THE OLD FARMER'S ALMANAC TRIVIA
N RT. 60
• The book is released the first Tuesday in the September that precedes the year printed on its cover. It has been published continuously since 1792, making it the oldest continuously published periodical in North America. The initial cost of the book was about four cents. • Robert B. Thomas, the publication’s founder, started drilling a home through the Almanac so subscribers could hang it from a wall with a piece of string. • In 1832, with his almanac having survived longer than similarly named competitors, Thomas inserted the word "Old" in the title, later dropping it in the title of the 1836 edition. After Thomas's death, John Henry Jenks was appointed editor and, in 1848, the book's name was permanently and officially revised to The Old Farmer's Almanac.

WESTFIELD, NY – Friday, the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for Westfield’s community hospital when the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation (WMHF) was incorporated under its original name of Chautauqua Health Care Foundation, exactly 40 years ago on the same date. The foundation was renamed to Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation on June 5, 1996. This year, the foundation hosted its 26th Annual Golf Tournament at the Chautauqua Golf Club on Friday, July 13....also a lucky day! The WMHF Golf Tournament draws medical and corporate professionals, business owners and employees, hospital associates and community members interested in keeping quality healthcare in our region while enjoying a great day of golf. The event featured a continental breakfast, lunch, an afternoon out on the links, and a clam bar, which was then followed by a cocktail reception and a prime rib dinner. The proceeds from the tournament will benefit the foundation’s Annual Campaign in support of the hospital. The WMHF Annual Golf Tournament event has proudly donated more than $800,000 to Westfield Memorial Hospital through the quarter of a century it has been held. WMHF is very grateful to its numerous individual and corporate sponsors for the event and acknowledges all of its treasured donors. WMH Foundation President Kathryn Bronstein, PhD, RN, said: “We are beyond thrilled by the sheer number of businesses, civic organizations and members of our community who in addition to sponsorships also donated exceptional Gifts-in-Kind to the hospital and foundation’s largest fundraiser.” “As we all know, there is no “I” in teamwork; it took many hands including those of various board members, hospital associates and volunteers who helped to ensure the success of our annual golf tournament. We remain indebted and incredibly grateful to all those who support our community hospital and its foundation – especially during our 40th anniversary year,” remarked WMH Foundation Executive Director/2018 Golf Committee Chair Patricia Gaughan DiPalma. For more information on how to support our community hospital, call Patty at 716-793-2338, email: email@example.com, or visit: www.westfieldhospitalfoundation.org.

The Hubble Space Telescope is a space telescope that was launched into low Earth orbit on April 24, 1990 and remains in operation. It weighs 24,250 pounds, is 43 feet long and travels at about 5 miles per second. Although not the first space telescope, Hubble is one of the largest and most versatile. The HST is named after the astronomer Edwin Hubble. Hubble's orbit outside the distortion of Earth's atmosphere allows it to take extremely highresolution images, with substantially lower background light than ground-based telescopes. Hubble has recorded some of the most detailed visible light images ever, allowing a deep view into space and time. Many Hubble observations have led to breakthroughs in astrophysics, such as accurately determining the rate of expansion of the universe. The estimated end of mission date is somewhere between 2030-2040.

Written by Todd J. Tranum, President and CEO of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce & Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier In order to better serve our members and the community, the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce has upgraded its website. The address remains the same at www.chautauquachamber.org, but the format is all new and streamlined. The new site provides a more convenient events calendar that makes it easy for our members to find and register for upcoming events. Chamber member benefits are organized in an easy to find way, delineated by the Chamber’s long-standing Five Point Focus: Driving Foot and Internet Traffic to Local Businesses, Increasing Business to Business Connections, Containing Health Insurance Costs through Pro-Active Solutions, Advocating for Positive Change with a Focus on Reducing Taxes, ad Supporting Economic, Workforce, and Tourism Development. With a focus on maximizing the benefit for our members, the Chamber’s online Business Directory provides an easy to use “yellow pages” type listing. Businesses are easy to find by category listing, or searchable by keyword or business name. These referrals are tracked in the Chamber’s customer relations management system so we can provide data back to our members about how their membership provides value for their business. Each of our six Community Chambers throughout Chautauqua County has its own page through the Chamber website. Those pages provide a quick overview of the community as well as contact information for the Community Chamber Coordinator. These pages can easily be expanded as needed to meet the specific needs of each Community Chamber in Dunkirk, Fredonia, Hanover, Jamestown, Mayville-Chautauqua, and Westfield-Barcelona. The Live-Work-Play section of the site focuses on all of the things that make Chautauqua County unique and special, including the variety of workplaces available here, options for living, recreation and entertainment opportunities, and more. There is also a convenient About Us section, featuring our Board of Directors list and an easy staff contact reference page. While this site has just been launched, we already have plans to expand it. Stay tuned for more information in the months ahead as we introduce new sections and pages designed to make your Chamber membership experience even better. In the meantime, if you look through the site and have any concerns, we welcome all feedback. Please let us know how we can better serve your Chamber member business by emailing our Director of Marketing, Communications, and Governmental Affairs, Sheila Webster, at email@example.com.

