The Library  Connects  us...with  the  insight  and  knowledge,  painfully   extracted  from  nature,  of  the  greatest  minds  that  ever  were,  with  the  best   teachers,  drawn  from  the  en:re  planet  and  from  all  our  history,  to  instruct  us   without  :ring,  and  to  inspire  us  to  make  our  own  contribu:on  to  the  collec:ve   knowledge  of  the  human  species.  I  think  the  health  of  our  civiliza:on,  the  depth  of   our  awareness  about  the  underpinnings  of  our  culture  and  our  concern  for  the   future  can  all  be  tested  by  how  well  we  support  our  libraries.  Carl  Sagan,  Cosmos

Our Next Meeting. . . Will be on April 13, 2012 at 5:30PM and located in the Gregory Room of the Goldstein Library. If you would like to attend our after meeting excursion, please indicate your interest to one of the officers on our Facebook page. This month, we are proud to welcome Bill Modrow, a librarian from Special Collections and Archives over at University Libraries located in Strozier. He will be giving us the ins and outs of what it means to work in Special Collections. He will be discussing items like FSU’s huge Napolean collection and rare books like the Book of Kells.

Plus, if you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to work in archives, this is THE meeting to go to! After Meeting Event... We will be celebrating our first time win for ALA Chapter of the year at EL JALISCO’S! This is one of the most popular Mexican

restaurants in Tallahassee and they have wonderful food AND drink specials. They are located at 2022 North Monroe Street. We’d love to see everyone there after our meeting, so, don’t hesitate to give us a heads up so that we can make plans for a fun night!

National Library Week and our Annual Elections! Hello everyone :) It’s National Library Week and for over 50 years, the American Librar y Association has sponsored National Library Week, a national o b s e r v a n c e t h a t ’s a l l a b o u t acknowledging the wonderful, book-filled places called libraries and the people who staff them. Held in the US during the second full week of April, this year’s Library week will run from April 8th to Saturday, April 14th.

School Library Month (SLM) is the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) celebration of school librarians and their programs. Every April school librarians are encouraged to create activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school library programs play in a student's educational career. This year’s theme is You belong @ your library. With that in mind, as a reminder, this chapter MUST have a governing body, which especially includes a President and Treasurer, in order to be recognized as a Student Organization here at FSU. Furthermore, in order for the MLIS program to be accredited by the ALA, there needs to be an active, student ALA Chapter. Yes, this means that our degrees are kinda dependent on the existence of our Student Chapter. So, as you can see, it is imperative that our members carry the torch. This

includes all of our distance members from around the world as well as our local Tallahassee folks! While this position is demanding at times, it is absolutely rewarding, and you gain the leadership experience you need to put on that résumé of yours, which we all know will help you nab that dream job. You will have a great set of officers to support you during the interim; ones who've already stepped up and will help to continue our efforts here at Florida State University. Remember: you're not alone in the effort. So, please, apply if you’re interested and make history. We’ve extended the elections until April 13th. I can’t wait to see you there! Warm Regards, Kellee-Ann Francis Newsletter Editor, FSUALA SC
