This series is about the inner damage people suffer because of love. For me, love is like a roller-coaster: it can make us feel really high, but after that it brings us down. This serie focuses on the lows. On the ways we can long for somebody that isn’t with us anymore, the emptiness they leave us with, and how we can miss someone so deeply it even hurts. My approach to this theme is to start thinking of emotions and feelings, and make a lot of sketches, which then come to life in a big watercolour paper. I use a mixed media technique, focusing on watercolour and ballpoint pen and the use of bright colors. This use of colors makes a contrast with the sad themes, making my illustrations look melancholic. Apart from that, I make this contrast because even if it’s a really sad theme, there is always a good thing about sadness, and that is that it makes us carry on and overtake the things that happens to us, and to be ready for a new love.

−/+ / Katarína Szabová Die Serie −/+ von je 2 Bilder zeigt beide Seiten von der Liebe. Sie hat für mich nicht nur die schöne und glückliche Ebene. Sie war Mal für mich ein trauriger Bestandteil meines Lebens. Ich habe geliebt ohne geliebt zu werden. In dem zweiten Teil sind ebenso intime Momente gezeigt die dieselben Motive in neuen Umgebungen nachahmen. Die Füße stehen für die Zerbrechlichkeit einer Seele. Als deren Fragment. Plötzlich werden sie im zweiten Bild begleitet. Das Rückenportrait mit einer erkennbaren Wirbelsäule die für mich ebenso eine innere Zerbrechlichkeit eines Menschen symbolisiert wird zum frontalen Abbild zweier Menschen und dessen gegenseitiger Unterstützung. Ich liebe und ich bin geliebt.
Der Nachbar / Michèle Yves Pauty Manchmal bekommt man eine Liebe die man braucht, manchmal eine Liebe die man will. Oft verwischen sich diese Grenzen und man verstrickt sich und findet den Weg nicht mehr hinaus aus dem Wollen, obwohl man längst nicht mehr braucht.
