World View Matters
Johnny came to French Camp Academy from a family fractured, with no father to speak truth into his life and a mother who jumped in and out of relationships. Johnny was searching to piece his puzzling life back together. His grandparents were there for him but could not provide all that he needed to thrive. He wished they had more time for him, but their life circumstances prevented them from giving more. Thoughts often plagued him like, “Why have a job?” “Why should I ever get married?” “What’s the point of life, anyway?” Johnny is a fictitious teenager in this story, but he captures the essence of many young people who need a Christ-centered world view offered at French Camp. Young people like Johnny, if not shown a different way, often wander throughout life aimlessly or lack a moral compass to guide them through the trials of cultural chaos. Yes, eventually they get involved with their communities, get lucrative jobs, dabble in politics, engage in social media blitzes, and get involved in many other activities that give them a feeling of belonging and significance, but if Christ isn’t present in their lives, often they repeat early childhood experiences. French Camp Academy understands the consequences of shattered lives. That is why a Christian worldview matters. The Gospel of Jesus Christ matters! Sin distorts the way people think about God, themselves, gender, money, family, politics, and a host of other issues. Everything is affected by sin! The good news is that Jesus Christ came into the world to redeem all people for Himself. There is hope for young people like Johnny to experience levels of restoration this side of Heaven. God has given Scriptures for us as the only authority for Salvation and living life. God’s Word can be used to re-purpose a person’s life, encourage constructive ways to live and relate to others, and shape a life to live for God’s glory rather than self. When this occurs, an individual becomes different, affecting their marriage, family, community, and culture. A Christ-centered worldview makes a difference. As you set aside time to pray for the young people at French Camp Academy, be sure to pray for the Gospel to take root in the young hearts living and learning on campus. Pray that the Spirit of God will bring many to Himself. Pray that lives will be transformed. And pray that worldviews will be shaped by God’s Word. v

Act One Prepares for Act Two
This weekend, FCA’s 37 seniors will be graduating—a culmination of all their years here with us. All the many hours of class work, athletic practices, work crew assignments, and vast experiences of living and learning on our campus is coming to an official close. The many parents, family, and friends who attend graduation will only see a view from their seat that day, but for the staff and faculty that have invested in these young lives, we will have a wonderful gift from God to have a backstage pass. From their first day and now to their last, our team has seen firsthand how these young ones have grown and matured. Teachers who have poured sound teaching over them and into them are seeing young minds begin to think critically and biblically. They are seeing the students view themselves and the world as God does. Work crew supervisors have taken students who come with little to no work experience, only to witness these same students thriving in accomplishing hard daily tasks that they thought they could never do.

