Heavy Interest in Local Elections School, City Elections are This Saturday, May 7th A t least one local election has drawn a larger than normal response this year. “It’s been pretty steady,” says Fairfield City Administrator Jeff Looney concerning Early Voting last week. “We have definitely had a higher turnout than last year. Early Voting ended on Tuesday, May 3rd, as this week’s edition was being delivered to newsstands. Voting Day is this Saturday, May 7, 2016. All polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The City of Fairfield will have two incumbents challenged. Mayor Roy W. Hill is up against Jack Wright and Councilman Joe Lee Kirgan, Jr. will face candidate Patrick lee Williams in the race for Place 1. Place 2 Councilman, Randy Johnson
will run unopposed. All voting for the City will take place at City Hall, located at 222 South Mount Street. Fairfield ISD Board of Trustees has three at-large positions. Vying for those places are Tracie Ezell, Kim Whitaker, George Robinson, Greg Gibson and Clint Fryer. Election Day Voting for FISD Board: Freestone Co. Precincts 1, 2, & 9 will take place at Fairfield City Hall; Freestone Co. Precincts 6, 8, 15, and Navarro Co. Precinct 308 will vote at Streetman City Hall located at 204 Main Street; and Freestone Co. Precincts 11 & 12 voting will be located at the Butler Community Center, 1628 FM 489 East. City of Teague’s race for Alderman, Place 1, consists of Dennis Cox, Donna Senter, and Melvin Mims.

ate in the afternoon, on Friday, 04/22/2016, the Teague Police Department responded to a report of a person with a gun, near Washington Street and Burnim Ave. in Teague. A male, later identified as Joseph Meachum (aka. Hobo), matching the description given was located in the area. He was not found in possession of a gun, but was in possession of 2 grams of Methamphetamine and under a gram of Cocaine. He was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams (Third Degree Felony) and Possession of Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, less than 1 gram (State Jail Felony). He is currently being held at the Freestone County Jail on a total of $40,000.00 bond. Also, in the morning hours of Sunday, May 1, 2016, Teague Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver, Colby Lane Olivarez, had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath as he spoke with officers. He consented to a search of his vehicle. A plastic baggy containing 2.1 grams of
Cocaine was found inside his vehicle, during the search. He was arrested and is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams (Third Degree Felony). He was released to the jail staff at the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office. His vehicle was impounded. The Teague Police Department, in conjunction with the Freestone County Attorney, is evaluating a possible seizure of his vehicle in connection with this offense. The Teague Police Department will continue to seek out the sale or possession of illegal substances and continue to search out and prosecute these offenders. We will also review each case to determine, with the assistance of the Freestone County Attorney, if a seizure of property is warranted. We are proud of our officers and the efforts they are taking to suppress and prevent criminal activity. We endeavor to provide the citizens of Teague with the best possible law enforcement services available to help make our community a safer place to live.
Mayor Earnest Pack is unopposed in this year’s election, as is Alderman – Place 3, Marie Hertenberger. All voting will take place at Teague City Hall, located at 405 South 4th Street. Wortham ISD Board of Trustees elections will take place at Wortham City Hall, located at 108 E. Main Street. Place 3 incumbent Brent Jones is challenged by Jennifer Capers. Place 4 incumbent, Sam Wright, is unopposed. There are no elections this year for Teague ISD, City of Wortham and City of Streetman, as the exact number of candidates filed for the open positions needed, with no opposition. Dew ISD elections are held in the fall. Make you voice heard. Exercise your right to vote this Saturday!
