GREEN FUSION Riverfront and Dance School

01. URBAN REGENERATION LOCATION:

Pescara industrial area

FUNCTIONS:

Riverfront Park, House of Sport, Worker’s house, B&B

GOALS:

Requalification of a disused industrial site trought new attractive poles; Connection between the riverfront and the residential fabric.

THE RIVERFRONT The riverfront is defined by a grid system wich reflects the surrounding green landscape. A system of elevated paths crosses the area: it consists of long walkways and small high towers that hold greenhouses. On the ground there is the “Essences park�, crossed by a cycle path and equipped areas.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: The area is located in a strategic point: it is between Termini and Tiburtina station, close to the centre of Rome. Actualy there is no services and green area around it, and most of the buildings are abandoned.

THE NEW ARBOR The aim of the project is to renovate the city's tourist port by integrating some useful functions to the needs of tourists and citizens, through a series of volumes on several levels in which the various functions are collocated. ABOUT THE PROJECT: The area is located close to MAXII Museum and on the same site there will be the city of Science. The project use the sourraunding buildings as guidlines and it brings the nature of the outside inside of it to create a private green space. The project has commercial areas and residential flats with different dimentions: they are duplex.

L’ASSE PENDOLO Renovation of the neighborhood

ABOUT THE PROJECT The project gives more services and green areas to the neighborhood where is situated. The aim is to renovate this part of the area in Pescara, that actually is abandoned. The site is crossed by a street which is called “Asse Pendolo�, it is quite big because the area is near to the main commercial quarter. The project improves also the connections with the rest of the city through a bicycle lane.

Section A - A’

SUSTAINABLE ENERGIES The project is sustainable. In fact, on the roof it uses photovoltaic panels facing south and inclined 45 degrees. Also the enclosure contributes to energy savings: X-LAM PANELS. Low conductivity is ensured for the properties of wood, which is an optimal condition for hot seasons. But it also contributes to the protection of the environment thanks to the eco-compatibility of the material.

SUMMER The panels are closed to prevent the hot air from entering the building in order to minimize the need for air conditioning.

TOWER HOUSE Redesign the existing

GOAL:

Redeseign an old piezometric tower used as a private flat.

THE TOWER The piezometric tower was redesigned as a flat in the 90’s. The purpose of the project is to modify the tower by removing some problems related to ease of use, by following safety regulations and obtaining an energy-sustainable solution. The intervention consists in removing the unused cistern located on the roof, to create a spacious room to use as a study. Moreover, in the building there are stairwell-ladders to move from one floor to another which are unconfortable and they don’t allow privacy to the inhabitants. The solution is an external stairway, closed by sustainable opaque glass walls.

THE PROJECT The project is a Gallery Museum on a scaffolding system: on the ground there is the bicycle lane, while upstair there is a long walkway which cross all the gallery and it hosts the three pavillion:

CINEMA PAVILLION It is used for videoprojections. The wall are made with canes and sheep’s whool.

- CINEMA PAVILLION - ART PAVILLION - POETRY PAVILLION The last one has a an appendix that extends outside the tunnel. Each pavillion is composed with different materials that are all recyclable.

CHURCH OF S. ANTONIO ABATE AND OLD TOWN Restoration project

03. BUILD ON BUILT LOCATION:

Isola del Gran Sasso, Teramo

FUNCTIONS:

Multipurpose center, restoration of the facades of the historic town center.

GOALS:

Completion of a deconsecrated church; Redevelopment of the facades of houses after a strong earthquake.

THE PROJECT Isola del Gran Sasso is a small town in Abruzzo, Italy. After the strong earthquakes that took place in recent years, the historic center has been cordoned off and it is unusable. The purpose of the project is to restore the facades of houses, considering the past history of the place. The project achieves two types of restoration: - one which is the classical type: it is operated on ancient buildings, - the second one which is a modern type of restoration: it is operated on an abusive construction of the 50s.

LA BOTTEGA DEL GUSTO This building has become a cafè in the middle of the ancient city centre. The facades has been completely twisted, it is made with bricks and the windows are splayed.

S. ANTONIO ABATE CHURCH The project involves the redevelopment of the old archaeological site of the church with the construction of a multipurpose centre that will be used by all the citizens. This building has the goal of being a photographic and bibliographic archive to keep the memory of the town alive.

S. ANTONIO ABATE CHURCH At the ground floor level there are services and a series of bookstores to collect documents, in addition to an information point to address the users who want to use the service. An anti-seismic technique is used with HEB beams and steel pillars. The structure is covered with reinforced concrete panels with a design that recalls the regular blocks of limestone, a typical material of the Gran Sasso area.

FILL THE GAP A new project for G. D’Annunzio university

04. PROJECT OF PUBLIC SPACE LOCATION:

Pescara, G. D’Annunzio University

FUNCTIONS:

New activities connected with culture and recreation

GOALS:

Design an “entrance door” for the new university campus of Pescara; Break architectural barriers.

THE PROJECT "Fill the gap" expresses the project's idea, which brings together the University "D'Annunzio" with Viale Pindaro, up to Pineta D'annunziana, connecting public spaces for students and for residents. The "gap", that physically exsists, is the starting point for the urban intervention, replanning Viale Pindaro as a "Woonerf", then comprehending the area of the "Agip" petrol station, up to the exit of the University. The axes connect the Stadium, the University and the new "Mediateca" leads to the project. A light infrastructure is the connecting path for the buildings around: every architectonic barrier is broken. The main building serves the area with activities strictly connected with culture and recreation, to get everyone involved in the area. The ground floor is caracterized by a "free plan", which takes up the concept of our project. Through a huge stair is possible to get to the upper floors where there are an expo area and laboratories. The glass coverage communicates the concept through architectural fluidity.

[IN]VISIBILITY - EURIPIDES ORESTES A parasitic intervention

05. DESIGN PROJECT LOCATION:

Kunsthalle, Mainz, Germany

FUNCTION:

Pavillion

GOALS:

Reinterpreting a part of the Euripides comedy "Orestes" to design a theatrical scenography; Creation of a parasitic architecture by using only cardboard.

THE PROJECT The parasite intervention is focused on the figure of Apollo and is about his visibility - invisibility throughout the tragedy. Apollo is an important figure: he is the God who moves every character and the only one who makes decisions. My host (Kunsthalle) is like the Timeline of the story: I split the building in six parts, each one represents an important scene of the tragedy. Some wires made out of cardboard are twisted together to create a chain which connects the entire building. The characters are represented as fragments that derive from the moment of Creation.

Concept idea: The Kunsthalle is divided in six parts. The Tower of the builiding is exploded since Apollo’s intervent.

THE MATERIALS The accesses are highlighted by the sliding doors that are made of Corten, a material also used for the parapet. The floors are made of weatherproof Plywood, which is resistant to weathering. A wall separates the Relax area from the Tools Box Area, which is designed for Bikers who need tools to fix their bikes.
