Join Joe Studman, a Local History Guide and Speaker, and find out more about a discovery which formed the first museum in the borough, the Woolly Mammoth bone, now on display in the Enfield Museum, Dugdale Centre, Enfield Town.

Join the Chair of the Enfield Society, Dave Cockle for July’s Lunchtime Taster Talk. Investigate the first railway through the borough, which was part of an ambitious scheme by the Northern & Eastern Railway planned to link London to York and Great Yarmouth. This illustrated talk will show the many changes over the years and the social impact the coming of the railway had on the communities it served.

IN FOCUS: Lady Valerie Meux’s Ancient Egyptian Collection at Theobald’s House- Ancient Egyptian Shabtis TUESDAY 8 MAY Presented by Stacey Anne Bagdi, Egyptologist and Research, Exhibitions and Museum Shop Officer for Enfield Museums Service. This taster talk will give an introduction into Lady Valerie Meux, a previous owner of Theobald’s House in the early 19th century, and her famous Ancient Egyptian collection that once resided at the house. IN FOCUS: Apples & Pears The Edmonton Green Market Painting TUESDAY 12 JUNE Joe Studman returns with this fun, interesting story of the Costard. A Costard is a large cooking apple but the term came to mean a street vendor. Come and hear about their first appearance in Edmonton and how it took 30 years of trading before they were legalised. 50

IN FOCUS: Boys and Girls come out to Play Chase Farm School tapestry and cup remnant TUESDAY 14 AUGUST Join Joe Studman for August’s lunchtime talk. This is the story about how orphaned and deserted children were cared for in the late Victorian Enfield. Come and discover the history of Chase Farm School and see the items on display. IN FOCUS: When the Spurs came marching home - Tottenham’s Cup Winning Parade 1962 TUESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER Join Graham Frost, a Local Studies Researcher, to focus on Tottenham Hotspur’s F.A.Cup success in 1962. It will highlight one of the items in the Local Studies Archive, the Distinguished Visitors Book from Edmonton Town Hall, signed by the Spurs players and coaching staff during the victory parade. This item is usually not on display so it will be a rare opportunity to see it.
