Driving it home

Tis the sea-sun We hope you have had a great second quarter, incredible that we are in August already! We are still in shock from the fact that we have been graced with highs of 30c for a record breaking summer. It has been a busy quarter at FTS, with the introduction of GDPR, an office move and lots more! We hope you enjoy our newsletter and make sure you follow us on social media to keep up to date with all recruitment and construction news.

FTS Continues its Recruitment Drive A massive well done to our two apprentices who have been working hard on mastering the art of driving.

We have been growing the FTS Team steadily for the last 3 years, to cover residential vacancies and also introduced a freelance team to work within FTS. We are now on another recruitment drive to find more financially motivated, determined individuals to come and thrive in this fast-paced and highly competitive industry.

Congratulations to Tyrese who has passed his practical driving assessment and to Danny who has passed his theory.

Does this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in? Then get in touch! Don’t worry if you have no recruitment experience as our training and development programme will give you all the technical skills you need to succeed. What we are most interested in is your unfailing determination to be the best you can be; and your desire to be, do and have everything you want.

Great work boys!

GDPR Updates

Our Local News... FTS and the Chamber of Commerce

West Cliff Hotel

We are pleased to announce that FTS are now official members of the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

As you will all know, on the 25th May 2018, GDPR (The General Data Protection Regulation) was brought into play. GDPR is the most significant change to data privacy law for over twenty years. It gives individuals much greater control over the ways in which their personal information is used as well as making it quicker and easier to check and update their information. Whilst we have always treated personal information sensitively this has been a great opportunity for us to review our current processes and tighten up where necessary. I am pleased to let you know, therefore, that a full assessment has been conducted and that we have updated our Privacy Notice to better communicate how we handle personal data.

We look forward to meeting fellow members and attending future networking events as part of this great organisation.

We had a fantastic day at the Dorset Innovators Lunch recently. Great to meet some new faces. Many thanks to the Daily Echo for organizing an excellent event and Hotel Du Vin Poole for their hospitality!

Our Privacy Notice provides clear and precise information about how we collect, use, and share personal data and if you would like further information regarding GDPR, there’s plenty available on the ICO’s website.

They secured planning for the 107room hotel and 85 apartments in June 2017. Recently the developer has confirmed a pre-let to Premier Inn allowing construction to start on the site of the former Wessex Hotel in the West Cliff area of Bournemouth. Construction of the basement car park for both the new hotel and apartments will start in September. The project will be delivered across three blocks with the hotel designed in an art deco style.

Bournemouth’s Growth

The council is currently exceeding its house-building target – that is the delivery of 730 homes per year between 2006 and 2026.

We’ve made changes so that it’s: • Clear, easy to read and simple to understand • Open about how we collect, store, use and secure personal data • In line with Europe’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

FTS Chalks the Tip

Mark Axford, planning policy and research manager, said the council has some 3,500 “supply side” homes, or sites where residential accommodation is under construction, in planning or allocated in council planning documents. However a shake-up in the housing target formula currently being discussed in Parliament may see the borough obliged to build thousands more homes than are currently planned.

An action shot from our team night out to celebrate a great quarter! Thank you to Felson’s Bournemouth for the hospitality!

Cllr Lawton said Bournemouth’s population had grown from some 165,000 people when he first arrived in 1986 to nearly 200k today.

Construction News...

Facebook’s New Development

Olympia gets a face lift

Facebook has struck a deal to locate its UK HQ at the Kings Cross Goods Yard regeneration site, kick-starting another major construction scheme spread across three buildings. The deal to take 610,000 sq ft paves the way for work to start on 11 and 21 Canal Reach and P2, the last major sites on the long-running regeneration scheme. While not quite the same scale as the Google HQ at 1m sq ft on the site, it ranks as one of the most significant commercial deals in London this decade – booking 15% of the total 4m sq ft commercial space at King’s Cross at a stroke.

Details have been unveiled of the £700m planned overhaul of the Olympia London exhibition centre. Joint owners Deutsche Finance and Yoo Capital aim to create a new cultural hub, complete with restaurants, offices, hotels, an auditorium and open plan spaces. Plans drawn up by world-renowned design studio Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC architects will see the iconic 130-year-old listed arched glazed exhibition centre refurbished and modernised. These proposals also include a 1,500-seat theatre and performing arts space. There will also be 600,000 sq ft of new creative offices and studios as well as new restaurants, two hotels and cinemas joining the site. As a London landmark, there will be increased green spaces throughout the 14-acre site.
