PLEASE SHOW ME HOW TO BUILD DYSTOPIA Architectural Thesis, 2015-2016
“Please show me how to build dystopia” aims to be a project of exploration of the “derivé” of contemporary cities towards a securocratic dystopia, using as a methodological framework the construction of an ecosystem of experimentation where to construct an speculative urban scenario where to deploy different devices from the militarization. The project is located within the Demilitarized Zone between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK). This demilitarized zone is a buffer area, a no man’s land of 4km of wide and 250km long, hermetically sealed through the military dominance of both armies and its devices for the territorial control. Paradoxically, this situation has turned the most heavily militarized area in the world into one of the biggest ecological heritages of the Korean peninsula. This project attempts to visualize the alternatives to an utopian scenario of a Korean reunification through dystopian fictions.
