The Algarve

Portugal A year round family favourite. A superb holiday destination for the whole family, offering a warm Mediterranean climate and an abundance of activities both on land and at sea. The main attractions of The Algarve are the beaches; the quality and variety is incredible. Classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty, quiet and charming Sagres is one of the Algarve’s least developed regions, with a choice of 25 beaches. In contrast, Albufeira, originally a fishing village, has expanded to become a hub of tourist activity. Wander the cobbled streets of the old town, which lead down to the modern seafront and a hub of activity with bars and restaurants. Choose from golden sandy beaches or more tranquil coves. Cosmopolitan Vilamoura offers two large, sandy beaches. One is quieter, perfect for getting away from the crowd, the other buzzes with life. By night tourists flock to the marina, which offers a huge variety of cafés, bars and restaurants, plus fashionable boutiques and shops. W&O TRAVEL RECOMMENDS

With more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, it’s little wonder that the Algarve is a favourite for UK holidaymakers. The friendly charm of the locals persuades many visitors to return year after year.
