FPS Australia Coil Famous Pacific Shipping (VIC) handled a contract for 28 containers of coil that were picked up from the wharf, delivered to their warehouse for unpacking overnight and then delivered loose to the customer the following morning.

A Message From The Chairman To all FPS Group Members, We have almost reached the end of another year and would like to wish everyone on behalf of the Advisory Board a very merry Christmas and prosperous new year.

Our ever changing industry continues to throw up new challenges which I believe makes us all stronger and more vigilant. We have seen many mergers by Shipping Lines however it shows how strong our group is as we will be reaching our 20 year anniversary next year. As others come and go, we have continued to be pioneers in the consolidation field and our individual companies have continued to grow and prosper. Now we are starting to see the world economy improving along with consumer confidence in all regions.

This upward trend will help the FPS Group Members generate more business and enter into new trade lanes.

Perhaps the one of the biggest changes we’ve seen this year was the introduction of One Monocle. We have benefitted from this new relationship and we have started to see the benefits in areas such as social media, we’re increasing our exposure and presence in the market. This not only holds the possibility of bringing business to members but this also helps FPS Group as whole to attract new members in regions we are targeting. Also, the efforts of One Monocle has in ways brought us closer together as a group, such as with the WhatsApp group chats and this quarterly newsletter you’re reading now.

I hope everyone can get on board and utilise the services of One Monocle in the coming year.

What is freight consolidation?

Major Challnges addressed by Freight Consolidators: ▶ Retailers are becoming more stringent and order sizes are getting small ▶ Lead times are shorter ▶ Compressed margins

• Retailers are becoming more stringent and order sizes are getting small In today’s day and age, online shopping is all the rage. And it is definitely here to stay. Add on Social Media and you begin to see the pressures faced by retailers as they compete on multiple channels for distributions. This has lead to the consumers having high expectations both in-store & online in terms to convenience & most important of all availability of product.

Suppliers are seeing an increase in their cost per pound with the retailers ordering smaller and smaller shipments.

Basically, a freight consolidation program involves the consolidation of multiple shipper’s freight (Multiple LTLs / parcels into truckloads). This helps lower costs tremendously & reduce the miles travelled. By building more volume destined to the same distribution center, transit time is also improved as compared to a traditional parcel / LTL service.

Freight Consolidation solves this problem, as in a freight consolidation program freight is not limited to full pallet consolidation. In a freight consolidation programme, parcel shipments can be combined easily, saving time & money. Some parcel carriers charge dimensional weight for ground packages, resulting in a big increase in costs. Adding these packages to a truck that is headed to a retailer distribution center (D.C) will help reduce costs for the shipper.

Winter 2017 • Lead Times are shorter There was a time when lead times were much longer, this was a time prior online shopping & E-Commerce. The longer lead time allowed shippers to build up pallets & consolidate it into one shipment to the D.C. But today, lead times are significantly shorter as the retailers are very reactive to changes in product demand.

Due to the shorter lead times, the ability for the shipper to consolidate their freight is very limited. But in a Freight Consolidation service, consolidation occurs across multiple shippers going to the D.C. This reduces the transit time significantly as the freight is travelling directly to the D.C instead of going through multiple LTLs / parcel sort stations.

• Compressed Margins While E-Commerce companies are feeling the wrath of consumer demands of free shipping to their margins. Retailers are looking to improve their profit margins by pressurising shippers to reduce their freight costs. As most shippers do not have a full truckload of shipments on a regular basis, this puts them in a constant battle with reducing their truckload rates even further.

When a shipper takes part in a freight consolidation programme, they are securing a rate below the LTL rates. As they are paying for a portion of the truckload based on the amount of space their freight occupies.

• Conclusion A Freight Consolidation programme can help release a lot of stress that the shippers are facing today with regards to shipping into big box retailers. This helps reduce damages to a product. It is also very good for the environment as it reduces the shipper’s carbon footprint.

Jodie Lally Celebrates A Decade FPS Melbourne’s Import Team Leader, Jodie Lally, celebrated a Famous Pacific Shipping Group milestone on the 27th November, 2017 when she celebrated 10 years of employment with FPS Melbourne.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary employment she was presented with a limited edition (1 of 100) frame of a football club she’s described as fanatical about. The gift presentation and anniversary party started in the FPS Melbourne boardroom and then moved to a lunch celebration that included the full FPS Melbourne staff.

