MARCH 2014

FROM DAVID’S PEN . . . Dear Friends -One of the blessings of being Presbyterian is the fact that we celebrate the various seasons of the church year. Currently, we are in the season of Epiphany, a time in which we celebrate God’s manifestation (or self-revelation) of himself to the world in Jesus Christ. During this season, which began on January 6th and will end on March 4th, we celebrate the revelation of God’s promise and purpose to the nations of the world, as the magi came from the East to worship the Christ child, and as God’s covenant of grace is extended to all who believe the good news of Christ Jesus. On March 5th, we will be entering Lent, the next season of the church year. The season of Lent is a time of prayer, fasting, and self-examination in preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of the Lord at Easter. It is a period of 40 days -- like the flood of Genesis, Jonah’s call to Ninevah, and Jesus’ time of testing in the wilderness -- that begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter. During these 40 days, we will have the opportunity, as did our biblical ancestors, to search our souls for God's presence in our lives as we face the daily trials that occur in our midst, and one way to do this is to engage in the practice of daily Bible study. There are many resources available on-line (visit and do a search for "Lent") and within our church's own library as well. I will be taking up the discipline of doing these daily readings and I would encourage you to do the same. What will happen, I pray, is that both you and I will: 1) become more mindful of the journey Christ had to make to the cross to atone for our sins, and 2) recognize the importance of spiritual disciplines. As we move from the season of Epiphany into Lent, may God's blessings be revealed to us on a daily basis as we seek to strengthen our spiritual disciplines of prayer, introspection, and biblical study as we journey with Christ each and every day of our lives. Yours in Christ's service --

David FROM JAINA’S PEN . . . Join us for FPC’s First Annual Seder Meal! APRIL 16, 5:30 P.M. in the Rodgers Center Wednesday Academy during Holy Week will be hosting a Seder meal, A Passover celebration! We may not be completely “Kosher,” but we promise it will be educational and fun too! It is a meal to be celebrated with the whole family - and there are lots of fun roles for the kids, so plan on bringing the whole family! If you have any Middle Eastern serving dishes you would be willing to let us borrow for the event, please get in touch with Carol Copeland or Jaina Anderson - and if you would like to be in on the planning and preparing, please let Carol or Jaina know! We’ve never led a Seder before, and could use any helpful tips or just plain HELP!!! This is a GREAT event to bring our friends who are looking for a church home! Please invite friends and call the church office to sign-up - we hope for a big crowd at this event!
