Play-Doh was originally a compound made for cleaning soot off of walls. During the 1940s and ‘50s, coal burning furnaces were replaced by oil ones, and the companies producing the cleaning compound lost business. Joe McVicker, who worked for one such company, took his sister-in-law’s suggestion and rebranded it as Play-Doh - a child’s craft toy, which went on the market in 1955.

U.S. SUPREME COURT
The U.S. Supreme Court was created in 1789 by Article III of the U.S. Constitution. It has remained at nine members since 1869. The current justices are: Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen G. Breyer, Samuel A. Alito, Elena Kagan, Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Anthony Kennedy and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Only four presidents were unable to appoint at least one justice: William Henry Harrison died a month after taking office, though his successor (John Tyler) made an appointment during that presidential term. Zachary Taylor likewise died early in his term, although his successor (Millard Fillmore) also made a Supreme Court nomination before the end of that term. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded to the presidency after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, was denied the opportunity to appoint a justice by a contraction in the size of the Court. Jimmy Carter is the only president who completed at least one full term in office without making a nomination to the Court during his presidency. Three presidents have appointed justices who collectively served more than 100 years: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln.

Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely. ~Auguste Rodin
HOLLYWOOD — Producers seem to be taking the expression “Everything old is new again” a little too far. Here’s an original idea ... let’s remake “Hercules”! It’s so original that two companies are remaking films about the son of Zeus. Brett Ratner, who produced “Rush Hour 1-3” and “X-Men: The Last Stand” is producing “Hercules: The Thracian Wars,” based on a comic book, with Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes and John Hurt for July 25, 2014, release. But before its release we’ll get “Hercules: 3D,” directed by “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger’s” Renny Harlin and featuring “Twilight Saga” star Kellan Lutz as Hercules. Even before that, we’ll see Lutz in “Java Heat” with Mickey Rourke, “Syrup” with Amber Heard, and this summer he’ll be “Tarzan.” The “Rock” vs. Tarzan and Hercules ... should be an interesting match! *** Sorry to have to break the news to you, but Sylvester Stallone has sold the remake rights for “Rambo” and “The Expendables” to a Bollywood film company. Both films will start shooting by the end of this year. How will they ever make
them into musicals? And speaking of musicals, you won’t believe this. In Australia, they are currently staging a full-scale production of a musical version of ... KING KONG!
Kellan Lutz Among the stars returning to TV in the new season are James Caan (“Back in the Game”), Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar (“The Crazy Ones”), Michael J. Fox (“The Michael J. Fox Show”), Henry Thomas (of “E.T.,” in “Betrayal”), James Spader (“The Blacklist”), Blair Underwood (in a remake of “Ironside”) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (as “Dracula”). Meanwhile, Neil Patrick Harris has been named to host The Tony Awards for the fourth time. It will,
undoubtedly, be a great show because of all the film and TV talent nominated this year for their work in Broadway shows. The hot new musical “Kinky Boots” earned 13 nominations, including one for Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the music and lyrics for the show. Among the drama nominees are Tom Hanks (“Forrest Gump,” etc.) for “Lucky Guy”; Nathan Lane (“The Producers,” etc.) for “The Nance”; and David Hyde Pierce (“Frasier”) for “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.” Best actress nominations went to Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne”) for “The Other Place”; Holland Taylor (“Two and a Half Men”) for “Ann”; and Cicely Tyson (“Jane Pittman” and “Sounder”) in “The Trip to Bountiful.” Supporting nominations went to Tony Shalhoub (“Monk”) for “Golden Boy”; Judith Light (“Who’s the Boss”) for “The Assembled Parties”; Keith Carradine (“Will Rogers Follies”) for “Hands on a Hardbody”; and Andrea Martin (“Second City TV”) for “Pippin.” Should be a fun evening; after all, they are called the Tony Awards ... after me. RAVISHING ROASTED ONIONS (NAPSA)-To bring out the savory, mouthwatering flavor of onions, try slow roasting. First, remove the skins of a medium onion, season with salt and pepper and place in a baking dish. Cover the dish and bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour or until onions are tender. To serve, cut onions in half and spoon remaining roasting juices over onions or serve with a simple Herb Butter Sauce.

