe disability, fully adapted to be a home for them in the first place. We did it! We opened the doors of our LKF Center on October 26th 2014 thanks to the hard work and dedication of the construction team, coordinated by one of our board members, Elena Guembe Fesser. We finished the building in record time – only 13 months! Thank you very much to all involved! We can only conduct our projects thanks to the collaboration of many people and organizations. Especially in 2014 A BIG THANK YOU to all those who have made this building possible, that will be a support for many families. We started with hydrotherapy before the end of 2014. Actually in 2015 we are continuously increasing our therapy-offer. We still need your help to do this, or perhaps more help than ever, because implementation is not easy, as we all know. You can help us in many ways: supporting us as a member, organizing an event, volunteering, etc. The reward for all the hard work is the smile of the young people who visit the Center!

Support for families ADAPTED BICYCLES We have four bicycles attached to wheelchairs, which function in tandem mode. The person with disability seats forward facing in a wheelchair while the companion cycles for them. These bicycles provide children and youth with disabilities a rich entertainment experience as well as a means of sustainable mode of transport. Moreover, the latest generation model of these bicycles allows the independent use of the component pieces. Therefore, the wheelchair could be used as people have chair for support or to stroll around. cycled our bikes

April 15 - Presentation of bicycles in the City Hall of Alicante Presentation in the Town Hall Square of the service “adapted bicycles” for the beach of Sant Joan d’ Alacant complementing the services offered by the City Council in the recreational beach tents aimed at people with disabilities.

Support for families LISTENING CENTER What it is? A free service which aims to provide emotional support, companionship and guidance in difficult situations via counseling. For whom is it intended? It is aimed at families of those with disabilities, a significant degree of dependency, or developmental disorders, and those who works in this field. What do we offer? Emotional support and companionship

LFK CENTER PRESENTATION DAY On March 8th, we held a presentation aimed at prospective users. The event included a visit to the site and a project presentation. About 30 people attended the conference and were exposed to and informed about the project. To allow the parents to enjoy the information session we offered their youngsters with disabilities an outing with integration monitors to the Lucas Koch Park in Busot during the time of the visit to the project.

A pioneering project in Spain
The LFK Center inspired on a Dutch model, gives a global approach to attending the needs of persons with multiple severe disabilities requiring extensive ongoing support, and to their families.

On October 25th, with great satisfaction we celebrated the inauguration of LKF Center for youngsters with severe disabilities at Sant Joan d’ Alacant . Lary Leon, a local journalist and sponsor of the event, held the opening speech. Soon after the official plaque was exposed and there was a spectacular balloon release with wishes. “Sociedad Musica de La Paz” honored our event with their live music presentation.

The Therapy Center starts working with the adapted swimming sessions. Therapies began in November led by Apnea Association. Apnea works under the parameters of Osso method and has many years of experience in this type of therapy.

This project consists of 4 workshops through which participants can experience for a while what a person with physical, visual, auditory or mental disability feels. TRANSPARENCY Transparency is a key value for our foundation. Therefore, in 2013 we have voluntarily submitted to the analysis of the Fundación Lealtad, fulfilling all the principles of good practice set. Fundación Lealtad (Loyalty Foundation) is a nonprofit organization that analyzes transparency and good practices of NGOs, providing publicly available information to help you decide which entity you want to collaborate with.
