Unearthing the World’s Largest Sand Island
Queensland’s Fraser Island offers up an ever-changing dune scape for adventurous travellers. This World Heritage-listed national park, which sits within the Great Sandy Biosphere and adjoins the Great Sandy Marine Park, offers a unique blend of action and adventure versus relaxation and total immersion in nature. The natural diversity of this island paradise – sub-tropical rainforest, stunning dune lakes, arid dunes, fresh-water creeks and the seaside – makes it a must-see on any Australian east coast itinerary.

Immerse yourself in nature at Kingfisher Bay From beginning to building to being, Kingfisher Bay Resort had to measure up as a place fit to grace the extraordinary environmental treasure that is Fraser Island. Buildings sit lightly on the land to allow Fraser’s wildlife to move freely; external colours reflect the natural hues of its surrounds; and resort rangers are generous with their knowledge of bush and beach.
Set in a natural sand amphitheatre, generous-sized hotel rooms are offset with private balconies which offer bush, mirror lake or bay views. Self-contained two and threebedroomed villas and holiday houses offer a comfortable base from which to explore this giant sand dune. There’s even multi-share accommodation for groups.
The resort’s Executive Chef has drawn inspiration from Fraser Island’s indigenous Butchulla tribe – crafting his menus to blend seasonal, local produce, fresh seafood, Australian bush tucker and island living. This is a place where herbs and garnishes are home-grown at the resort’s nursery, and delivered fresh by our gardeners to the kitchen door.
Kingfisher Bay’s signature restaurant, Seabelle, offers a high-end bush tucker dining experience and complements the bistro-style, café and buffet outlets on offer. Plus, our Flames of Fraser pop-up restaurant artfully combines beach setting, the bush flavour palette and the art of story-telling into an unforgettable Fraser night.