NEW YORK STATE FINGER LAKES
The Finger Lakes are a group of eleven long, narrow, roughly northsouth lakes in a section of Central New York. The lakes' shapes reminded early mapmakers of human fingers, and the name stuck. Cayuga (435 feet) and Seneca (618 feet) are among the deepest in the United States, with their bottoms well below sea level. Both are close to 40 miles long from end to end, and never more than 3.5 miles wide. Cayuga (38.1 miles) is the longest, and Seneca (66.9 square miles) the largest in total area. Oneida Lake is generally not considered one of the Finger Lakes, but it is sometimes called the "thumb", while Seneca is the middle finger. The eleven Finger Lakes from east to west are: • Otisco Lake • Skaneateles Lake • Owasco Lake • Cayuga Lake • Seneca Lake • Keuka Lake • Canandaigua Lake • Honeoye Lake • Canadice Lake • Hemlock Lake • Conesus Lake Cazenovia Lake to the east, although smaller, is sometimes called "the twelfth Finger Lake," because it is similar in shape. Oneida Lake, to the northeast of Syracuse, New York, is sometimes included as the "thumb."
Please assist me with my quest to find happiness with myself, my parents, and with my life. I am appreciative for any assistance with this matter? Anonymous. Your spirit teachers and spirit guides each step forward now in order to assist you with your above inquiry. They are each filling you and your spiritual path with the white light and their unconditional love in order to assist you with their understanding for the truth which you are currently seeking for your self and your spiritual path. Firstly, your spirit guides and spirit teachers relay, please consider to realize, every choice and action you make brings you to your spirit’s “beingness,” into your current reality, even while your spirit is choosing to have a Human Experience. Secondly, your spirit teachers and spirit guides relay, consider choosing to let go of your past preconceptions, in order to create your eternal now moment, this includes your spirit’s Free Will choice to be Happy per your desire; this may also include choosing to self responsibly meditate ( which may allow you to become in synchronization with your spirit’s inner “beingness” ). Thirdly, your spirit guides and spirit teachers relay, consider choosing to understand, we eternally create and follow “a path,” which leads our spirit ( via its divinity ) to the Creator( God of our understanding ) and divine beingness. Fourthly, your spirit teachers and spirit guides relay, please choose to consider the possibility of the four lights; the sun which is given to us to utilize during the day light, the Moon which has been gifted to us to utilize during the night time, The Creator’s/God’s light which is eternal, and your light from within your self, which is also gifted to your spirit eternally via the Creator/God of your understanding through your spirit’s divinity having been created in the Creator’s/God’s likeness. Fifthly, your spirit guides and spirit teachers relay, please consider choosing to maintain a beingness of happiness within Each and Every Here and Now Eternal Moment via your spirit’s Free Will Choice. Sixth, your spirit teachers and spirit guides relay, upon contemplation, please consider choosing to understand, not only did your mother’s Free Will Choice choose to birth you, in order to make your desires possible, you also chose to be birthed by her and to be within your mother’s, your father’s, and your family’s lives. Seventh, your spirit guides and spirit teachers relay, consider choosing to allow for happiness within Each and Every Here and Now Eternal Moment; this may included taking the “higher ground” as it were, in order to consider and choose to realize, not everyone is “in touch” with their inner feelings of Happiness and therefore may be unable to recognize its importance within them self and or within another(s). Your spirit guides and spirit teachers each step back as it were; they are each filling your spiritual path with their unconditional love and the White Light in order to assist you with their understanding for the truth and understanding which you are currently seeking. We are fortunate.” The Supreme Female Grand Champion was awarded to Josh, Laura and Olivia Kwilos of West Wind Club Calves. Their farm is located in Forestville, NY. THE WINTER’S ANTIQUE TRACTOR SHOW
The Case steam engine of 100 years ago Was operated by David Winter’s little lass As she shoveled on the coal and poked the fire That once took the place of gas The whistle of the steamer Could be heard from miles away To let the public know It was the Winter’s Antique Show today Nephew Dan had a wonderful display With a 1925 gas-powered John Deere Also with spade plus and rood bands So that the black top road it would clear The body work was in mint condition With a paint of yellow and green All the lettering was painted Being old fashioned but a beautiful scene Joe Eden was there with his pulling tractor A modern pulling machine When started the engines of how many Sounded powerful and rather mean The food was prepared with zest By all ladies knowing their staff So congratulations to you all As being a diamond in the rough.
