Schnase is the author of the bestselling books Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, Five Practices of Fruitful Living, Practicing Extravagant Generosity, and Seven Levers: Missional Strategies for Conferences, and his latest book, Just Say Yes: Unleashing People for Ministry. Before his election as bishop, Schnase served for 15 years as senior pastor of First United Methodist Church in McAllen, Texas, a congregation that became widely known for its extensive mission and outreach, for reaching younger generations, and bicultural ministry. He also served congregations in Harlingen, Texas and in Great Britain. Schnase is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Perkins School of Theology. He enjoys birding, fishing, canoeing, and traveling in Central America. Schnase is married to Esther and they have two adult sons, Karl and Paul.
TODAY, October 23rd, before and after worship Family Life Center (Gym) You are invited to the Family Life Center today anytime before, after or during our regular Sunday worship services, to walk a prayer labyrinth. Dating back to ancient Greece, labyrinths are sometimes confused with mazes which are branches with different paths and directions. The labyrinth has a clear route to the center and back. Clear and uncomplicated, unlike the complex and distracting world we live in. The labyrinth is designed to quiet our minds from the busyness of everyday life and allow the walker to focus on prayer and feel the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is an opportunity for silent reflection and personal refreshment, as well as an invitation to continue praying for the fruitfulness and faithfulness of our church. Please wear socks (but there are some available if you forget!) Detailed instructions will be provided at the labyrinth.

Each year, our Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Foundation awards grants to help fund ministry! All applications must be submitted to the church office by Oct. 31st. CONSECRATION SUNDAY Sunday, October 30th, Regular Sunday Worship Schedule Celebration Chili Fest Lunch to follow the 11:10 service NEXT SUNDAY, we have an opportunity to practice both gluttony and generosity on the same day! October 30th is our annual Consecration Sunday, and we invite you to join us immediately after the 11:10 worship service for a Celebration “Chili Fest” Lunch served in the Fellowship Hall. If you would like to bring a pot of your special chili, Amen! If not, come on! Bring you, your family, and your appetite. That is the gluttony part, of course. The generosity part is that Consecration Sunday is when we get an opportunity to practice the spiritual discipline of giving. Specifically, we do this by filling out and turning in our “Estimate of Giving” cards. This is an estimate of how much you think you can give to the Lord through His Church this coming year for mission, ministry, and worship. As well as being an “outward and visible sign” of the generous hearts that the Lord Jesus calls us all to, these cards are also very helpful to the church in calculating the budget for the coming year. Sign up sheets are available if you would like to offer your help with the meal.
