The question ‘so, when are you going to have kids?’ highlights a contradiction within our social interactions. Whilst the answer to this question is potentially complicated, and always personal, it so often falls under the category of small talk. At the same time, the difficulties of infertility are taboo: rarely discussed and largely misunderstood. This book shines a light on a few of the reasons why this question should come with a health warning. The combination of whimsical metaphor and brutal realism tell a painful narrative that belongs not just to the narrator, but to the millions of women worldwide who have also shown their not-so-private privates to an army of medics.