There are times when declarer must make what appears to be a senseless play in order to give himself the maximum chance for his contract. The play might seem foolish if it later turns out to be unnecessary, but when the play proves to be essential, declarer has something worth talking about. Take this case where West leads a club against four hearts. South wins with dummy’s ace, returns a low trump and, after East plays the eight, finesses the jack! The finesse appears absurd, considering that South possesses 10 trumps headed by the A-K-J. But, oddly enough, it is the right play —
not because the finesse succeeds in the actual deal, but because it assures the contract against any distribution of the opposing cards. To appreciate the advantage of the finesse, let’s assume that declarer makes the more normal play of the ace on the first round of trumps. After West shows out, South must go down one, losing a trick in each suit. Now let’s assume that when South finesses the jack, it loses to the queen. This is not cause for alarm, because the contract is still fully under control. The best the defenders can do in that case is to cash a club and shift to a diamond. South wins the diamond return, draws the one missing trump and plays the king of spades. West takes his ace, but that’s the end of the line for the defense. South later crosses to dummy’s nine of trumps and discards his diamond loser on the queen of spades. In effect, the trump finesse is a safety play to guard against a 3-0 trump division. Quite often it will cost declarer a 30-point trick, but that is a very small price to pay for ensuring a vulnerable game. © 2013 King Features Synd., Inc.

ASK PSYCHIC; MEDIUM; ASTROLOGER I dreamed I was at an event and found a crinkled can with money in it. There was a sealed envelope in the same can with a male’s name on it which I did not recognize. Then I lost and found the sealed envelope over and over again. The last time a young adult female found the envelope and picked it up. Ultimately she gave it back to me. Please interpret. Anonymous. As I come into your question and vibrations I feel your daughter’s and your spirit guides and teachers are here with me. They are indicating your daughter’s free will is willing to share what they are about to impart to you. They are relaying the unexpected finding of the can with the money within it indicates two probabilities. One, there is unearned money coming your way. The second is you are in a portion of your life where you are earning more money than you expected to be earning and you are going to continue to earn more money than you expected. They are saying the same for your husband as well; he needs to allow himself to choose this for himself in order for the current doors to open even more so for this probability for him to occur. Regarding the can with the male’s unrecognizable name...I am being told you nor your daughter have met him yet. I am being advised she is looking for her “true soul mate love of a life time”...with a man who is monogamous by nature...as is she. Her probable path points to her being unaware of who he is at this time. This could mean she has not met him yet...or...it may mean she and/or He is not ( are not ) at a point in their lives in order for this to occur. The girl who took the letter with his name on it symbolizes your and her fear which is she and he may never meet and she may remain single. An unspoken fear which emanates from both of you is he may meet some other female first and possibly marry the other female...this not his or your current desires or probabilities. Your Daughter’s spirit guides and teachers are relaying she has goals and priorities which...by her own free will...still need to be accomplished. I see another child who is completing his own priorities and goals. There is an unspoken desire ( even if have expressed it in the past ) coming from you...for you to have grandchildren...Your spirit guides and teachers are sharing this decision is going to be made by your son and daughter and the two spirits having human experiences they would choose to bring babies forward with. It is being relayed you have a lot of life yet to live. They are also relaying you have two healthy and accomplished children to walk with you in this life time if this is not either of their choices. Your spirit guides and teachers as well as your daughter’s; husband’s; and son’s depart from me but send unconditional love and light each of your ways. You may write your questions to Dennis for consideration to: or go to his Web Site at: and send him an e-mail directly from there. You can also set up individual appointments from there as well.

10 Fun Facts About TIGERS
The stripes on each tiger are unique, like human fingerprints. Tigers do not normally view humans as prey, but will attack if threatened. Most cases of purposeful human predation are due to lack of a tiger’s normal prey species due to habitat loss. Tigers cannot purr. To show happiness, tigers squint or close their eyes. This is because losing vision lowers defense, so tigers (and many other cats) only purposefully do so when they feel comfortable and safe. Bears make up a part of the diet of many tigers, due to overlapping habitats. Sometimes tigers will imitate the sound of a bear’s prey to lure unsuspecting bears towards them. Tigers live for about 25 years both in captivity and in the wild. There are only about 3,500 tigers left in the wild. There are a greater number in captivity. Tigers are solitary animals and only group together either when permitted by a large kill or in the case of a mother with cubs. Tigers have color vision like humans. Tigers have antiseptic saliva. They lick their wounds to disinfect them. Just like housecats, the markings on a tiger’s fur are also found on their skin, so even a shaved tiger would still show its stripes.

