César Pérez – Engineer of tracks, canals and harbours - Deputy technician to the chief of the EDAR* of Puerto del Rosario exploited by Degrémont S.A.
“Our difference is the guarantee of the services we offer” FMHOY - Fuerteventura What is Degrémont? Degrémont Iberia was created at the beginning of 2009 from the integration at organisational and operational levels of Degrémont España and Degrémont Portugal, both pioneers in the water sector in their respective markets. Degrémont Iberia, belongs to the Degrémont Group, an affiliate of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT (a French Group), and shares its principles of responsibility, social, environmental and corporate. We are part of a multinational group that is strong of 60 years of experience, both for water and silt treatment and for the control of residue depuration and water desalinisation, etc. We rely on the support of an international company with a large research department, a projects department and a technical and legal department, which enables us to be at the top on a worldwide level for patents and studies of more efficient methods of depuration at present, for this type of installations. At Degrémont, we invest in innovation for the creation of technologies that contribute to the sustainable development and a continuous improvement that aims at preserving water, biodiversity and the fight against climate changes. Furthermore, we are careful with the efficiency and costs ratio, as those installations consume a lot of energy and small details can be important. We ensure to design factories that are as compact and efficient as possible at the best possible cost. We have the ISO 9001 and 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certificates. Therefore we are ruled by quite strict norms for security on quality and environment points of view. In the Canaries, we have various water treatment plants: in Las Palmas, Tenerife and here in Fuerteventura (we no longer have a desalination plant in Jandía, we used to have one, but at UTE we have the extension project of Puerto del Rosario’s desalination plant). In addition to installing water treatment and desalination plants for large companies, do you also carry
out installations for private properties? Yes of course, with the experience we have in this area, we are one of the best options for private installations. We also recommend or plan adequate equipment, as in some cases we encounter equipments that are not of the right size, in poor conditions of preservation or in the wrong location. The location and position are important, the size of the equipment is also important, the way it separates
the water, etc. All this must be studied and recommended by experts. Do you often encounter bad installations? We try to be rigorous for the installations that we design but keeping the budget as low as possible with the best possible quality. What other services do you offer? Another strength of ours is the sanitation work. We have a service of vacuum tanker trucks that take up to 10m3 of residual water or silt and are used to empty out any deposit, flush or clean them out and unblock pipes or holding tanks thanks to a system of high pressured water. Furthermore, we install systems of water deodorisation. We also offer a service of pipe inspection with automated cameras that provide complete surveys of the state of the pipe work with videos, photos and studies of defects and inclinations of the pipe work. For water supply pipe work, water collect network or septic tank treatment, irrigation tanks or sanitation in general, our equipment and technical staff are prepared to find a definitive solution with a guarantee of the work carried out. What makes you different from other companies? Mostly it is in the guarantee of services provided. Normally other companies unblock pipes and are not taking responsibility for problems that could occur later on. In addition to finding a solution to the problem, we search for possible causes and try to ensure that it won’t happen again thanks to a technical assessment. A technician is always onsite to supervise the final work and check the quality of the service carried out, if an anomaly is detected in the installation, it is explained to the owner and advice is provided on how to solve it. *EDAR - Estación Depuradora de Aguas Residuales (Residual Water Depuration Plant)
