FRIENDS ACADEMY

2011-2012

ANNUAL REPORT

1

Dear Friends: For more than two hundred years, Friends Academy has been committed to offering an excellent and innovative education. We are tremendously proud of this legacy as we pursue our mission to provide each student with an outstanding educational foundation, instill values of responsible citizenship, encourage respect for diversity and differences, and inspire a life long love of learning. Each June, as we celebrate the graduation of another set of eighth-graders, we know that these young people leave our friendly halls prepared for the challenges and joys ahead. Many harbor the desire to make an impact, help their communities, and make the world a better place. Constantly finding ways to improve, Friends Academy has made its programs even stronger and more relevant. Much of this was due to the funds raised by our capital campaign, which concluded last February. The largest and most successful campaign in the history of the school, funds raised during this campaign enabled us to repurpose and refashion practically every inch of academic space, mindful of the needs of twenty first century learners. If you haven’t visited campus recently, we invite you to come see for yourself! You will find, among other improvements, a completely renovated and redesigned Lower School with flexible teaching spaces and interactive white boards. The Lower School is now housed in one building alongside their counterpart classrooms in the Sally Borden Program. A brand new rock climbing wall in the gymnasium, generously donated by the Parent Association, will allow for new opportunities in our physical education classes and summer program. Our redesigned, natural playspace at the Preschool is designed to enhance the learning programs taught inside the Farmhouse. And our reconfigured science space provides a new science room for the Sally Borden Program. In addition, the 2011-2012 Annual Fund was a great success! We would like to thank the many people who contributed to the Fund, which surpassed its goal by almost 10%. Proving that charity begins at home, over 80% of our current faculty and staff supported the Annual Fund—truly a direct expression of their belief in what we do. The funds generated by our annual giving campaign provide critical resources for the everyday operation of the school, and are the single most important source of non-tuition income for Friends Academy. We thank each and every person who made the decision to give to Friends Academy this year. We understand that there are many worthy institutions to support, imposing an even greater demand on your generosity. We are tremendously grateful for your continued belief in and support of our mission. Our special thanks go out to our terrific team of volunteers, from the Board of Trustees, to the Parent Association, and to the many people who helped with the close of our Campaign, Beat the Blues Event, Spring Swing, and the Annual Fund. This commitment of time, financial resources, and community connections is invaluable to the long-term success of our school. Again, our most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your support.