Transformed to Serve
A student’s journey to becoming a houseparent At 16 years old, Ahna arrived at FCA very upset. Despite the previous challenging years in her family, she accepted the opportunity of a brand-new start. For many young people who come to French Camp Academy, it becomes a safe haven, a place to call home. And that was Ahna’s story, too! Everything God does in the life of His children is meant to transform and mold into the image of Christ. Ahna had her share of difficult childhood experiences, like many do. If you would have told her at As a young girl Ahna had often caught herself wondering, “Why the age of 16 that she would one day become a houseparent at French God? Why allow all these things to happen to someone you love?” Camp, she would have laughed out loud (LOL!). The more she grew, the clearer it was to her that God does everything for a reason. As she looks back on the work God has done on her life Years later, her husband (Chris) came home after work and menfrom the first day she stepped foot onto French Camp’s campus at tioned that someone asked if he had ever thought about being a 16 years old, Ahna now sees how she has been uniquely equipped to houseparent. Ahna’s immediate response connect with the young ladies God has was not “No!” but “God, what are You about placed in her home. to do through us?” The more Ahna and Chris thought and Praise God for His redeeming love and prayed about the opportunity, the more they for the awesome opportunity to serve and felt a burden to serve as houseparents. It build relationships with the young people was as if God was saying, “This is what y’all He sends to One Fine Place! v are meant to do.” Ahna and Chris prayed fervently. And along the way in the months Ahna Mooney and her husband Chris prior to making the leap, God seemed to serve with their family as houseparents of confirm through different people and circumCook Home. stances that French Camp Academy was the place to serve.
Is God Calling You to Board Member Spotlight: Life-on-Life Ministry? Toxey Hall, III By August of 2021, FCA plans to have two homes back online and ready to receive young people. Moriah Home has been under renovation and expansion. Spencer McCain Home will be renovated and ready to open this Fall. Re-opening these two homes will create space for deserving young people to experience gospel rich conversations and activities, healing relationships, structure, and lots of nurture within the French Camp structure. This means French Camp is praying for Christian couples who will share their lives serving youth in a life-on-life ministry. If you love Christ, young people, have a burden to see children and teenagers come to Christ, and look for opportunities to have meaningful, life changing conversations, then French Camp Academy may be the perfect place for you to invest your time, energy, and talents. Perhaps God is calling you to be a house parent? Explore that question by reaching out to Randy Martin at rmartin@frenchcamp.org. v
Toxey Hall, III, has served on the French Camp Academy Board of Trustees since May 1984. He continues to serve on the Executive Committee, Resource and Development Committee, WFCA Radio Committee, and Audit and Investment Committee. State Champion Lady Panther Track Team By: Coach Joe Watkins This year the Lady Panther Track Team was made up of some amazing girls who had a stellar year. Not only were they very talented, but they showed up each day ready to work hard. We know that a man will “reap what he sows.” The Lord blessed our girls richly as they continually sowed seeds of discipline so that when they went to compete, they always competed with poise, discipline, and the perseverance to finish well. At larger schools, with larger teams, it is common for athletes to compete in 1 or 2 events. However, our nine ladies were so dedicated and talented that at the district meet seven of them competed in four events each (the maximum allowed) and the other two competed in three. At each level of competition, the girls must qualify by finishing in the top four places out of all athletes in each event to move on: district to regional, regional to south state, south state to state. Six of our girls advanced to the state meet in all four of their events, two advanced in two events, and one in one event. For the first time, the entire team qualified to compete at the State championship meet. Our Ladies jumped, threw, and ran better than ever to pull off a HUGE victory over twenty-four other teams. They beat the three-time reigning state champs TCPS 138 to 95. Our nine ladies won 12 medals in 9 events and placed highly in several other events. Lucy Littlejohn, Ellen Ulerich, Averie Jane Gundy, and Taylor Benoit are the 4x800m champion relay team, Jasmine Bonty is the individual state champ in the Shot Put and Taylor Benoit is also the individual champ in both the 400m and the 800m. It was a great end to an incredible season. The state championship team was Olivia Surrette, Jasmine Bonty, Lanie Greene, Maddie Davis, Olivia Gundy, Averie Jane Gundy, Taylor Benoit, Lucy Littlejohn, and Ellen Ulerich. v

Cornerstone Community is More Than a Good Thought!
The 2nd annual FCA chess tournament was held earlier this spring. Sponsored by the library, the tournament gives students an opportunity to explore the library and enjoy another avenue of competition. Any student in junior high or high school can sign up.
Supporting FCA monthly is more than a good thought. It just makes sense! Your gift every month provides guaranteed income that covers the daily needs of young people within French Camp’s care. FCA is better able to plan ahead knowing that you are sustaining its mission monthly, and that stands to reason.
How it works • Each month your gift to French Camp Academy is applied to your credit card or bank account. You can adjust your giving amount at any time by simply editing your online profile or by calling 662547-6482. Of course, you can mail your gift each month as well.
The number of competitors more than doubled this year from 4 to 9. Macon Bentley, the winner, won a certificate and a cash prize of $40 with second place, Kendall Hillman receiving $10.
• You will receive a tax receipt for your cumulative annual contribution at the end of each fiscal year. • Sign up online to join the Cornerstone Community as a monthly donor.
Staff are also showing interest in the competition, so we intend to include them next year. The student winner will play the staff winner to have a grand champion.
• You can also call 662-547-6482 for more information.
If you have an interest in seeing chess tournaments grow on the FCA campus, reach out to Lance Ragsdale to discuss our next move! v
Houseparents, academic staff, program helpers, and all of us at FCA want you to know how much we appreciate your desire to help young people grow. v
For God so loved the world, that he gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.— John 3:16
Honor Gifts