Europe Cargo Stories STUFFING PLATES ON CUSTOMIZED SKID INTO CONTAINER 25TH SEPTEMBER, 2017 A shipment of steel plates (max. length 12,07 m. , max width 2,53 m) had to be stuffed into a 45’ HC. Due to the width of the plates we needed to stuff the plates diagonal to fit into the container.

To do this we had build a cusomized skid, on which we secured the plates.

The whole operation went very smooth.

Europe Cargo Stories LOADING OF A NEW PETROLEUM BARGE IN ANTWERP 4TH OCTOBER, 2017

Europe Cargo was the appointed agent for the HHL Venice, dealing with the whole preparation and follow up of the loading as follows: 1 x new petroleum barge “ VISTA” / Dims. : 71,650 x 12,314 x 6,900 m. / 419,097 mt unit weight / Destination : BANA ROADS BUOY 16 Direct transshipment by 2 x ship’s gear ex water onto deck mv HHL VENICE. This operation needed to be performed very

carefully as the barge needed to be turned to fit between the ship cranes. Supported on deck by 12 x heavy Lift Platforms, welded to the deck and tightened by 24 x T-stopper plates to the outsides Lashed and secured by 4 x lashings forward and 4 x lashing in the aft Welded by 6 x huge supporting stanchions, 3 x double welding seams

Europe Cargo Stories Europe Cargo & LCL Logistix Handle Shipment from Belgium to India 4th December 2017 Europe Cargo (members in Belgium) and LCL Logistix (members in India) have recently worked together to handle an OOG shipment.

The request was for ex-works from Herstal in Belgium to DAP Nagpur in India for one of Europe Cargo’s Belgian shippers. General Manager of the Forwarding Department at Europe Cargo, Sven Gillemot explains; “Whilst the cargo was not heavy, 3 of the 5 cases had OOG

dimensions. We picked up cargo with low-bed trailers in Herstal and stuffed the cargo in Antwerp on 2 x 40’FR containers. The shipment was booked with Hapag Lloyd from Antwerp to Nhava Sheva and on arrival, our PCN partner, LCL Logistix took over and delivered the cargo to the consignee in Nagpur. The distance from Nhava Sheva to Nagpur was around 900km.”

The cargo had details as follows: 2 Cases - each at 4.09 x 3.29 x 2.35m / 3tns 1 Case - 4.30 x 2.91 x 2.50m / 520kg 1 Case - 3.31 x 1.76 x .098m / 630kg 1 Case - 2.09 x 1.55 x 0.90m / 500kg The client was very happy with the final result with the operations and delivery running smoothly.

FPS FIJI: Famous Pacific Shipping Europe Cargo Stories East West Conference 2017

Famous Pacific Shipping FIJI, member of FPS Group hosted a quarterly FPS EAST WEST CONFERENCE attended by FPS Lautoka & Suva staff members with the theme IN IT TO WIN IT (Teamwork) on 24th July 2017.

FPS Lautoka & Suva staff members have gain insight shipping knowledge, increase awareness on how each departments’ function and brainstrom on ways to increase speed and productivities across each departments through team building activites.

The event was a real success, next conference is set to commence in October later this year.

Projects FPS Supports Water Supply & Sanitation Project Famous Pacific Shipping Lanka, Famous Pacific Shipping Group’s Sri Lanka location showed its project shipment capability recently with its support of pipe and parts transportation for the Jaffna-Kilinochchi Water Supply and Sanitation Project in the north of Sri Lanka.

The first break bulk shipment has just recently been completed and consisted of 1,300 CBM of DI Pipes that arrived in Colombo aboard the MV Zhe Hai V from Lianyungang, China. The project logistics team completed the operation within 72 hours.

In total the water supply and sanitation project will involve over 4000 CBM of DI Pipes and 50-75 TEU’s of container cargo that will include pipe fittings and other accessories for the project. For the container shipments as well as the break bulk pipe shipments, Projects FPS, the project logistics arm of Famous Pacific Shipping Lanka will be managing the entire local process to include customs clearance, port handling, transportation to the site 400 km north of Colombo, and stacking at the storage yard.

The Jaffna-Kilinochchi Water Supply & Sapnitation Project is expected to be completed within the 1st quarter of 2018 and Projects FPS will be involved for the full duration of the project.
