Happy New Year from far west Texas!
2019 came in cold, frosty, and foggy for folks west of the Pecos River. High temps for the first day of the new year hovered between ice-cold and wintry. However, the chilly weather didn't stop this group of hearty hikers from taking on the First Day Hike over at Davis Mountains State Park! The First Day Hike led by Ranger Ty saw the intrepid adventurers ascend to the Limpia Canyon Overlook, the highest point within the State Park's boundaries. Photos courtesy of Davis Mountains S.P. There's a new face in town... ...and it's a pretty famous one. Smokey Bear is back in town helping locals and visitors alike keep a mindful outlook on fire danger around Fort Davis. Smokey can be seen at various places around and outside of town, so keep your eyes peeled! Oh - and don't forget...
only YOU can prevent wildfires!
75th Annual Stock Show The Big Bend Livestock Show Association held their 75th annual gathering on January 1012,  2019. Congratulations to all of the Jeff Davis, Brewster, and Presidio County students and parents for participating in this year's stock show. There's a whole lot of hard work, effort, time, and love that goes into the projects - and it shows!
Brr! The cold temps have brought on a lot of frost filled mornings and days here in the high desert. Local photographers took advantage of these conditions, shooting pretty shots with the conditions the season brought. Desert plants in winter, Dawn Healey. Snow falling, Fort Davis Chamber photo.
