THE FREEHAND SKETHES EXERSISES WERE PRACTICED IN ORDER TO LEARN THE BASIC SKILLS OF COMPOSING DRAWINGS INCLUDING LINEWEIGHT AND SHADING. THE TIMED PERSPECTIVES WERE BUILT TO TEACH US HOW TO MAKE A DRAWING CLEAR, WITH A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME WE NEEDED TO PUT ENOUGH INFORMATION ON THE PAPER TO BE UNDERSTANDABLE, A TASK THAT IS VERY DIFFICULT WITH ONLY ONE MINUTE, IT WAS NECESSARY TO LEARN WHAT DETAILS TO SACRIFICE WHILE STILL MAINTAINING CLARITY. THE PEPPER SKETCHES WERE CREATED TO TEACH THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DRAWINGS, INCLUDING PERSPECTIVE, PLAN, AND SECTION, AS WELL AS TEACHING LINEWEIGHTS.

SERISES A WAS BROKEN UP INTO THREE PARTS, THE FIRST BEING TO TAKE A SERIES OF PHOTOGRAPHS OF IMPLIED SPACES. THE NEXT EXERSISE WAS TO CREATE A SERIES OF ANALITICAL TRACES OF THOSE PHOTOGRAPHS, SHOWING THIS IMPLIED SPACE AND WHAT COMPOSITIONAL ELEMENTS CREATE IT. THE FINAL PORTION OF THE SERIES WAS TO CREATE A CHIPBOARD MODEL BY FOLDING AND SCORING. THIS MODEL NEEDED TO PORTRAY THE COMPOSITIONAL ELEMENTS ANALIZED IN THE SKETHES. MY MODEL AND SKETCHES BOTH PORTRAY CONTRAST IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS INCLUDING LIGHT VS DARK, AXES, SCALE, AND TEXTURE. THE MODEL WAS TO BE MADE OUT OF THREE 12 BY 12 SHEETS OF CHIPBOARD. ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE TO CREATE A SERIES OF DRAWINGS OF OUR MODEL BOTH HAND DRAWN AND DIGITALLY. WE WERE TO CREATE PLANS, ELEVATIONS, AND SECTIONS, AS WELL AS ANALITICAL DIAGRAMS THINKING ABOUT SCALE, CONTRAST, DEPTH, AND VARIOUS OTHER COMPOSTIONAL ELEMENTS. FINNALY, WE WERE TO CREATE PERSPECTIVS OF OUR MODEL EDITED TO CREATE A DRAWING THAT WOULD PORTRAY A HABITABLE SPACE.

SERIES B WAS ALSO BROKEN UP INTO THREE PHASES, THE FIRST BEING VERY SIMILAR TO SERIES A, TO TAKE A SERIES OF PHOTOGRAPHS. THIS TIME THE SPACES NEEDED TO PORTRAY FIGURE GROUND RELATIONSHIPS. AGAIN, THESE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TO BE FOLLOWED UP WITH A SERIES OF TRACES PORTAYING THESE RELATIONSHIPS AND THE COMPOSITIONAL ELEMENTS THAT CREATE THEM. PART THREE WAS TO TAKE ANOTHER STUDENTS MODEL FROM SERIES A, ALTER IT, AND CREATE A SITE FOR THE MODEL WITH THE SAME FOLDING AND SCORING TECHNIQUES, WHILE ALSO PORTRAYING THE SAME COMPOSTIONAL ELEMENTS FOR THE TRACES. MY TRACES AND MODEL BOTH FOCUSED ON TRANSITION AND HOW FOLDS AFFECT MOVING THROUGH TRANSITIONAL SPACES. THE SITE MODEL WAS TO BE MADE OUT OF THREE 18 BY 24 SHEETS OF MUSEUM BOARD, AND THE MODEL OUT OF THREE 12 BY 12 SHEETS OF MUSEUM BOARD. ADDITIONALLY , WE WERE TO EXPERIMENT WITH LIGHT IN OUR MODEL IF IT STREANTHENED OUR IDEAS. IN MY MODEL THE LIGHT HELPS TO PORTRAY TRANSITION ALONG WITH THE ELEVATION CHANGES. FINNALY, WE WERE TO DRAW A RENDERED AXONOMETRIC OF OUR MODEL.

THE FINAL PROJECT WAS TO CREATE ONE OF SIX PAVILIONS TO BE PLACED IN THE NEWARK RIVERFRONT PARK. IN GROUPS OF FOUR TO SIX WE WERE TO EACH CREATE A SEPERATE PAVILION BUT ALSO SHARE A COMMON THEME. MY GROUP, CURRENT, DESINED A CAFE, A BIKE RENTAL SHOP, AN ART GALLERY, AND I DESIGNED A BOATHOUSE. CURRENT IS A WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM THAT CLEANS AND REDISTRIBUTES POLLUTED WATER FROM THE PASSAIC RIVER, CREATING AND ENHANCING PROGRAMS ALONG THE WAY. AS A PART OF THIS SYSTEM, DEEP EDGE NOT ONLY ACTS AS A BOATHOUSE, BUT ALSO USES THE TIDES AS A PART OF ITS FACADE, CHANNELING THE WATER THROUGH THE STRUCTURE INTO A PUBLIC COURTYARD AND EVENTUALLY BACK INTO NEWARK. DEEP EDGE IS A TRANSITIONAL SPACE THAT OPENS THE WATERFRONT TO THE PUBLIC WHILE BRINGING WATER BACK TO THE PUBLIC.
