October in Dublin
16–19 October 2014
Places are still available on our four day visit to Dublin. We will concentrate on contemporary art galleries and architecture in this famous city. Taking a Ryanair morning flight from Stansted we will have plenty of opportunity for organised and independent exploration. Our itinerary includes a visit to the Royal Hibernian Academy, which supports and promotes Irish contemporary artists and architects. The Director, Patrick Murphy, will talk to us about the RHA and the current exhibition (Maria Simmonds Gooding) following which we will enjoy a drinks reception with the Friends of the RHA. We will visit the Irish Museum of Modern Art, for its collection, building and artists-inresidence studios and also the Hugh Lane gallery with its fine collection of Impressionist and twentieth century art and its reconstruction of Francis Bacon’s studio. There will be a guided walking tour focusing on contemporary architecture in the regenerated dockland area, including a theatre by Liebeskind and a new bridge by Calatrava. And we will visit Trinity College for its contemporary art collection, its fine new building by Grafton Architects and much more, as you choose. Our visit coincides with Open House Dublin: during our free time there will be the opportunity to visit a variety of buildings not normally open to the public. We will be staying in the Camden Court Hotel, in walking distance of the city centre. The price is £490 per person (or £550 with single supplement) to include flights by Ryanair, coaches to and from airports, one day coach in Dublin, B&B in hotel, RHA drinks reception and final evening group meal. A deposit of £200 per person (cheque made out to ‘Friends of Kettle’s Yard’) should be sent together with a photocopy of passport details to Ruth Rattenbury by 23 May, using the form below.
