Fraka Harmsen : Strategic Leadership


As Provost of California State University at Sacramento, California, Fraka Harmsen was active in the institution's Strategic Planning Council that was responsible for the creation of a University Strategic Plan. During her tenure, Fraka Harmsen aligned the college and other units' strategic plans with that of the university.


Fraka Harmsen's role was vital in accomplishing various achievements, including the establishment of the Institute for Water, Energy, Sustainability and Technology (iWEST) as a hub for the combination of policy and science to help address California's water, energy and sustainability issues.


Fraka Harmsen also worked with the National Institute on Science for Global Policy and the National Science Foundation (NSF) on an academic partnership for a model that demonstrated the impact of climate change.


Under Fraka Harmsen's leadership, the institution provided new academic programs to students such as the Master of Science in Finance and the Bachelor of Arts completion degree in Arts and Letters. Fraka Harmsen also helped develop a bachelor's degree in Nursing in collaboration with Sierra Community College.


To support research efforts, Fraka Harmsen established a Provost Research Incentive Fund Program that distributed thousands of dollars to aid faculty grant writing and other research endeavors.