Melanie (born Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk), in 1970. The inspiration for the song is said to have come during her appearance at Woodstock when the audience lit candles. 2. Barry Manilow, in 1977. Contrary to what the title implies, the song is about two people who made it apart, rather than together. 3. Fleetwood Mac, 1969. The song was used in films “Loser” (2000) and “The Damned United” (2009). 4. Dexys Midnight Runners released the song in 1980 as a tribute to soul great Geno Washington. 5. “A Well Respected Man,” in 1965 by The Kinks. Make Hay While the Sun Shines
I always order a few cords of firewood in the summer, even though I will not likely need it until late fall. That way I can stack the wood the way I like it and make sure it seasons evenly between now and winter time. And I don’t have to pay a premium or compete with all the other folks trying to get their firewood in the fall. Hope your readers find this useful! — Carl F., White River Junction, Vt. A. Good tip! June’s milder temperatures are a great time to start outdoor repair and maintenance projects. In northern states, homeowners can begin preparing the house for winter weather; in the southeast, the lull between spring storms and fall hurricanes gives people breathing room to shore up their homes and yards, and replenish emergency supplies. If you have a fireplace, schedule a professional inspection and cleaning this month — again, it will help you beat the fall rush, and many chimney cleaners offer discounts during the slow season. If you have a septic tank, schedule its annual inspection for this month, too — it may
not need to be pumped out every year, but the tank and related systems, including the drain field, should be checked for small problems before they become big, expensive problems. Outside, finish spring cleanup in the yard and garden. Grab a ladder and a helper, and climb up to the roof to see if there’s a lot of debris or damage to the shingles, eaves or soffits. Visually inspect the gutter system for damage, debris dams, rust or other problems. Again, the sooner you tackle smaller issues, the less costly the repairs will be. Finally, get your air conditioner ready for the hotter months. Change the air filter, and purchase a few more if necessary so you can change the filter every month until October. If the A/C unit hasn’t been inspected in a few years, have a professional come and do a complete system inspection, including the unit, blower, vents and registers. Send your questions or home tips to firstname.lastname@example.org. My new e-book, “101 Best Home Tips,” is available to download on Amazon Kindle! Pick it up it today for just 99 cents.

The 15 g’s in the name are the most instances of a single letter in any one word, and has more a’s than any word in the English. Located in Massachusetts, the lake is officially recognized by the government as Lake Chaubunagungamaug, but locals tend to prefer the longer version. The name was originally given by the Nipmuc, an Algonquin tribe local to the area. It means something along the lines of “Englishmen at Manchaug at the fishing place at the boundary”, and is an alteration of a shorter, older version of the name, made when an English settlement arrived in the 1800s.

Hospice Chautauqua County held their annual volunteer appreciation dinner on May 21st at Moonbrook Country Club to recognize outstanding hospice volunteer efforts. Hospice Chautauqua County has 60 hospice volunteers who provide comfort for patients and their families. Volunteers also work with Hospice in the office and on special events. All of the volunteers offer a unique gift that they share with our Hospice community. They are very special, caring individuals who add to our team. Gale Lauger was recognized for her dedication and received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Hospice staff members say Lauger is deserving of the award because of her deep connection and care for the work and hours she puts in every week. “She connects so great with our staff,” said Volunteer Coordinator Mary Jo Bradish.“Gale goes above and beyond and is always willing to do whatever is asked of her. We appreciate all of the time she gives to Hospice and are honored to have her.” “I’ve been so surprised,” explained Lauger.“You know, it’s great.I never thought I’d receive anything.I just wanted to do something with my time that was rewarding to me.” The dinner also celebrated the hard work of all Hospice Chautauqua County volunteers.

