LOOKBOOK FIBRE MUSE COLLECTION WINTER 2018

JOURNEY HOME Kia ora Fibre Muses. This issue marks the beginning of a new round of the Fibre Muse Quarterly. In this new rendition, I've made some changes. First, each issue will now feature all four Fibre Muses so that everyone can enjoy them, with one pattern per Muse. I've done away with the articles and featurettes to keep everything focused on the designs and the stories with them. The most significant change to the quarterlies is the re-integration of my personal touch as a designer. During my first two years of designing, I explored the integration of knitting with my cultural heritage, specifically the Maori culture. I used design as a way to connect and learn more about my roots that I didn't have a chance to access growing up. During the past year of creating the first round of the Fibre Muse Quarterly, I veered away from that path, focusing on exploring the Fibre Muse Archetypes. But now that itch has been satisfied, and it's time for the next level: exploring the intersection of making with identity. Specifically, how and why I make and what role that plays in my journey of selfactualization. Over the past few months, I've been documenting this journey through words on social media and voice on my show, the Fibre Muse Podcast. Now I'm recontextualizing this documentation through knitting. This collection of patterns represent the beginning of the return to my roots. After some time away from home, it's the long trek back. That is why I've named this issue: Journey Home. Going forward, these collections are going to be much more personal and meaningful to me, which in turn I hope will resonate with you and inspire you to transform your yarn to manifest more Aroha: joy, healing, connection and creativity, in your lives, such as I have done.
