THE STRIKERS - 2018/19 CHAMPIONS OH we’re from Strikerland! Did you sing along with us on Friday at the MCL  Grand Final? I hope you had because after breaking a 4-season  championship drought, we won for the F IRST TIME!   That’s right, the mighty B LUE & W HITE of the Strikers won by 131 runs and  only a wicket against the Tigers in the MCL Grand Final on Friday afternoon.  Although there was a bit of showers, it was okay for the MCL to let the big  day go ahead.   We also won the reserves side against the Bears by 50 runs, which was the  2nd time the Strikers won a reserve grade championship, the last one being  in 2016/17.  We’ll really hope to win back to back next season, best of luck everyone!  Thank you to our proud sponsors, Gull Snells Beach and the Salty Dog Inn  for another loyal season it’s been.  The Grand Final scoreboard after the final ball was bowled is displayed here.

THE TIGERS - 2018/19 RUNNERS-UP UH-OH, we didn’t go back to back this season as we lost  to the Strikers. We failed to be the first team to go back to  back in the MCL while in the former NRCA, what was  used to be the Wildcats won back to back 3 times in a row  (2010/11-2012/13) while we failed to win again in  2014/15.   The fromer Dome Valley Tigers won only once, in  2008/09 where they defeated Matakana Demons.  When the 2011 Grand Final ended in a draw, everyone  was weeping. That shock moment ended a few weeks  later, when the Wildcats scored their first ever NRCA  premiership.  Meanwhile in the MCL, the Tigers won last year’s grand  final by only 14 runs and a wicket.   And this year’s one was shocking to us, Tiger fans. We  got 7 runs and 2 wickets while the Strikers, in the other  side got 138 runs and only a wicket.  So make sure you become a member for next season and  do your 2019/20 predictions, everyone!  There will be a chance to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the  MCL ladder so then we can make it into the finals next  season and win our 2nd title!  Thank you to Woody’s Winners, the place to buy your  YELLOW AND BLACK t icket and become Winner No. 18  and Wellsford Sports and Lesiure, your home of cricket  gear in Wellsford town.  The support is apperciated for both business being  displayed in our jerseys, and we hope that they should  stay next season. Until then, have a lovely few months  off, everyone and Tiger fans!

THE STORM - 2018/19 MINOR CHAMPIONS ACCORDING to the MCL rankings for this season, we  placed first on the ladder. That means we had to take  home the minor championship.   It wasn’t the first time that we done something like  that, it was also in the 2009/10 and 2014/15 NRCA  seasons (the ones that we entered the Grand Finals  but lost to Matakana and Whangipro respectively).  We lost to the Tigers and the Strikers (grand finalists)  in the qualifying and preliminary finals.  We took home a championship still, only once, in  2016/17.  Best of luck for next season, everyone!  Kaipara Flats School is proud to be the one and only  sponsor of the Storm, and has been since the 2012/13  season, it will still be the same in 2019/20.  We will announce the ‘Logo of the Future’ in June at  our club offices in a BIG m eeting which that hundreds  are expected to attend.  The date has been set for the 15th of June 2019,  running from 7-8pm, and for only $15, purchase your  tickets now!  Call us on 425 1110, visit us at  www.kaiparaflatsmcl.co.nz or email us at  storm@mcl.co.nz to purchase your tickets for the  reveal of the ‘Logo of the Future’ and the ‘Jersey of  the Future’  See you next season!

BULLDOGS - 2018/19 WOODEN SPOONERS FOR the second season in a row, we scored the  wooden spoon in the MCL. But don’t worry… we  have some very E XCITING news for you to share.  Have a look at this…

THE BULLDOGS & MARINERS ARE MERGING!  Yes! The vote has been made on the 15th of April at  MCL offices heading a 70%-30% vote on the  merger.  The merger was announced in January (before the  second half of the season started) as we are facing  financial trouble as wooden spooners mostly,  while the Mariners are using the colours of the  Eagles so when there’s a Mariners vs Eagles game  going on (Most recently in round 5, 12th of  November 2018), either one of them have to use  plain white, which is not good.  So the newly-merged club, beginning from the  2019/20 season will be called the Puhoi-Omaha  Bulldogs and there will be a new logo introduced  as well to relfect the history of the team.  So there’s a new kind of Bulldog breeding next  season, see you then!

Did you like the Zings in the finals series?

BELOW: An example of Zings on a live test match seen on TV. The MCL has already  trialled the technology and will be available across selected matches during the  2019/20 season.

YOU may have noticed the Zings flashing bails in the MCL Semi Final (Eagles vs Tigers) and the  Grand Final (Strikers vs Tigers) which when the  wickets are broken, the bails light up.   Now we have decided to use that technology for  the 2019/20 MCL season in selected games,  including Wenderholm Round 8 (Bulldogs vs  Eagles annual game) and games that are held in  occasional venues such as beach or other trips.  We would love to hear if you want to have this new  innovation showcased perermantly.  Thank you for reading this.
