Auditions will take place on May 20 and 21 with representatives of professional theatre and production companies.

Do you understand the power of your breath and body as an actor? Work with professional movement coach Jana Tiff in her The Body Knows: Movement for Actors Workshop and learn how to use your breath and body more effectively.

Are Your Video Auditions Working for You? Work individually and as a group with professional award-winning actor and acting coach Kenneth Kay on producing a winning audition video.

Workshop Description: For a stage actor and for professional theatre

companies, nothing beats a live audition; however, video auditions are now part of doing business. If a company requests an audition video from you, are you prepared to submit the best video audition possible? Learn how to make a video that show you at your best. An audition of your choice will be video taped, and it will be played back for review and input.

Can you get through a dance callback successfully? Learn from professional dancer and choreographer Becky Timms. She'll share what to expect and how to get through a dance callback, even if you've danced for years or want to show you can move well. She'll also teach you the routine used at this year's dance callbacks.

Workshop Description: A workshop designed for everyone from the

beginner to advanced. It will consist of a warm-up and two audition sequences in contrasting styles of choreography. One will be the dance callback routine used in the dance callbacks. Through the process, there will be discussions about physical and mental preparation, basic dance skills, and the terminology every musical theatre performer should know. There will also be valuable answers to questions like "What should I wear?"; "Should I tell them I can't dance?"; "What are they looking for?"; and the ever-popular "If it's too difficult for me, can I leave?"

Requirements: People attending this workshop should have dance or

sports wear that provides adequate coverage and does not restrict movement. Footwear should be jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, or athletic shoes with good support. If you tap, bring your tap shoes.

Workshop Description: Your audition, headshot, and résumé are an

actor's most important tools. This workshop will examine methods of choice for the actor in certain audition situations, for example, auditioning for companies that know your work, those that don't know your work, and a combination of those that know and don't know your work, cold readings, scene studies, improvisational auditions, etc. This workshop will enhance your skills on self-evaluation, your casting potential, and the resources needed to sell yourself as an actor. Some goals of this workshop will be to teach actors to identify their strong characteristics, as well as, how to select the correct audition materials. We’ll discuss résumé formats, photograph options, audition dress and demeanor, cold readings, and the best way to follow up with directors and producers. You'll also be given simple "how-to" and "do-not" pointers that can make a difference between a catastrophe and a career.

Are your audition songs the best for your type and voice? Work individually and as a group with professional singing/voice coach Julia Truilo and learn if your choice of songs are the best for you at this stage of your career and how to better use your singing voice.

Dates and Times Offered: Saturday, May 19: Part of All-Day, Tailor-Made Group and One-on-One Coaching Workshops from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20:

Workshop Description: Singing actors all have the same problems,

no matter where they are working. Doing your best in this business means healthy and expressive singing, even in the most stressful situations. The class will begin with simple warm-up techniques to help prepare your body and voice for the job of auditioning. Getting work as a singer means not only preparing your instrument, but also understanding how your audition pieces show who you are and what you are capable of. Does your rep fit your voice, as well as your “type?� Are your music skills holding you back? How can you make solid singing part of your skills package, whether you have years of training or are just starting out?

Requirements: Please bring a variety of sample sheet music that is

clearly marked and be prepared to sing your audition piece or another piece of your choice. Only performers who bring legible sheet music in the correct key will be able to sing.

Ask-FPTA Q & A Lunches and Networking with Representatives from Participating Companies and Your Acting Colleagues Dates and Times Offered: Sunday, May 20: 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 21: 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Description: You get to select a regular lunch for non-vegetarians or a vegetarian lunch on your registration form, have opportunities to meet and network with other actors, and interact directly with company representatives. You can ask your own question/s of the company representatives and learn from questions from other actors. You'll learn so much in this relaxed, informal setting among actors and company representatives. Your participation in these Q & A lunches are highly recommended by the companies. Requirements: Register for either the Sunday, May 20 or Monday,

May 21 Ask-FPTA Q & A Lunch and make the applicable fee payment of $20. You also have the option of inviting a guest; however, there is a $20 fee per person.

Can you get through a dance callback successfully? Information on Coach Becky Timms

Becky Timms, director/choreographer/performer, has extensive professional experience on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and National Tours and has worked with some of professional theatres’ finest legendary directors and choreographers. She has worked with such legends asJerome Robbins, Harold Prince, Michael Bennet, Bob Fosse, Susan Stroman, and Trevor Nunn, to name a few. Becky has directed and choreographed more than 60 productions for professional equity theatres all over the country: La Jolla Playhouse, NJ Shakespeare, The Cort, and MTC, among others. In addition, she was the associate choreographer for the Tony Award winning show Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002. Becky brings years of experience as a dancer, choreographer, director, and performer to this year’s FPTA 2018 professional coaching team.

Jana Tift has taught the Alexander Technique and movement for actors for more than twenty years. A former member of the graduate acting faculty at Florida Atlantic University, she has shared the Technique in workshops and master classes throughout the U.S. and abroad, including LawrenceUniversity Conservatory, New World School of the Arts, Young Arts, Louisiana State University, Southeastern Theatre Conference and the International University Theatre Association. In addition, she has taught in the teacher training program for the Philadelphia School for the Alexander Technique. An award-winning director, Jana holds an MFA in Theatre from Florida State University. She is a member of Alexander Technique International, the Society of Directors and Choreographers, and teaches and coaches in South Florida.

Julia Davidson Truilo is a singer-actor and teacher with a wealth of experience in musical theater, opera, and cabaret music. For many years, she was the managing director at Seaside Music Theater, hiring talent for over 200 shows in markets as diverse as New York, Nashville, and Orlando. Ms. Truilo has more than 30 years experience as a professional performer and has served as a master teacher for both voice and audition technique all over the U.S. She currently serves as part of the management team for City Repertory Theatre in Palm Coast, an intimate black box theater specializing in new works and classic plays.

Are Your Video Auditions Working for You? Information on Coach Kenneth Kay

Kenneth Kay (AEA/SAG-AFTRA/MFA) is a producer, director, actor & teacher with forty years of professional theatre experience and 300+ stage productions to his credit. When not acting or directing, Mr. Kay is a teaching professional with the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s Professional Training Program and an Adjunct Professor with the Drama Department of Palm Beach Atlantic University. Of late, he has served as an Artist-in-Residence at BAK School of the Arts where he directed Spoon River Anthology. Other recent credits include directing a chilling new adaptation of The Scarlet Letter for PBA and playing featured roles in Frost/Nixon at the Maltz and in the pilot episode of HBO’s hit TV series, Ballers.

Michael Leeds is a director, writer, and choreographer: He's worked with such talented and legendary artists as Arthur Miller, Martin Scorsese, Liza Minnelli, Lynn Redgrave, Tyne Daly, Tommy Tune, Donna Murphy, Kate Burton, Stephen Schwartz, Kander & Ebb, and many others. He wrote and directed the B’way musical, Swinging On A Star that was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical. Off-B’way he directed and choreographed Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah – The Songs of Allan Sherman, starring Tovah Feldshuh & Mary Testa, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Best Director and Best Choreographer. Mr. Leeds has directed for Playwrights Horizons, the York Theatre, the Goodspeed Opera House and Paper Mill Playhouse among others. He is Associate Artistic Director at Island City Stage in Fort Lauderdale and has been awarded the Carbonell and Silver Palm Award. Michael teaches a weekly acting class in Delray Beach and Fort Lauderdale (www.LeedsWorkshop.com).