I have my granddad’s tackle box, which is full of older Heddon plastic lures. Can you recommend a good price guide? I understand they have increased in recent years, and even though I have no plan to sell the ones I have, I am nevertheless curious about current values. — Ken, Springdale, Ark. A There are several guides, but my personal favorite is “Heddon Plastic Lures: Identification and Price Guide” by Russell E. Lewis. This excellent guide features lures from the first ones issues by the company in 1924 through the early 1980s. There are 1,500 illustrations in full-color and the values seem to reflect the current marketplace Russell Lewis also is the author of “Classic Fishing Lures,” “Fishing Collectibles: Rods, Reels, Creels and More” and “Heddon Catalogues: Over 50 Years of Great Fishing.” If you love the sport of fishing, you are certain to get hooked on these outstanding guides. *** I recently found an “I Like Ike” handkerchief in a thrift store that I purchased for $25. I assume it is from the 1952 presidential campaign. What is it worth? — Maryanne, Manhattan, Kan. About what you paid for it. I consulted several price guides, which indicate the “I Like Ike”
handkerchiefs generally sell in the $15 to $25 range. For comparison, the Goldwater handkerchiefs from the 1964 campaign are worth a little less, $10 to $15. *** I have a solid-oak tea cart purchased in 1917. It is in excellent condition. I would like to know its value. — D.L., Sun City, Ariz. There are tea carts ... and there are tea carts, and it is impossible for me to place a value on the one you have. You should consult with antiques dealers in your area. Since you are near Phoenix, there are dozens of good dealers and experts to choose from. *** I recently inherited a piece of Hull pottery: a flower dish in the Imperial pattern. Is it worth keeping? — Susan, Carlsbad, N.M. According to “Warman’s Hull Pottery: Identification and Price Guide” by David Doyle, your flower dish is worth in the $10 to $20 range. *** Write to Larry Cox in care of King Features Weekly Service, P.O. 8) Gone With The Wind
June 3, 2013
Written by Todd J. Tranum, President and CEO of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce & Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce and Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier strongly support a repowering proposal by NRG for the Dunkirk power plant. Our position on this issue has not changed, even in the wake of a recent position taken by the Business Council of New York State which has pitted the NRG proposal against a plan offered by National Grid in a filing with the state Public Service Commission. NRG continues to do its homework on this issue. Turning the NRG facility from an old-technology coal plant to a cleaner natural gas plant not only constitutes an environmental improvement, it also maintains employment at the plant and a substantial portion of the tax base in Dunkirk and Chautauqua County. There are broader-reaching implications as well. Continued operation of the NRG plant would pump more electrical power onto the grid to serve not only Western New York, but all of New York State. The fact is that the NRG repowering project would be a $1-billion investment in Western New York. That type of investment does not often come along in our region, and it deserves the support of everyone who is interested in economic development and growth in this part of the state. We are extremely disappointed that the Business Council chose to pit these two power-producing entities against one another before the Public Service Commission. There is room for both utilities to improve their production and distribution systems and make meaningful contributions to the power grid. The Business Council has said it is willing to “clarify” its position for the PSC. At the time of this writing, we are waiting to learn the details of that clarification. We sincerely appreciate all of the work of Senator Cathy Young, Assemblyman Andrew Goodell, Senator George Maziarz and Senator Mike Nozziolo and County Executive Greg Edwards for their continued hard work on the Power Up Project. Fortunately, because of their efforts, the PSC must now consider the economic impact on a community when it makes a determination. The truth is that shutting down the NRG plant would have a substantial negative economic impact in Chautauqua County, while repowering it would have a positive impact. We will continue to make that case and to work with our elected officials on this issue.

BOSTON RED SOX ATTENDANCE
On September 8, 2008, the Red Sox set a Major League record with their 456th consecutive homepark sellout. The previous record had been held by the Cleveland Indians, who sold out 455 games between June 12, 1995 and April 2, 2001. The streak began on May 15, 2003 against the Texas Rangers. The Red Sox are only the fourth team to sell out every home game of an entire season (the 1996 Colorado Rockies and the 2000 San Francisco Giants being the other two).
The streak ended in April 2013 at 820 (794 regular season games and an additional 26 in the post season.).

Hubbard is the largest tidewater glacier on the North American continent. Hubbard has also been thickening and advancing toward the Gulf of Alaska ever since it was first mapped by the International Boundary Commission in 1895 (Davidson, 1903). And, this is happening despite climate change and the fact that many glaciers are thinning and retreating.
South America – Perito Moreno Glacier
90% of the world’s glaciers in Antarctica and Patagonia at the southern tip of South America are melting quickly. Argentina’s mighty Perito Moreno glacier is thriving in defiance of the global climate change. University of Alaska Fairbanks experts say the area’s heavy precipitation seems to have increased. This combined with strong, cold Patagonian winds has reinforced the glacier.
Europe – Vatnajokull Glacier
The Vatnajokull covers about 8% of Iceland with and average thickness of 400meter. Beneath the glacier are active volcanoes. Grimsvoth Volcano is Iceland’s most active – latest eruptions in 1996, 1998, 2004.
Africa – Glaciers of Kilimanjaro
These glaciers may not be the biggest on the continent but they are definitely on the highest mountain of the continent. They were also the center of much global warming alarmist hype until it was proven that retreat and advance of glaciers is not caused by climate change as much as it is caused by overall changes in precipitation.

Australia’s little know glaciers sit in sub-Antarctic Heard Island in the Indian Ocean. The area was discovered by U.S. Captain William Heard in 1853. Scientists call the area an ideal laboratory for studying climate change – at the end of the Polar Zone and isolated from humans.
Antarctica – Lambert Glacier
Lambert along with Mellor and Fisher glaciers, which form the upper extension of the Lambert, the ice mass have been measured at 320 mi. long and over 40 mi. wide. “The Lambert drains into the massive Amery Ice Shelf at longitude 70 deg. Asia – Siachen Glacier
Siachen glacier is the highest battleground on earth. It is a place where India and Pakistan always meet in a frozen standoff. It is the world’s largest non polar glacier, Siachen glacier is sometimes called third pole. This glacier is well known for its scarce population and treacherous climatic conditions. Siachin boasts more than 2 trillion cubic feet of ice, and within 25 kms has 45 peaks which rise up to a height of 18000 feet.
