Life By the River
The Grove Community News
Welcome to Spring 2020 The sun is shining a little longer each day. With trees in blossom, there are new colours to discover. So it should come as no surprise that everyone is finding their two hours of exercise even more enjoyable. Just look around when you’re out and about. The residents here at The Grove already have a spring in their step. Seasonal changes aside, there have been other developments. The park outside the Sales Office and Little Growling Café has been upgraded. Why not walk that way next time? Bethany Road Bridge is also complete. Of course, speaking of improvements, we now have our very own Spoonville community that is putting a smile on the faces of everyone who passes by. We may be wearing masks and needing to social distance, but that has only made us more connected here at The Grove. Like when we staged our first virtual tea party. All these stories and more are inside this issue. But if there is anything you’d like to see covered in the future or have an idea for a story please get in touch. For now though, pop on the kettle and put your feet up with the very latest copy of The Grove Community News. Happy reading.
What’s on Covid-19 Update At Frasers Property Australia, we continue to take every precaution for the safety and well-being of our residents, customers and staff. In response to the latest restrictions from the Victorian State Government, our sales office at The Grove remains closed to visitors. That said, our sales team are still here to assist you with your enquiries by phone, video chat or email. Just contact us by whatever means is easiest for you. In the meantime, maintaining the healthy habits we have learned over the last few months will go a long way to helping keep our community well this Spring. Regular hand washing and sanitising throughout the day is one of the most effective ways to slow the spread of diseases. Also trading a handshake for an elbow bump or friendly wave is a great way to limit your exposure.
Inside scoop! The Grove’s very own Spoonville is creating quite a stir. Melbourne’s first lockdown saw teddy bears and rainbows appearing in windows. Now lockdown 2.0 has another activity for children as communities full of brightly painted spoon characters pop up across Melbourne, including here at The Grove. It’s as easy as going through your cutlery draw, taking a suitable wooden or metal spoon and painting a face onto the ladle part. You can turn your spoon into a Mum, a Dad, a grandparent, a child, an animal, a favourite character or even one of our wonderful COVID-19 heroes. Imagine your Spoonville having its own doctor, nurse, a cleaner, supermarket worker, police officer, defence force personnel or anyone else you can think of who has been a stand-out for their dedication throughout these past months. Whether you want to add a character or not is entirely up to you. Either way, be sure you take a wander down Cuttlefish Circuit to the Hogan’s House Heritage Site to see our own little spoon village.
Join in the fun. Add your own creation to our new Spoonville community.
What’s on Our very own box of goodies Who can resist these Grazing Boxes from Little Growling Café? Whether you’re watching a movie, rewarding the kids for their hard work home schooling, or even surprising someone in the neighbourhood you know could do with some cheering, then be sure to put in an order. Little Growling Café has kept us all going during lockdown and, now more than ever, it’s vital we support local business. Ready for contactless pick up or delivery, check out the full selection of Grazing Boxes online at facebook.com/littlegrowlingcafe or, if you prefer, phone or text 0404 311 833 to order. How sweet is this? But there are also grazing boxes that are savoury.
Can you pass the sugar? Our first ever Lockdown Afternoon Tea was such a treat. On Saturday September 12, the residents of The Grove baked scones, made sandwiches, cooked little savouries, took those cakes out of the oven then set the table for this special event. How much fun it was to sit down in your own home, knowing everyone was doing the same. Of course, the best part was when everyone took pictures and shared these with their neighbours. Sort of like passing the sugar from a distance. Many thanks to all those who participated and let’s have another of these in the future. A cup of tea makes everything better especially when it is shared with friends.
What’s on Wyndham Together We may have to keep our distance but we can still safely get together through this welcoming online community. Wyndham City Council is offering a whole range of activities, events and programs so residents of all interests and ages can join in. Story reading for the kids, cooking, fitness classes, self-defence, girls’ nights online, the Wyndham City Council has plenty to fill in the time over lockdown. There are even practical sessions as well, like help with writing a resume so you can use this downtime to kickstart a new career. In fact there are pages to scroll at your leisure until you see one, two or a few that you would like to do and, believe us, you will, there is so much to choose from. With multiple events most days of the week, Wyndham City Council is keeping us all in touch. Visit wyndhamtogether.com.au for more information.
Updates Landscaping Upgrade What a sight! If you haven’t walked by the Sales Office for a while you are in for a pleasant surprise. The entire area outside the Sales Office and Little Growling Café has undergone an amazing upgrade that is now nearing completion. This includes new shelters, water features and a cricket pitch. Soon there will even be soft balls and bats available from the Sales Office. Once restrictions are eased it will be the park where you can gather for a picnic and a friendly match. Or just a place where you find it’s really easy to unwind. We cannot wait to see our residents make full use of this idyllic setting in the not too distant future. Just another wonderful thing to look forward to living here at The Grove.

Hogans Road Bridge In time, crossing Hogans Road will be easier for residents of The Grove and their visitors. However some things need to be done beforehand. The developer responsible for removal of the existing water main is working on getting approvals from Wyndham City Council and City West Water, with regard to the revised location. Then once that gets the okay we can commence construction. Once started, the development is expected to take 18 months, during which time Hogans Road will be closed, with commuters diverted to Bethany Road Bridge and Sayers Road. When this bridge is finally complete, residents crossing Hogans Road won’t need to compete with traffic, and that will be better for everyone.
Updates Davis Creek Footbridge Construction of the footbridge is well underway and is anticipated to be completed by October. This footbridge will enable residents to reach the two neighbouring sporting ovals and tennis courts without needing to go via Hogans Road. Making these fantastic facilities more accessible. The Grove has always prided itself on being a pedestrian friendly community and with this new addition on Davis Creek, it is following through with that commitment.

Town Centre Precinct The big news is that the first part of the Town Centre precinct is now well underway, construction having commenced on the new Community Centre. This facility is being delivered by Wyndham City Council and will provide a significant link between both the future retail centre and government schools. For residents of The Grove, this local community centre will ensure a range of very important services, conveniently close to home.
Wyndham City Council commenced construction on the facility earlier this year and are forecasting completion in late January 2021. We will keep you up to date on this important part of the future town centre as construction progresses. In the meantime, planning for the balance of the town centre is ongoing and we hope to make some exciting announcements before this year’s end.
For mums and their little ones, there will be maternal and child health services. Also childcare and early education, including a kindergarten for four-year-olds. Along with consulting rooms, this community centre will boast a gathering space where locals can congregate. Add to this a range of programs to suit all ages and this will be a place where everyone feels welcomed. In this community centre there will be free WiFi, as well as meeting spaces, so local groups can come together to make an already good life better, here by the river.
The Community Centre will be ready for visitors early 2021.
