Designed in the traditional style of a Balinese village, the unique Aman Resort in Ubud was chosen as the romantic honeymoon retreat in 2009 for Hollywood A-Lister Channing Tatum and wife Jenna Dewan. Such was their love for Bali and as a reminder of their experience, they headed out to get matching Indonesian tattoos which translate as ‘side by side’ in Balinese. Singer/songwriter Ashlee Simpson and her husband, Hunger Games star Evan Ross, son of the Supremes’ diva Diana, also chose Bali for their romantic getaway earlier this year. They headed straight for the St Regis Bali Resort in Nusa Dua after their fairytale wedding at Diana’s sprawling Connecticut home.

Bali and romance go hand-in-hand as it is also the favourite holiday retreat for former Baywatch and Knight Rider star David Hasselhoff and Welsh beauty Hayley Roberts. ‘The Hoff’ is a regular visitor and his favourite bay-watch is the secluded and exclusive three island constellation of Gili Meno found between Bali and Lombok. Here he scuba dives and swims in the sparkling coral waters and loves to eat at the popular Cuca Tapas Bar and Restaurant Jimbaran. Rumour has it that Bali will be the new home of David’s planned future resort, Hoff’s Hideaway. TVS Hayley and David

ali, that tiny Indonesian island surrounded by coral reefs just to our north, is an idyllic getaway. It’s a picture-perfect wedding paradise for some and a bachelor’s dream for romantic lovebirds. For others it’s a stunning honeymoon retreat, and for one popular singing babe it’s the place for a birthday celebration. Here are just a few of the reasons why celebrities keep flying in to Bali as a holiday retreat and romantic getaway.

Touted as the biggest celebrity wedding of 2013, Bali was the choice for former Miss Universe and model Jennifer Hawkins’ nuptials to Jake Wall. They chose the villa resort of Semara in the quiet Uluwatu region for their wedding, where some 60 family and friends watched them tie the knot amid 20,000 longstemmed roses. In 2012, actress Jen and Jake and model Jodi Gordon and her retired Roosters NRL star fiancée, Braith Anasta also chose Bali for their happy day, choosing the privacy of a secluded complex in Ubud for their nuptials. Such is their love for the island they returned this year to introduce their baby daughter, Aleeia, to the magic of Bali.

Louise and Blake

It seems that Aussie bachelors love Bali! Two lots of lovebirds from the TV series The Bachelor have chosen Bali as a romantic escape. The promise of fiery sunsets, infinity pools, gourmet delights and complete privacy in the tranquil luxury of the Karma Kandara Resort beckoned Tim Robards and his chosen love Anna Heinrich in December 2014. Coincidentally, within days, controversial bachelor Blake Garvey and Louise Pillidge flew in to Bali to celebrate his 32nd birthday in a private villa at the same resort. Complete with birthday messages in stone, hearts made from rose petals and romantic meals, love was certainly in the air at the Karma Kandara.

Where do you go to celebrate turning 35? Singer and recent Celebrity Apprentice contestant Sophie Monk spent her 35th birthday at the end Sophie of last year in Bali at the stunning five-star, cliff top resort of Karma Kandara situated on the Bukit Peninsula at the southern tip of the island. She and bestie, former 2Day FM colleague Oscar Gordon, spent two weeks of fun in the sun, sand and sea before returning to Australia just in time for Christmas.
