Community Resilience

Climate Local climate for the region is predominantly temperate, influenced by proximity to the coastline and the regular occurrence of cold fronts and low pressure systems. Average Summer temperatures range from 12ºC to 25.7ºC with the hottest days typically occurring in January/February. Average Winter temperatures range from 5.1ºC to 14.9ºC with the coolest days typically occurring in July. There are several climate factors that The Grove residents should be aware of, so as to be better prepared in the event of an extreme weather event: • The location of the community is currently mapped in a bushfire prone area • The community is located in proximity to Davis Creek and Werribee River waterways however these pose limited flooding constraints and flood considerations have been incorporated into the community design • Projections indicate a significant increase in extreme heat events over 350C, increasing the risk of heat stress and fire weather days • Increased intensity of rainfall events may potentially pose access and egress risks (road closures) as well as drainage capacity issues.
