SOUL CLAP In the now familiar red glow of the 2nd floor at Superfly, surrounded by smiling faces, raised arms and the sound of pure delight, Chic’s “Everybody Dance” creates one of those amazing moments that few who were there will forget in a hurry. It was a night that not only lived up to sky high expectation but exceeded them with sublime sets from residents Dani Solberg & Speneola Martinez and the nights other special guests, Death on the Balcony. They did a fine Job of working the crowd up to a tangible buzzing hive of excitement. The music was only going to get better, the atmosphere growing. Can we cope with this getting any better? Can we? And then it did - SOUL CLAP! What followed, was 2, maybe 3 hours, I lost track of time, of American pop culture, wrapped in Disco, classic R and B, hip hop, Funk and house. ClassicToms, Synth’s and riffs lifted straight out of the 80 s sun turned Superfly into Miami Beach for one night only. We even got a bit of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” andTunes so Achingly familiar it pains me that I cannot remember them! Nostalgia filled the room, bringing joy and fun to an all too serious world. This is what clubbing should be about, fun, emotion and dancing. Looking onwards and upwards as SONiDO ‘out do’ the summer of 2010 – the year that firmly placed them as the party innovators, with daytime gatherings in carparks, pub roofs, factory courtyards and picturesque gardens in Ibiza! This summer expect a Factory Party on Bank Holiday Sunday 29th May and the massive Hideout festival in Croatia on July 1st – 3rd, alongside parties in their home; Superfly. In short, 2011 is the year of SONiDO. If you enjoyed last year… prepare to be blown away! Words by