Shaping Lives through 4-H FCA 4H students attended a horse show in Pontotoc in March. Colin McGary and Bella Williams placed in their classes. Colin placed 4th in poles, 4th in barrels, and 5th in stakes in Juniors Class. Bella placed first in poles with a 23.16, 2nd in barrels with a 16.40, and 5th in stakes in Seniors Class. FCA 4-H is growing annually in its popularity with ten participants this year. To compete in 4-H a student must be able to maintain their grades and a standard of excellence that reflects the 4-H motto “To Make the Best Better”. Students meet every Tuesday and Thursday for practice and compete in about eight shows annually, as well as district and state competitions. FCA students mostly compete in speed events: barrel racing, pole bending, and stake race. This year Bella Williams was invited to compete in the PRCA pro rodeo in Tupelo at BancorpSouth Arena. When not competing, students also participate in community work projects and volunteer work. v

Have You Included French Camp Academy in Your Will? At the heart of every bequest to French Camp Academy is a genuine desire to take care of the needs of deserving young people. There is another side to thoughtful estate planning that every person should consider that will inform their long-term decisions. Basic to every estate plan is a will. It is a legal document drafted during your lifetime, while you are competent, which can accomplish many things. The list below are a few things that a will can accomplish for most people: • It provides opportunity for you to give a final testimony of your Christian faith. • It revokes all previous wills that you have made. • It disposes of your personal property according to your desires, either through direct instructions in the will, or by reference to a letter of instructions. • It makes in-kind or fixed-dollar distributions to family members or charitable organizations. • It distributes the remainder of your estate to your individual and charitable beneficiaries. • It can nominate the person you wish to serve as guardian of minor children and other persons for whom you have custodial responsibility. • It empowers the personal representative to carry out the terms of your will, especially relating to the ability to sell, dispose of, and liquidate property and to continue the operation of business interests. • It establishes trusts for the benefit of minor children or other individuals for whom you have income responsibilities. If you would like to receive a complimentary estate planning guide emailed or mailed to you, please contact Lance Ragsdale at lragsdale@ frenchcamp.org or call 662-547-6482. v

Alumni Day 2021
By Sherry Kirby, Alumni Association President Alumni Day 2021 was filled with much laughter, sweet memories, and wonderful fellowship. The Class of 1971 kicked off the weekend with their 50th class reunion! We enjoyed a delicious meal catered by The Council House Cafe, followed by an inspiring message given by FCA President Stewart Edwards. We elected new officers, recognized Sammy Clemons (class of 74) as Alumnus of the Year, held a brief business meeting, and received an update on the actives of the Alumni Association. The afternoon activities consisted of a tour of campus, and the unveiling of the latest addition to the Alumni Museum, a room dedicated to the historic preservation of the town of French Camp. It is an absolute must-see! The Tabernacle was also a topic of much interest this year. A possible Alumni Association project is being explored, so be on the lookout for an article regarding this possible project in the next copy of French Camp Today!

Midsouth Star Gaze – Declaring the Glory of God! Rainwater Observatory and Planetarium’s 2021 Midsouth Star Gaze was a success although guests were fewer due to COVID-19 restrictions. We had guests from around the country on-site for telescopic observing, astrophotography, and astronomy-related fellowship. The weather was exceptional despite two days of torrential thunderstorms! The event was informally extended a couple of days before and after to enable our guests to enjoy more time with the beautiful skies. Rainwater Observatory and Planetarium is an educational ministry of FCA providing an immersive astronomy experience designed for a variety of groups and organizations. Congressional Art Winner! Macon Bentley recently was named the Mississippi First Congressional District’s first-place winner of the Artistic Discovery Contest, a nationwide high school art competition sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Macon’s submission is titled “No Fish Today.” Macon drew an image of his brother, Robert, using a photograph and a graphite pencil. The French Camp Academy junior has enjoyed drawing images since he was eight years old. Macon is the son of staff members Chuck and Kathy Bentley. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of high school students. To date, more than 650,000 students have participated in the competition. The overall winner of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include artwork from other contest winners. A winner is selected from each Congressional district within every state. v
