Meet Eddie and Marie Colón

March Upcoming Events

Through a friend, Eddie and Marie received an informational packet about the Fountains. Soon after Eddie placed his deposit, the Colóns moved in on June 7, 2013. They love living at the Fountains, and are both very thankful to be here! Marie was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky where her family owned a meat packing company and a farm. After high school graduation, she moved to Louisville, Kentucky where she attended medical technology school. Her working career in Louisville included jobs with two local physicians. When Eddie met Marie, she was working at Louisville Baptist Hospital. Eddie’s immediate family was from Barcelona, Spain and first settled in the Spanish section of Manhattan, New York. Never owning a car, the family strictly traveled by mass transit. Eddie’s father worked as a carpenter, in the WPA and participated in the construction of LaGuardia Airport. As a child, Eddie developed a love for airplanes and flying, spending many hours assembling model airplanes. He cherishes the memories of he and his dad riding the subway to Floyd Bennett Field, where they marveled at the planes in the air shows. Interestingly, Eddie saw the Hindenburg fly by as it was on its way to Lakehurst, NJ. He vividly remembers the radio announcement of the Hindenburg crash in May, 1937. After a year of dating, Eddie and Marie were married in 1970 and had three children. Their home in Louisville was close to a golf course and also near Bowman Field, where Eddie viewed the airplanes arriving and departing. For 34 years, Eddie worked as a staff photographer for the Louisville Courier-Journal newspaper. He had the privilege of photographing Vice-President Alben Barkley, Presidents Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy. He also finally had a chance to fly a plane! However, after realizing that flying was a very expensive hobby, he made the decision to just enjoy watching planes from the ground. Marie’s hobbies have included knitting sweaters, needlepoint, golf, fishing and attending theatre productions. After retirement, they lived on Sanibel Island, Florida, where they built a home. After several health issues arose, a decision was made to move closer to family. Now, here at the Fountains, they both say that the facility, the staff and the culinary services are superb and rise above any others in this area.

Meet Steve Crow Steve first learned about the Fountains of Franklin through a friend and soon applied for the Property Manager position. Steve’s past maintenance experience made him a perfect fit, and he believes that he has found his final destination for his career. He grew up on a farm in Dickson, Tennessee, and after high school graduation, joined the Air Force, based in Georgia. Serving in the Vietnam War, he flew combat missions. After the war, Steve decided to reside in North Carolina, where he enjoyed the beauty of the mountains. Soon, he started his own custom cabinet and furniture business, which he operated for 22 years. In 2000, while doing some custom cabinetry work for an Assisted Living Facility, he was offered the job of Maintenance Manager at the facility. He quickly fell in love with the work and the people. During his childhood, Steve’s parents exposed him to many genres of music. His parents were Big Band enthusiasts, and it was common to find them “cutting the rug” dancing the Jitter Bug! There was much joy and happiness in the home, and music was a huge influence. In high school, Steve played the drums in a rock band. In 2000, he pursued his music with the Fairhaven Gospel Quartet and later with the Bat Caves Boys Bluegrass Band, playing the bass fiddle. He worked during the week as a Maintenance Manager and then toured on the weekends with his music group along with his wife, Christine, by his side. After receiving the news of his mother’s death, Steve and his family moved back to Dickson to take care of his 84 year old father. Steve is thankful to be “home” and loves life, loves working on his farm, and just wants to live the rest of his life in peace. He states that working at the Fountains is the best job he has ever had. It’s the first job where he is able to use all of his talents and skills, from maintenance to music to imagination and humor. He quipped, “Now, if I can just get Sue to stop dressing me up in women’s clothing!”

Staying busy at The Fountains!
