NCJTC is one of the largest training providers of child protection in the nation. We have been entrusted with some the nation’s most high profile training programs, including the AMBER Alert, Internet Crimes Against Children, Missing and Exploited Children and Sex Offender Re-entry training and technical assistance programs. As a criminal justice professional myself, I have had a long history in the area of child protection and am very passionate about keeping children and our communities safe. Since 2008, I have had the privilege to serve you as director of NCJTC. I am extremely proud of the training we have provided to professionals like you. Work in Indian Country began within the state of Wisconsin. To date, NCJTC has provided training and technical assistance to over 8,000 tribal officials and community members representing more than 200 tribes across the country.

6. Creating a Community Action Plan for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse Join other child-serving professionals to create a plan of action for preventing child sexual abuse of youth in your care. Learn the signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse, mandated reporter, and stakeholder responsibilities. Identify strengths and weaknesses of current prevention practices, and develop an action plan for your organization.

CHILD ABUSE & NEGLECT 1. Advanced Interviewing and Case Management for High-Risk Juveniles in Indian Country Examine victim, system, and societal perceptions which may pose barriers to a full and complete disclosure of abuse and exploitation. Learn interview models and uncover the circumstances where these models are most effective. Practice and apply interview and corroboration techniques by working through an interactive case study. 2. Child Abuse and Exploitation Investigations Gather up-to-date information for the investigation and prosecution of all types of child abuse cases. Learn the importance of using a multidisciplinary team approach when investigating and prosecuting child physical abuse, sexual abuse, and exploitation cases. Identify the preferred methods for interviewing children and suspects, evidence collection, case management and current legal issues. 3. Child Homicide Investigations Focuses on building relationships between the forensic pathologist, homicide investigator, and prosecutor in successfully investigating and prosecuting child homicide cases. Learn autopsy protocols, forensic essentials, and the criticality of

determining the cause and manner of death. Understand the unique aspects of investigating a child homicide including interviewing and interrogation, suspect pool development, and the role and importance of the prosecutor in gaining appropriate convictions. 4. Children’s Justice Summit Promote child advocacy and justice in Calumet, Outagamie, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago counties. Children in our community continue to face domestic violence, heroin addiction, internet crimes, trauma and abuse, and mental health issues. Connect with other child protection professionals from Northeast Wisconsin to understand the trauma, struggles, and life experiences children face locally and promote justice and healing. 5. Conducting Unexplained Child Death Investigations Learn how to utilize the evidence to support the proper conclusion in cases involving the death of a child. Gather best practices and tips for the investigation of unexplained child deaths. Discuss possible causes of death and the various investigative steps from first responders to evidence collection, witness and suspect interviews, and medical examination to support prosecution.

7. Crimes Against Children in Indian Country Conference Native American youth are impacted by unique and challenging threats that affect their physical and emotional development and wellbeing. Substance and physical abuse, families in crisis, and violence continue to threaten their communities. Gather resources, strengthen interagency relationships, and promote a multidisciplinary, multi-jurisdictional approach to serving Native young people. 8. Following the Evidence in Child Exploitation Cases Examine the need for evidence to corroborate a child’s statement when different information is gathered from various multidisciplinary team members. Learn how to evaluate evidentiary findings through crime scene images, interviews, and case studies. Understand the importance of working cooperatively with other disciplines for the benefit of child victims and the prosecution of offenders. 9. Child Sex Trafficking Forensic Interview Training Develop the skills and techniques to conduct developmentally appropriate forensic interviews with victims of child sex trafficking. Learn the differences between forensic interviews of minor victims and those of other victim populations. Review victim-centered interview methodology with special emphasis given to understanding the factors contributing to child sex trafficking victimization and the impact on development and effects of trauma.

11. Child Sex Trafficking: From Suspicion to Disclosure Learn techniques and strategies to enhance the likelihood of obtaining information from possible victims of child sex trafficking. Recognize the importance of domestic trafficking of children in tribal communities and acquire responses to prevent, interdict, and prosecute those who seek to exploit Native children. 17. Developing a Community Response for High Risk Victims of Child Sex Trafficking and Exploitation Construct a multidisciplinary response to high-risk victim cases. Quantify the problem of sex trafficking locally. Define the high-risk victim and the correlation and commonalities between the chronic runaway, repeat victims of sexual abuse, and the child victimized through sex trafficking. Learn effective victim interview techniques and a 5-point strategy to combat the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC). 18. Interrogation Techniques for Child Sex Trafficking and Exploitation Investigations Learn advanced interview and interrogation techniques to be used in child exploitation cases. Discuss interview and interrogation strategies. Identify the cultural and legal issues investigators must consider during interview and interrogation. A Pathway to Wellness: Working at the Intersection of Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Explore the connection between domestic violence and substance abuse, common cause and effect myths about domestic violence, the impact on families, and the risks to drug-endangered children.
