In 2020, the Passion Play will be performed for the 42nd time, maintaining the tradition of this unique world famous event. The history of the Oberammergau Passion Play begins in 1633. After endless death and hardship at the hands of the Thirty Years' War and the bubonic plague, the surviving population of Oberammergau vowed that they would perform the "play of the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years if they were spared from extinction. At Whitsun in 1634, they kept their promise for the first time and so began the history of the Oberammergau Passion Play which demonstrates the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ. As early as the middle of the 18th-century spectators came to Oberammergau from all over Germany, attracted by the great power and mystique of the play. The villagers have kept their vow ever since and their faith and commitment has been recognised and admired around the world and is regarded as one of the most important passion plays. The village at the edge of the Bavarian Alps expects approximately 450,000 visitors for the passion play, over half of which will be international guests, during the 102 planned performances.

Day 3 - Oberammergau – Dinkelsbühl – Rothenburg ob der Tauber Today journey to Rothenburg ob der Tauber via Dinkelsbühl. Rothenburg is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Romantic Germany. Enjoy a tour of this lovely medieval town concluding with a snow ball tasting, a pastry considered the signature dish of Rothenburg.
Day 4 - Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Nuremberg Today continue to Nuremberg with the remainder of the day to enjoy at your leisure.
Day 5 - Nuremberg During today’s tour of Nuremberg visit the old part of the city, where you will find most tourist attractions. Day 4 - Oberammergau – Linz In the afternoon we cross the Austrian border to the city of Linz, a picturesque town on the banks of the Danube River where we enjoy a walking city tour.
Day 5 - Linz – Dürstein – Vienna After breakfast enjoy a short stop at the village of Dürnstein, nestled in the heart of the magnificent Wachau Valley. The charming town of Dürnstein offers a unique combination of breath-taking scenery and traditional architecture. It was in the Kuenringer Castle, whose ruins still overlook Dürnstein, that the English King Richard Lionheart was held prisoner. Then on to Vienna, the magnificent capital of Austria.
Day 6 - Vienna Today a sightseeing tour of Vienna. Passing the Opera House, Hofburg Palace, Heroes Gate, Parliament, the Council and more. In the afternoon explore Vienna further at your leisure.
Day 7 - Vienna – Lake District- Salzburg In the morning continue to the Lake District and ascend to Mount Zwölferhorn by cable car to enjoy wonderful views over the Lake Wolfgang. Next we continue to the city of Salzburg, where the genius composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. Here we enjoy a sightseeing tour with examples of breath-taking Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque artistry. Our visit also includes the world famous Mirabell Gardens and we see the house where Mozart grew up.

Day 8 - Salzburg Salzburg is the fourth largest city in Austria. The city offers the perfect combination of a picturesque mountain setting and a beautifully preserved old town. The historic centre is dominated by many church spires, medieval fortresses and the magnificent Hohensalzburg Fortress. The spirit of Mozart still permeates the city.
