BANANA BREAD MUFFINS WITH CHOCOLATE CHIPS
Do you want to be healthy, but you want to eat chocolate too? Same! Here is a muffin recipe, with a treat of chocolate chips!
Ingredients: 2 ripe bananas (about 1 ¼ cups) mashed with a fork 1/3 cup vegetable oil (or butter melted) 1/2 cup packed brown sugar (or white sugar) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) 1 large egg, beaten 1 teaspoon baking soda ¼ teaspoon salt 1 ½ cups all purpose flour 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line muffin pan with paper liners. In a medium size bowl the bananas and mash until smooth. Add in the oil (or butter), sugar, vanilla, and egg, and stir until well combined.
In a separate bowl stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the banana mixture along with the chocolate chips and stir just until combined. Do not over mix.
Fill the muffin cups about 3/4 full. Top with additional chocolate chips if desired. Bake for 15 -18 minutes or until muffin top is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely before serving.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In a medium bowl stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter or shortening until crumbly consistency is achieved. Add the milk all at once and stir with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together. Turn out dough on a lightly-floured surface and fold the dough over four folds only. Next pin or press out the dough into an approximate 9x12-inch rectangle. Brush the dough with the melted butter. Stir together the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle evenly over the surface of the dough. Starting at one of the long sides, roll the dough into a cylinder. Score and then cut the cylinder into 8 to10 equal pieces. Next transfer to a parchment lined sheet pan. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown. Whisk together the powdered sugar and milk and drizzle the icing over the biscuits.

Girls Soccer Cross Country Send-off to state meet Winter sports have started register today!

FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP
The Fort Cross Country team has made it to the State Championships! After doing great in District, this cross country team has made it far. They had 13 people sent to the state championships, and they did great! We interviewed some of the athletes on their team; Emma Cortez, Shelby Willett, And Dylan Brooks. Me (Isaac) and Paul interviewed, and we got the nice picture from their team. They are very proud of what they did.
“Competing in state, it’s a huge accomplishment.”
There are a few very special things that happened. The girls team got 4th! The top 4 get a trophy in state, and get to stand on the podium! The Athlete of the week (according to the Colombian) is Dani Buttrell, who goes to VSAA, but competes with Fort for athletics. Her award was given at the State Meet by one of the Sports Writers; Micah Rice.
“The boys X-Country hasn’t had this many people go to state since 1966, so this is a huge accomplishment for us.”
The X-Country team worked really hard this season, so if you see one of them in the hall, make sure to give one of them a HIgh Five!
Swimming Recap
The Trapper times got a personal statement from the swimming coach Sarah Dunn!
We had a good state meet. We tapered last week for districts in order to qualify for state. Tapering is where your workouts get significantly easier so your body is more rested and recovered without losing any aerobic endurance & speed you’ve built over the season. Swimmers taper before a big meet to go faster times. We needed to taper for districts in order to improve our times to make state and our taper for districts was right on! Everyone went at least 1 best time, if not more, and everyone placed well. It’s hard to carry that taper into a second week like we did for state, especially if you race longer events, but everyone sprinted well at state. Our 200 free relay dropped 3 seconds overall! That’s considered a sprint because each person swims a 50 freestyle and each relay member went a season best time at state. It was exciting!
I’m really proud of our Fort swimmers overall this season. We had a great group- all levels. Our first year swimmers (Keegan Houlten (Fr.), Julieanna Raines (Fr.), Alecia Kitchen (Fr.), Brooklyn Costanza (So.), Thalya Naone (So.), Hannah Coffey (Fr.), Molly Pendleton (So.), Nadia Phelps (Fr.)) made incredible improvements. We took 6 swimmers to districts: all of our 2nd year swimmers (Grace Peterson (Jr.), Karis Zumpano (Jr.), Quinn Perea (So.), Rebekah Cook (So.)) and three 1st year swimmers Nadia Phelps, Thalya Naone & Hannah Coffey. We had 4 swimmers go to state: Nadia Phelps (Fr.), Hannah Coffey (Fr.), Quinn Perea (So.) & Karis Zumpano (Jr.). Nadia qualified by placing in the top 5 in the 500 free at districts and received a wild card for the 200 free. Our relay was allocated by wild card as well.
Girls Soccer Recap
According to coach David Schaefer, the FV Girls Soccer Team made some major accomplishments this season! Our record was 4-10, including a 1-0 win over King’s Way Christian in our first game. We were competitive in every game we played. We scored 19 goals altogether this year! We were led by a strong group of seniors, including Shirley Diaz Ramirez, Kassie Dorantes, Lizandra Hernandez, Aylin Mijares and Vanessa Villa. They will be greatly missed next year, but we are returning a big group of strong players. We can’t wait to get back on the field next year!
